Dani Ceballos will wear the number 8 for Arsenal this season after his loan move from Real Madrid was confirmed today.
He inherits the digits from the recently departed Aaron Ramsey and follows in the footsteps of club greats Ian Wright and Freddie Ljungberg.
The Spain international, 22, is likely to join first team training tomorrow as the Gunners get ready to take on Lyon on Sunday at the Emirates.
We know you all know this, but shirt number posts on Arseblog News are a time-honoured tradition, like Christmas Carols; those little poo statues of famous people you can buy in Barcelona; or disowning your child when he comes home and says “Mom, Dad – I have something to tell you. You always said you’d support me no matter what. The truth is, I like Phil Collins”.
Sure, you lose an offspring, but at least the shame is gone from your family.
Anyway, let’s hope he’s a great number eight.
Didn’t Arteta wear 8 too? Good company he’s in then.
If is anything like another No. 8 – Arteta, in the contribution on the field, then it’s a very good business.
While there is a option to buy, I hope we have 1st option, if they sell.
The control of Arteta, the energy of Ramsey, the runs of Freddie and the goals of Wright… too much to ask?….
I think the goals of Wright is a little too far.
He is a really good player for the here and now and bags of potential for the future. For some reason I can’t help but think what a short sighted signing. A 4million euro loan fee and no option to buy at end of loan.
I got a little flutter in my chest thinking about the sweet music dani and ozil can compose together
Keeping it warm for Willock.
Wright, Ljungberg, Lassana Diarra, Nasri, Arteta, Ramsey….it’s a number that for the most part has treated us very well
Did you really have to use the N word
Not sure why Diarra was even mentioned. Only thing of note he did was leave.
I heard he was voted Arsenal’s “Most Dolphin-Headed Player” 2007. Prestigious.
Excited to see a talented dribbler play for us. Averages 3.4 dribbles a match, which is a pretty big stat.
exactly why i’m excited for him, we were #1 in 14/15 season for dribbles compared to in the bottom 10 or something in last season.
-I don’t get the hate Phil Collins receives. It’s like people inherit beef from previous generations…
-Like hatred for Spurs?
-Oh, right.
This is a good decision. It has no impact to budget and we get him (hopefully) with option to buy. BUT he covers both AM and CM. 1)At AM we are unlikely to move Ozil. If so, we should move Mhkitaryan to make some money to add to transfer budget (I estimate say 10m) Smith-Rowe (whether he goes out on loan or not) should potentially be groomed for the position. BUT Cebellos is a good back up. 2) At CM we laack retention ability and dribbling in tight confines back there. Whether it was through brute force (Viera), technical skills… Read more »
While Im glad hes here and hope he does well for us, Im not sure how I feel about a loanee being given the no. 8 shirt. Its an iconic shirt for me and should be worn by a proper Arsenal player.
Not much I can do about it and when he scores a brace against the scum in the FA cup final Ill be singing his name.
Hey Blogs, rgarding your “I have something to tell you”. I heard you met some of our GayGooners out in America, and they passed on our gratitude at being a valued ally against homophobia in football. Cheers fella!
Every time ?
With the 8 shirt, it looks as the club actually plans to play him. I doubt Martinelli will play much this season. Saliba isn’t even here. I’m still waiting for a center back who can actually help us right away.
Did anyone mention another legendary player with the number 8 on his back . . . Alan Sunderland.
People need to mention him more often, by the way !
Really looking forward to seeing this lad play. A new number 8 for a season loan sorted before the last minute of the transfer window is….we’re on the up!
