Mesut Ozil out of Liverpool game with knee injury

Arsenal will be without Mesut Ozil for Saturday’s trip to Anfield after the German complained of a knee injury.

It’s a blow for the Gunners as they look to get something from a game which is even more important after Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Brighton.

The news of his absence from the squad was leaked this evening via Twitter, and then confirmed by the BBC’s David Ornstein.

It’s a situation that just adds to the ongoing situation with Ozil whose season has been patchy, and his relationship with Unai Emery is well and truly under the spotlight.

Questions will be raised about his future once more, and rumours of a January move will intensify over the coming weeks.

Whatever your view of Ozil or Emery, there’s no escaping this is an unhealthy situation for Arsenal as a club, and something needs to be sorted sooner rather than later as it dominates the news cycle far more than it should.

Let’s hope we have enough tomorrow in the squad to get something from the game.

Not an ideal situation we are getting ourselves into. We had the Wenger in vs the Wenger out. Now it’ll be Ozil vs Emery. So much for a fresh start.

Adrian

If it really comes to Emry vs Ozil then we might have divided fanbase but Management and Board will definitely support Emry. Ozil is great player on his day but he is no Messi or even Neymar. And I sadly see him leaving Arsenal coming summer.

I'm 14 again

For the record, I wouldn’t touch Neymar. He’s a deep, underwater diver not a footballer. Cheers!

Bob

Neymar is a prat but he’s absolutely class on his day. He is miles above Ozil as a player even if I dislike him

Martin

When Ozil was in his prime and certainly in the early years with us he was far better than Neymar will ever be.

Assshavin

Neymar is on a completely different planet than Ozil. “even Neymar” pff..

Too Drunk To Be Offside

Where is the need for division. Unai all the way.

truj

Move on Emery in january!

IamaGoober

I’m going to lean on the side of I do believe this injury to be real and that’s the reason why he isn’t taking him to Anfield. Because even if Emery hates Ozil, after that awful performance in the second half against Brighton. Where we literally were unable to create a single effort on target. I cannot see a situation where Emery is stupid enough to not at least bring Ozil as an option when we are so light of creative quality in midfield.

Bobby

I’m assuming it’s satir, but anyhow he was taken off after the first half ?

Yankee Gooner

No, it just takes reading comprehension: Arsenal were dire in the second half after Özil came off, so Emery would be foolish not to at least have him on the bench for Liverpool.

Bobby

“Because even if Emery hates Ozil, after that awful performance in the second half against Brighton.” I don’t want to ridicule you, but grammar says he points to Ozil here?

#EmeryOutAlsoOzilAlsoMe

Ozil vs Emery? So much for a fresh start? Behaaaaave! Who in their right mind is thinking Emery out because he’s not playing Ozil?!

I’ve been to a fair few games this year and the atmosphere is the best it’s been for at least 5 years. Get on board m8!

Deano

I think it is obvious, just doesn’t fit into his plans. I love the guy defended him all ends ups and always will.

That said I will back the boss for now, hurts but I will because we had to change we were going down hill and I think he is doing a good job steadying the ship and he still has a huge job to do!

Greg

Why have you and do you defend him all ends up? Is he beyond reproach?

Mental to ever give him that deal, if it was ever to be that value it had to be incentive based

Deano

I’ll be polite go away Greg.

He has done what he has always done throughout his career, he is and always will be a unique player. Get over yourself!!

Greg

Don’t need to be polite deano love, just answer the question

Deano

I did sorry…

Greg

Why is he beyond reproach ?

Henrypiresberg

He will only and he can only steady the ship to mid league level he can’t take the team to up waters and sail forward. What Wenger achieved in his worst years that is the best Unai can achieve in his best years. Save this comment for after 2 years reference.

Martin

Last season we lost 13 matches. Are you saying that we will lose more than 10 in the second half of the season? I loved Wenger but let’s dace the facts he stayed too long and there is now a new spirit at the club. We are challenging for a top4 finish which never looked likely last season.

clins

i dont believ at his ozil vs emery thing. its clearly ozil himself the problem ‘he doesnt want to change but he doesnt want to leave arsenal’ that statement itself is so contradictory. if he wants to stay then he should change, this is a player who is being paid one of the highest wage in premier league. the heck like he doesnt want to change , its his job to play how his manager wants him to play. if that is the case then he should leave to turkey or china or something

Gunnery

Ozil needs and wants the team built around him. A team setup for Ozil doesn’t really work unless you have a star talent who produces and takes charge of games. Problem with Ozil is that he couldn’t find a way to justify his time on the pitch. He can’t create consistently as it requires other players to be at a high level too, especially finishing. He produces alot of chances but are they just shots or shots in prime? He is a player that allows other star players to shine. He isn’t really a star player. For all his intelligence… Read more »

After back injury, now it’s knee injury….?? Like seriously…..
next will be tooth ache, diarrhea, acne. What is wrong between Unai n ozil??

