Ahead of the FA Cup final tomorrow, Emi Martinez spoke to the press about his 10 years at Arsenal, playing in the final, what the future might hold for him, and lots more.
Check it out below – and read today’s Arseblog: EMI MARTINEZ TAKES HIS CHANCE, HIS AMBITION DEMANDS A DECISION
I think with what I have seen so far, Emi is a better goalkeeper than Leno, he is more commanding and hardly spills the ⚽. Leno is undoubtedly a great goalie, but this is about my preference based on watching both.. More so he is Arsenal inside out
His ability to hang onto the ball against hard and fast shots is as good as I’ve ever seen.
One of the hardest things to do in sports is sell high. Right now it seems like we have two goalies at close to the peak of their values (Martinez could increase and maybe by a bit if he sticks as #1 and proves this is no fluke). Both are young and quality. Leno is coming off a really really good season and his value is justifiably high – and likely to be higher value than Martinez due to experience, but I think Emi shades Leno in quality – mainly because of his exceptional ability to hold onto shots (and… Read more »
Where was this EMI the day we paid for Leno?
OTOH, I wonder how the trainers watched him for ten years and didn’t he was this good.
*… realize he was this good.
June 19th 2018? On paper he was still on loan at Getafe. In reality he was probably on holiday somewhere.
Maturing
I hope we can keep him for at least one more season. Then decide. Macey of course also ready to step up. BUT at very least we have an edge over Chelsea in the keeper department tomorrow with their Kepa a bit of a liability. Hope our strikers and mids take shots at their goal whenever possible to catch their man off guard. Zouma/Rudiger neither terribly convincing either so we need to be SHARP up top. 50-50 between starting Auba up top with Saka left and Pepe right or starting Laca up top with Auba left and either of Saka… Read more »
Check out how, 29 min and 31 min into this interview, two journalists each ask him in all seriousness about one of the completely made up “things you didn’t know about Emi Martinez” found here:

OMG!
That ‘tattoo’ is the lyrics to I wanna know what love is.
Haha–brilliant! Emi’s bemused expression was priceless … Hats off for the original piss-take: a six-year-old gift that keeps on giving.
The ultimate long con
Man, everything about this guy is great. To actually change footedness when you’re young is impressive (though I think every professional should be able to use both feet), everything his parents did and sacrificed for him, having zero support in his first year here and so wanting to help the young players, his utmost professionalism and confidence.
I realise a football club shouldn’t trade on sentiment, but I really want Emi to be the #1.
On a side note, Arteta’s wife is stunning. Their kids are going to be gods.
