Confirmed: Osei-Tutu joins VfL Bochum on loan

Arsenal have confirmed that Academy graduate Jordi Osei-Tutu will spend next season on loan with German second-tier outfit VfL Bochum.

The 20-year-old was apparently left frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities last season, especially given we had an injury crisis in his position, so it’s positive that we have a plan for his development that includes keeping him on the books.

We can assume that our new transition team comprising Per Mertesacker, Freddie Ljungberg, Steve Bould and loan manager Ben Knapper have been behind the deal, which comes quick off the heels of Germany-based loan moves for Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe.

Osei-Tutu’s departure does leave Arsenal with a dearth of right-backs as we head into pre-season with Hector Bellerin out until at least September, Carl Jenkinson linked with a move away and Stephan Lichtsteiner calling time on his Gunners career after a single season.

We look forward to following Jordi’s progress at Bochum. Good luck.

Wonder if Debuchy would come back from St. Etienne for 1 season

Ya gooner

I can only assume this is a joke

Ozymandias

Debuchy… The ‘hardman’ who wouldn’t fight Bellerin for his RB spot.

Beggars can’t be choosers i guess lol

Good luck to the kid. It’s a tough one because fin you don’t get a chance during an injury crisis, when do you? I mean, Bellerin’s loan with Watford in the championship was a bit of a failure, but injury opportunity accelerated his development. This could’ve happened with Osei. Was he that much worse than Jenks or even Litchsteiner? One thing I was happy with Emery when he started was his initial use of a meritocracy which meant anyone would be given a chance based on merit. But as the season went on, he went a bit Wenger and had… Read more »

Maybe he just didn’t think he was good enough?

Faisal Narrage aka Mr. Project Youth 2.0

Possibly. Probably. Guess we will find out if he is indeed worse than Litchsteiner or Jenks.

“meritocracy” was only a lie made up by people who wanted to think Emery is a polar opposite of Wenger. Cutback manager tries to always play it safe

Devlin

I guess this means we are signing a right back too, right?

Man Manny

Yes we are – and a left back also.
I’d sell Mustafi, Kolasinac and Ospina; bring Emi Martinez,; recall Chambers.
The backline would be Leno, Martinez, new RB, new LB, Monreal, Sokratis, Chambers, Holding, Bellerin and Koscielny.
I’d sell Mkhitaryan, replace Ramsey , sign another young attacking midfielder, promote Bielik, Willock, ESR, Nelson, Saka and Nketiah fully into the first team.

Leno me, I’ll be your friend

Right back at ya!

Devlin

I like that.

Teakster

Phhahahahahahahahha….a signing? Sure. Dream on son.

He was unhappy at not being given more game time last season? Strange considering he was also injured for a large chunk of the season and when he did play in the under 23s got himself sent off and band for 3 matches for violent conduct. He maybe frustrated but that should be mainly at himself considering Emery seem to be using him slot in the first team squad during pre-season. Having said all that though, I hope we got him to sign a contract extension before he went off to Germany. I thought that this was his last contracted… Read more »

We should definitely be in for a right back, I’d like us to go for Max Aarons from Norwich. I’m not sure about Tierney on the left, he’s missed 239 days over the past 3 seasons, we don’t need another injury prone player, particularly with Holding+Bellerin coming back from long term injuries, and also question marks around whether Koscielny+Monreal can play more than a game a week. We need to find some stability, hopefully we can extend Bielik’s contract, and whilst I’m not Chambers’s biggest fan, he’s got a fair amount of experience now and could be another option centrally,… Read more »

I thought he’d be used more this season and certainly next, I wonder what the alternate plan is

locksley444

I see this as Jenko getting one more(last?) season with us. With the squad requiring major changes in other areas, him and AMN can hopefully do the job till Hector comes back.

loose_cannon

Can only imagine Emery thinks AMN, Chambers, Jenko and *gulp* Mustafi will be sufficient cover. Not totally unreasonable but out of the lot, Jenko is the only one who plays RB as his preferred position. And let’s be honest, he’s so-so at best. I’ve never seen Osei-Tutu play, but if he can’t get past that lot it either raise questions over his ability or the pathway from academy to the first team.

Faisal Narrage aka Mr. Project Youth 2.0

I can’t see why Emery would consider Chambers as RB cover, seeing as he’s never seen him play there.

But I hope not, because Chambers as RB should never happen again. He’s already quite slow as a CB.

Gooner Sam

I’m all for loans to give playing time in the top German league but second league…..could we not have found better than that?

Chrispy

So we loan out a player to leave ourselves short in the position…..pft only at Arsenal.
Here’s a wacky idea, how about blood him in our first team?

Cygans Parting

I totally agree sir. If the club is serious about project youth 2.0 then they should have the courage of their convictions and try the lad in firstly Europa League and League cup. Then if he does well put him on the bench regularly in the premier League and bring him on when possible. After all if he doesn’t perform we still have either Ainsley, Mustafi and Jenkinson or Chambers to muddle through with until Hector the Great comes back!

Chickenshite

But they’d rather persist with failed / previously unsuccessful options.

Sam

It’s Emery. It will be a miracle if 2 of the academy players get some chances in matches which are not Europa group stage

Naked Cygan

Tata Tutu!

Deo

Hope he comes back stronger. We could use every bit of our academy to help the first team right now!