Goonerooni 48

Life requires a little give and take. Opposite views can be reconciled gradually if there is a will to do so. Get well soon Mesut. Let us hope that you and Unai are able to sort out your differences and work together harmoniously for the benefit of the team.

my name is bob

Here’s my view on the Ozil-Emery relationship. At PSG, Emery had to deal with maybe the most difficult personality to manage in world football with Neymar. Emery totally lost control because Neymar was the face of PSG, and Neymar knew that the chairman of PSG would do whatever it took to keep Neymar there, leaving Emery with essentially no say in anything. I think Emery doesn’t want to replicate that here at Arsenal. Ozil is the star of Arsenal (along with auba), but Emery has reminded Ozil who is actually in charge and that Ozil cannot simply pick himself in… Read more »

Ryan05

In my mind, there is a tremendous difference between Neymar in that situation at PSG, and Ozil here. Ozil is NOT the face of the club right now, nor is he the star. He’s merely the highest paid player who was unwisely and rashly given a big contract in response to Sanchez being sold in order to save face. He doens’t seem to fit into the team anymore, and frankly, I’m not sure they don’t play better without him. I’m in the sell/loan him camp as soon as possible.

MrT

You either like it not Ozil is the face and the only star player we have at AFC at this time & moment. Go any where in the world and ask who plays for Arsenal first person they will say is Mesut Ozil, just like Barcelona – Messi Juventus – Ronaldo PSG – Neymar Man U – Pogba etc etc. We could argue on his performance and so on but don’t talk rubbish about he ain’t a star player. He has won more than anyone in that AFC squad put together including Mr Emery himself. Letting Ozil leave is it… Read more »

loose_cannon

Wow MrT, tell us how you really feel 😉

Mastermind

I think that how we played against Brighton in the second half shows just how we are without Ozil and the game against Burnley showed how we are with him in the team and the difference is quite clear.
I believe Ozil still has a role to play at Arsenal and I back Emery to work that out.

Don't boo Paul Davis

It was 1-1 at ht, 1-1 at full time. Ozil was okay, nothing more.

Espen

I remember how we played against Spurs some weeks ago without özil in the team. We won 4-2 without özil, but I don’t see it as proof for or against. Özil went missing for a lot of games last season as well, either on the pitch or out sick or injured. With the back three it looked like we were turning a corner defensively, our xG against was improving, but we have lost too many players to injury in the last month. It’s affecting the balance of the team, squad rotation and our defensiv and attacking play. Against Brighton our… Read more »

loose_cannon

I think if you’re using Leicester and Burnley at home and, lets be honest, an average first half against Brighton to say we need Ozil, then you might be grasping at straws! He’s supremely talented but we’ve played well without him this season and we will again.

Goonerink

Trouble is his contract and possibly Arsene wenger makes/made ozil believe he is.

Rich

There’s only 1 reason Ozil isn’t playing, and that because since the ink dried on his new deal he’s been absolutely garbage, and 1 world class performance and the odd moment of genius doesn’t make up for him being completely shit and disinterested the rest of the time.
There’s no need for Emery to fall out with Ozil, Ozil doesn’t come across as a difficult dressing room character, Ozil simply isn’t playing because he doesn’t deserve a spot.

Questions do need to be asked though, if Ozil is calling “Injury” when asked to sit on the bench.

Michael Ginty

What has Ozil won at arsenal? And Ramsey? Let’s stop settling for second best

Andy

I refer the honourable gentleman to the Football Assosiation Final 2017.

Martin

3 FA Cups isn’t too bad.

Red-Sky

Speculation.
How about the fact that his performances haven’t really been that great, and his coach is simply demanding more from him.

clins

i think emery did his part almost exactly how it should have been. emery always respected ozil and all the senior players we had in the team. he might not have liked many of them but he never came in and kicked out players regardless he liked them or not. how he dealt with petr cech should be the reference point here. everyone knew due to age and simply the way emery wants his side to play leno would eventually usurp cech. but emery always respected cech and gave him chance after chance. and only after leno came in performed… Read more »

Bob

Not sure it’s the same situation at all. Ozil isn’t the star of this team, if anyone is it is Aubameyang right now and emery has started him as much as possible. Difference between auba and Ozil is one of them seems to follow what emery wants. Auba has played all across the front three and at times he’s been making last ditch tackles in our defensive third to help out his fullback. If auba can do that why can’t ozil?

Gunnery

Also different positions. Neymar can actually play out wide or up front where the need to be defensively focused can be compensated for by the formation. Playing as a 10 you rally need to either get goals and assists every game or be really hard working.

The other main difference is that neymar pace and dribbling means he can work in any team, with or without quality players with pace around him. Ozil needs quality around him which we just don’t have. And it won’t be changed overnight

Dudza guunnneerr

He emery just need to play right combinations take out Guendouzi he destabilizes the team coz he is everywhere leaving gaps and you expect ozil to recover from front to end

Martin

Have you forgotten that Emery won a treble and double in the 2 years he was at PSG

Rob67

It is getting embarrassing. Simply that. The club have to action this in January. And that means moving Ozil on, temporarily – or permanently. We can’t have this nonsense every week – whoever is the opposition.

Alex

The nonsense is not created by the player.

baz00r

I believe it is. Faking injuries and throwing tantrums.

Bob

Really because it’s a pattern that started before emery came in. The common denominator here is Ozil, not emery

Tim

Yep! When Wenger let Ozil get away with picking and choosing the away games he’d play I knew under a different manager he’d be in trouble.

Since he signed the contract he’s been utter shite, save for one or two moments of genius and the Leicester game. But he’s on Hazard money and when you look what players like that do for their clubs week in week out you can’t help but feel Emery is probably in the right here.

Rich

Ozil doesn’t seem to want to leave London or his £300,000 p/w contract, but he doesn’t seem to want to fight for his career either. He’s finished as a player, it’s been clear for a very long time, unfortunately at this point I genuinely don’t think we could give him away, so we’re likely stuck with a 2.5yr £40,000,000 problem. It’s not a healthy situation, unfortunately the Ozil fan boys are backing Ozil over Emery. Ozil might be our most creative player…. but he’s also a huge liability who lacks the hunger and resilience to bounce back from this, the… Read more »

Mesut O'Neill

China would definitely take him, probably with higher wages as well!!

MrT

Why should he fight for his career RICH ? he has won more silver wear than any player in that AFC squad put together including Mr Emery.
Get the right ‘ Tactical ‘ system as the coach says and watch the beauty of Ozil in the pitch. SIMPLE

Rich

“Why should he fight for his career?”

Well….. In case you haven’t noticed? Things aren’t going very well for him right now, and his talent alone won’t get him through this.
He’s been given chances, he’s been given the captaincy, and his terrible form runs back as far as last February, and his inconsistency has been running for 3 seasons.
he’s finished, he lacks hunger+passion, and the only reason he’s here is to pick up his wage packet, and because he likes living in London

Don't boo Paul Davis

Who cares if Ozil has won more than Emery? On that logic we should make Ozil the f-ing manager then, just because he has won the world cup! When Wenger took over I backed him over the stars of the day who he didn’t quite fancy for his system, like Ian Wright for instance (more of an Arsenal legend than Ozil incidentally). You do this not because you hate one or another, just that manager’s have their own preferences and style.

MrT

Mr Wenger did not drop Ian Wright on his first 6 months in the job… or Merson, Tony Adams etc etc. He won trophies with them. Wenger didn’t have a big EGO at the beginning as Mr Emery has.

Bob

We’ve been saying this for almost 6 years now

Spinogunner

Feels weird that Arsenal is changing so much.
So many players gone from the past (rightfully)
But this whole Ozil and Ramsey thing is wrong.
They love arsenal and both have been good for the club.. Freezing them out like this is wrong.
Wish Emery would find a way to work with them. 🙁

Bob

I have to agree with this. I know many are praising Emery for his approach to freezing out these two guys, and I can understand why, but I can’t help but feel that’s fundamentally bad management – we have two assets that are being wasted and it’s the managers job to make sure that doesn’t happen…

SharpasFc

If Emery plays players just because the fans want him to and not because they fit into the way he wants to play, how does that work out in the long term?

Bob

There’s no suggestion that emery chose to freeze out Ramsey and he’s been using him off the bench and keeping him in the squad, nothing like his treatment of Ozil. Ramsey’s contract offer was withdrawn when Gazidis handed over the keys to Sanhelli and I suspect that has more to it than Emery suddenly deciding he doesn’t want Ramsey at the club. Ozils situation seems totally different to Ramsey.

Michael Ginty

Simple fact is Ozil and Ramsey have not achieved. L

Belfast Gooner

Sell and get Emery’s players in. Can’t have a £350’000 a week player only playing at home. Though how we move on those wages I have no idea. Obviously doesn’t fit into Emery’s team. Needs to go.

kas

They even discussed it on Talksh… earlier, stand up the idiot who gave him that new contract?

SharpasFc

He’s gone to Milan

Greg

Only way is a free transfer, offset the cost of his wages

Crazy who ever sanctioned it, aw and ig both gone, cheers guys

Rich

Even on a free, who in their right mind would give this guy £40,000,000 on a 2.5yr deal?

Doesn’t sound like he wants to leave London either, it really wouldn’t surprise me if he sat around until Beckham gets his Franchise up and running, and then takes another huge undeserved and unwarranted pay rise.

gooner1317

Emery’s team which is satisfied getting a draw at Brighton? LOL

Unai seems like a charming version of Mourinho, tactically with the way he sets his teams up we will never ever win the league under him.

Don't boo Paul Davis

People were saying similar after Wenger’s first five months in charge.

SharpasFc

Mourinho won 3 Premier League titles…as he likes to remind everyone. The only reason he didn’t succeed with Man Utd is that he always implodes in his 3rd season because the payoff is worth falling out with everyone…he’ll still get another job even though he is toxic. Emery is not toxic. He’s a manager in a league that his new for him and he’s still finding his way. He hasn’t got everything right, but like AW before him he’s been beset by injuries to key players. And if you think the team were satisfied with a draw that says more… Read more »

Amusa

Maybe he is really injured for once?
Anyway Emery needs to realize he is one of the most creative players in the squad.
Ramsey and Özil leaving scares me.
All creativity gone. No wingers. 1 good CB left. Problems at LB and RB.
We honestly need 5-6 players in the next two windows.
Or we’ll keep on slipping down the table.
Kronke as owner, scary times.

Adrian

If he is really injured then why we don’t get this news from club? The way they announced for Bellerin, Rob, Mustafi etc. Why we get this always from Media.
And if he is really injured then he should not be playing at all (like last two matches) unless he is completely fit else people will raise question.

Red-Sky

Because the club is not required to race journalist on publishing news.
they will announce it when it is convenient.
nothing more ridiculous than creating conspiracy theories from typical events.

Bobby

Everyone who down voted this, do you have fair in Iwobi or Miki? LOL

Bobby

It’s bad mgmt Arsenal withdrew the contract with Ramsey but they happily pay Miki 250 a week

Mesut O'Neill

I read somewhere he is on £140,000 a week.

SB Still

When Sanchez, Giroud and Walcott moved on, there were similar concerns about goal scoring.

Surely the club would be planning replacements?!

SharpasFc

Exactly, the idea that Raul and Sven are sat around twiddling their fingers while our team falls to pieces is ridiculous. Apart from a winger we got everything we wanted back in the Summer…and at one point there was talk of a CB coming in, hence the reason Calum was allowed to go out on loan. That fell through because the guy didn’t have the right paperwork. I don’t know what we will do in January, but if Top 4 is to be achieved we need to strengthen in the right places.

Goonerink

The only one we haven’t replaced is giroud/Walcott (depending on who Auba replaces)

We are still short a wide forward I feel and are congested in the cm dept.

Cb and a winger in Jan please unai.
I’d be happy with 2 loans, if they were cahill and o. dembele.

SharpasFc

We had Welbeck as a plan B but he got injured.

Pakgooner

Very confused by the whole situation… I’d have liked Mesut to play tomorrow

Monkey G

It is clear that Emery has lost the plot. If we get trashed tomorrow than he needs to be sacked on the spot. I hope there is good plan behind this ego war nonsense. But I am not holding my breath. #EmeryOut.

Bob

Ozil was missing these games last season aswell to the point people were making jokes. Emery might have had enough of Ozil but this is ongoing,

SharpasFc

This is the thing I don’t understand. If you look at what Ozil did last season it wasn’t really that great and this season apart from the odd performance we actually haven’t really missed him.

clay

Thought last season the whole team wasn’t that great not Ozil only but everyone.

SharpasFc

Don’t get me wrong…last season the whole team were abysmal hence the reason we finished 6th and we were probably lucky not to drop down to 7th. But the discussion is about Ozil and his contribution. For my sins I’m a nerd who likes to spend time studying stats and Ozil actually missed loads of games last season and despite what some people might think we didn’t lose games that he didn’t play in…much like this season. Obviously in an ideal world we want Ozil to play; but I support the team first and foremost. We can’t truly judge Emery… Read more »

Don't boo Paul Davis

Absolutely right. These disappearances didn’t start with Emery.

Pkub

Don’t even start that nonsense with Emery Out. Just embarrassing yourself….

Sorry but no player is bigger than the club. If rest of the team is behind Emery & his philosophy, I don’t see why Ozil shouldn’t.

Bobby

Tell Lacazette that ?

SharpasFc

stupid comment!

Monkey G

I very much doubt that team is behind this Emery nonsense. Senior players will be on Ozils side, youngsters are too scared to say anything. We have been falling apart since Spurs win. This nonsense plus injuries are taking it’s toll on the team. It completely unprofessional from Emery to play these silly games at this point. Very poor management. #EmeryOut asap

Pkub

Of course injuries are going to have an effect on the team when we’re basically without a proper back line.

At this point? 6/7 months in the job? To me this seems the perfect time where Emery will be able to see where & who he can build the team around.

SharpasFc

And that’s what he’s trying to do. Does anyone bother to listen to his pre or post match press conferences? You can learn so much about a person by listening to what they say and their body language. Emery is a very good manager under pressure.

SharpasFc

You’re just a troll…don’t you have anything better to do with your time?

MrT

You are a troll too SharpasFC… you know Emery for 6 months to know he is a good manager under pressure… Joker

SharpasFc

I use that thing called the internet to research Emery’s career and I’ve also read the book El Maestro….I take time to re-watch games etc. I don’t just have knee jerk reactions. Do I think Emery has got everything right? Of course not. But I see the difference in how the team is playing since we sustained injuries to key players. Anyway, you’re entitled to your opinion, as am I.

Bob

“We’ve been falling apart since the spurs win”. Yeah, smashing our rivals 4-2 must really have crushed morale….

Jimbo Jones

I don’t post here much anymore but Monkey you’re an idiot. Seriously you have no idea what it means to support the Arsenal. Its a shame that even though the club with Emery are moving forwards, fans like you are addicted to the drama and want to drag us down. I dont need explain the pros and cons of Ozil to any fans who get their Arsenal fill at matches, not through tweets and Youtube clips. This problem has been in the making for years and we are better positioned after 6 months of Emery than we have been for… Read more »

SharpasFc

Well said. You’ve touched on a key point. Some people are literally addicted to drama. Of course the media tap into that element but even amongst our own fan base there is a tendency to share or retweet opinions that frankly need binning or ignoring. Either people love the team regardless or they are glory hunters who will probably be disappointed while we are in our transition period.

Red-Sky

lol.

Adrian

Yea I am with you #Emryout and let’s bring new coach. New year with new coach. Who is your favorite, SAF, Mourinho or Zidane?

Monkey G

Zidane will do.

Adrian

How about Zidane plus Ronaldo, Bale, Modric, Varane?

I'm 14 again

Isn’t ‘ol ‘Arry Redknapp in with a shout?

Irrational Gunner

F it. Let’s go all the way, where’s BIG SAM!

SharpasFc

I don’t think we can afford Mourinho…his payoffs are becoming extortionate!

Godfrey Twatsloch

Adding to that the toll he takes on any squad he spends his tenure breaking down. Some recover, some don’t.

loose_cannon

I think the people disliking your comment couldn’t tell it was a joke….it WAS a joke…right??

SharpasFc

I could, and my comments about Mou were a joke too…I actually felt sorry for Man U while he was in charge!

Russ

Yeah… whatever mate.

I'm 14 again

Lol. This is sarcasm no?

Tony G

In the wise words of Bricktop…YOU FUCKIN’ PRATT!

baz00r

Your the type of fan that often makes it embarrassing to be an Arsenal support. “Sacked on the spot” , give me a break you moron.

SharpasFc

You’re not serious are you?

MrT

Well said Monkey G , you have only been at AFC 6 months but his BIG EGO is flying sky high. Someone needs to drop that… Mr Kroenke

Birdkamp

Man, this topic has a lot of baggage and divides opinion. But honestly, has Ozil hit the heights of 2015-16? To me we have to go back three years to the last time he was turning out big performances every week. By that I mean, making us look dangerous every time we attacked with clever touches and passes, stuff that would often go under the radar. Now we get these amazing moments of ingenuity, but even before Emery came they were increasingly isolated. He hasn’t looked the same for a while.

I'm 14 again

Back spasms have been on for quite a while, before that the whole team played like shit. Now, I would add a possible emotional or psychological issue. But hey, what do I know? I’m only trying to compare the character of the man from before now. Don’t think any of his coaches have ever really complained about him. So if there really is a bone to pick with Emery, something must be off and it’s unlikely Emery’s ‘ego’ is the problem

Richie

Okay he’s not playing, so who will replace him tomorrow; Iwobi or Ramsey? I would surely start Ramsey in this game.

Let'sGoArsenal

Let’s sell him in Jan or next summer, it’ll be better to spent those 350kpw to a new needed winger and CB.

Tas_Gunner

I mean I kinda like it this way.Maybe he is a luxury player and maybe he isn’t the type to tackle and show pashun. But that’s not what we bought.we bought an elite attacking player who is one of the best chance creators in the world. Not every coach will have a place for him in his side ,only the best earns can afford luxurious attacking football anyway. If we were gonna move to a new direction,if Gazidis had it all pre-planned(new manager) WHY THE FUCK OFFER HIM THAT CONTRACT? specially after the summer he had mentally,u make him even more neglected and… Read more »

Bobby

They didn’t have plan, it was made up on the spot… trust me on this one ?

baz00r

Paragraphs are your friend.

Absolut

Get well soon Mesut: mentally and physically. Arsenal could do with your creativity right now.

Bob

Mentally? Why do people keep acting like Ozil is out the side because he is depressed or something? There’s no suggestion of that, it’s kind of insulting to people who do suffer with these problems

Goonershk

Who else can we find to replace ozil then? Guendouzi? The second half in last match already was just a disaster

CoNr

I am calling BS on this injury… its either Ozil feared he would be dropped so has feigned a knee problem, thus taking the situation out of Emery’s hands.

Or Emery has dropped him for tactical reasons and to stop the spread of more rumours about a rift etc have leaked to the press he has a knee problem.

One thing for sure is when we need him against big teams he always seems to be injured. leaving me to think he does not what to made a scapegoat like he has been for Germany if we lose.

clay

The fans need him but Emery doesn’t.

Bob

Ah no, now we won’t get to watch Ozil dominate in an away match against a top 6 side like he always does

02ba

Did anyone really expect anything else regarding the team sheet and another injury. Still small mercy it isn’t his back. His time as an Arsenal player surely has to be up.

Thierry Bergkamp

This is getting ridiculous now.

Almunia4Pires

January 1st can’t come fast enough.

Billy Bob

People go on about his wages but at a club abroad where the tax system is different (i.e. you don’t have to pay him so much to meet the pay after tax) we could find his wages less of an excuse for not being able to move him on!!! Besides, as a football player I would want to play for a manager and team that appreciated my talents but paid a bit less, than earn more at a club that doesn’t really want you – if indeed that is the case?

Vonnie

People also conveniently forget that there was no transfer fee so we effectively signed him on a free and his signing on bonus is included in his wages, to the clubs benefit as they didn’t have to spend a lump sum. But hey, let’s not let facts get in the way of a good shit stir.

Billy Bob

I think you are missing my point entirely!!! We got Ozil for £42m and he has been here for what five seasons, so less than £10m a year – in that time we have won the fa cup a few times and had some very memorable moments with Ozil!! What I am getting at is the main stumbling block is the wages but, even then, I think it would not be as big a deal as some would make out!!! What I do think is criminal is that Sanchez was not sold to Man City for £50m and Ramsey sold… Read more »

Vonnie

I totally agree, but the point I’m trying to make is that he didn’t sign on for free when he renewed his contract. The 350K a week includes the signing on fee split over the length of the contract so the club didn’t have to fork out a lump sum. His actual wages are probably half the weekly payment and the rest is installments on his signing on fee. If he had been paid the fee up front the wages would have been much lower and we wouldn’t keep hearing about his outrageous wages which aren’t actually wages. We started… Read more »

If Ozil is injured or not, it doesn’t matter really. Either way it is not good and he cannot be relied upon.

Irrational Gunner

Yes. We are short of players as it stands. Sorry, but if the guy can walk to the bus he should get on it. Another thing, if he wants to butt heads with Emery, he will lose to that guy. The brass has shown they aren’t afraid to make an uncomfortable decision. (Pulling the Ramsey contact.) Something has to give in this situation, before he (Ozil) becomes a pariah.

Ozzie

Sell Ozil quick. His wages are the reason Ramsey’s going.
Fresh space in the team and the budget mean we could still keep the latter, and let him play as no10.

Olivije Žirod

It is so much more than about Ozil. Emery has been here now for 7 months and it is evident that his philosophy is not compatible to Arsenal. You all so hate Mourinho’s football but because of those 14 games unbeaten in league people don’t see that Emery has the same approach. We are the one who should impose our game to the opponent and not vice versa. That is why the fanbase is divided again. Emery is not a warrant for a success. Also, I am on Emry side (not true fan as you said)

Sad Gooner

Agreed.

Timsh

This squad is completely imbalanced and has quite a few players with recurring injury problems. Also I believe it lags quality in some departments as well as competitive depth. Emery said he would prefer to control games better so I believe he has a different ideal about football than what the Team is showing. I accept he made a few mistakes recently but I think he can come good with the right support. With regards to Özil, I have no idea what’s going on. Love the player because he plays the Arsenal way I came to love. But maybe I… Read more »

Load of nonsense!
I will back Emery every time against that cissy that is Ozil.

89 was fine

Ozil’s been struggling a long time before emery arrived and plenty of fans and pundits have been divided on him for years. He’s like marmite you love or hate him. What’s the point of fans jumping down emery throat when previously fans moaned ‘its wenger’s fault’ for always playing him even when he was shit. Ozil has always devided opinion but now after all the new changes taking place and a new manager trying to find his best methods and tactics with an injury ravaged squad…let’s just moan and cry and shit the bed cos we’re arsenal fans and that’s… Read more »

Emery should leave as soon as possible. #EmeryOut

Average Joe

I don’t have a problem with him not playing, I have a problem with these ridiculous injury reports from the club! Tell the truth, do not do this to the fans! After all what’s happend in the last few years we do not need this day after day!

SharpasFc

The club haven’t said anything yet as far as I know. The injury happened during training not during a match and I don’t think the club report such injuries straight away…check out Arsenal.com

Dom47

What a pussy.

David Blasczyk

Do I cry or laugh?

Can I remind the premature critics (#Emeryout FFS!) that the City and Liverpool fan boys were baying for blood in the first respective seasons of Pep and Klopp when each manager essentially inherited an unbalanced squad. That all changed when they were given the opportunity and funds to sort out their poor defences and strengthen the overall squad. Not saying Emery will be as successful in turning around Arsenal (although I hope so) But give the man a chance! And as for Ozil, there is clearly an issue there between manager and player and I hope the real assist-supremo Mesut… Read more »

I’ll go ahead and say it…

Shoulda invested some, if not most of his wages, into tying Ramsey up long term. He has his own qualities and rarely fails to leave it on the pitch. 20:20 yes.
Özil is just fucking about now and not gaining much sympathy. Wouldve been diff for me any way if the tweet stated he collided with team mate and was left with a sore knee and unfit to play. Just ‘complained with sore knee and was withdrawn from travelling squad’ don’t sit right with me.

baz00r

Offload both of them and get two players that Emery actually wants would be an even better idea.

Mark

Of course he is.

BigArse

1) Work it out! I refuse to believe Ozil can’t play a major part in a team that has such deadly finishers as Lacazette and Aubameyang.
2) If not, do you think Napoli would take Ozil and 50 million for Koulibaly? We need a rock in defence, and Ozil would be perfect for the slower paced yet defensive Serie A. His quality could unlock a lot of defences.

Scattered thoughts I know, but it’s a fucked up situation.

Irrational Gunner

Work it out is the best answer, if possible. Hate to say, but he has a contract, and any team looking at him will definitely be in a position of negotiating strength given all the preceding soap opera. The wages/contract given to him earlier this year was not performance based, and that always seems to become an issue if poor performance ensues. Club looks to be between a rock and a hard place presently.

Santori

Just great. We could well do with him and his creative vision playing an inverted triangle with Laca and Auba helping to press higher against Liverpuddle. As is we are also without Mhkitaryan. Looks like we may have to play either Ramsey in the hole in the inverted triangle behind the strikers or with Ramsey and either of Laca or Auba as the sole striker. Also fretting on availability of Mustafi, Bellerin and Monreal. Hopefully Mustafi is ready to hold right side of back 3, Sokratis in the middle. The left side may be a toss up between Monreal (if… Read more »

Unai is a joker. Hardly 6 months into the team and he has player manager conflict that too with Mesut Özil who is not a trouble maker. Unai will fill the team with jokers who will run all over the pitch like headless chicken and all our victory will be smash and grab. If he can not accommodate best number 10 in his squad then he has serious problems with his way of building teams. Arsenal is going to go down from here. I love this club so so much, hurts so much to see this.

Kafkush

I thought about this a bit more. It’s ridiculous. Emery is making a mistake, alienating our marquee player. And I’m not talking about salary, I don’t care. He’s our most creative player. Classic cutting off the nose to spite the face. I think this is stupid.
Being a flair team has been part of our identity, who wants to watch a bunch of workmanlike cloggers like sp*rs.

Forest gooner

Now let’s park the bus at anfield with 8 players and play laca and auba upfront.

Nordin

I breath a sigh of relief that Özil wont be involved in the Liverpool game. Coz if he did, every fuck thing that goes wrong during the game will be attributed to Özil, both by fans as well as pumdits who never liked him from the start. They always have something bad to say about him and now many fans have been turned by their narrative. Im very happy that Özil is not aying coz Liverpool gonna fucked us….and there wont be Özil to blame for it. Its all on Emery now!! Im disappointed with Emery for his treatment of… Read more »

Don't boo Paul Davis

To be honest mate, I don’t care that much about Ozil, I just want Arsenal to win.

Teryima Adi

The wound has already festered. Let’s hope it’s not a gangrene. This is just not so healthy for Arsenal. Reminiscent of Mourinho and Pogba at Man Utd.

Okechukwu Jude

I thought one of the reasons for hiring Emery was because of his glowing reputation of improving players? He is supposed to be utilizing the players at his disposal to great effect isn’t he? Ozil like every other player isn’t perfect so I don’t understand this I’ll treatment. Emery has failed in this regard in my Opinion. Ozil isn’t suffering from any knee injury. Its just a ploy to circumvent the real issue.

Just a fan

Enough is enough. No more lies…there is no single explanatiln official. No mentioning on arsenal. Com
Youre right mate

Fatgooner

Good. Ozil just isn’t right for games like these. To get something from Anfield we’ll need grafters and not lazy prima donnas like Ozil. Our German friend is great for home games against weak teams but disappears in matches like these.

This situation needs to be resolved quickly. The transfer window opens next week. It’s time to get Ozil out the door.

SharpasFc

I don’t often agree with you Fats and I don’t agree with a lot of what you put here but I will say this…if Ozil is our most creative player then we are in deep trouble…because he doesn’t turn up often enough…so it’s literally lose lose whether we play him or not.

CJay

Ozil just needs to track back and make sure not to lose his man when we don’t have the ball and he’d be golden. And also stop that fucking annoying shit he does when he ducks when going for headers. maybe he’s afraid of getting injured, so he doesn’t ever fully commit into any challenges. but if he could just up his defensive game, everything would be sorted.

Naked cygan

If Ozil is injured, then my grandmother is joining Barcelona to replace Lionel Messi.

OohToBe

“Knee Injury”

Viv

Ozil is a super skillful player. But I feel he can’t do 90 minutes, hence he’s preserving energy to prolong the time on the pitch.I think he gets really tired easily ,looking at his eyes and his slow runs…
Those who play football might know what I’m talking about….I get tired after a while and from then on less backtracking, less desire….

It’s a stamina thing with Ozil

He’s my fav player on the planet though

Viv

Somehow beat them gunners…our invincible tag is under threat…who else to give them a spanking…

Just a fan

Im 100% sure. Özil has no injury! No official news on arsenal.com

Seems again like a match not suiting him ( emerys opinion )

If this would be a serious injury, they surely give news.

That’s very “tactical”
