Mark McGuinness has joined Ipswich Town on loan, report Arsenal.com.
The Irish defender, who has yet to make his official senior debut, played in a pre-season game against MK Dons last month, and thumped home an impressive header in the 4-1 win.
He’ll spend the 2020-21 season with the League One outfit who will be targeting a return to the Championship after their relegation in 2019.
He joins a host of young players on loan to further their development with competitive football, including Tyreece John-Jules, Jordi Osei-Tutu, Trae Coyle, Matt Smith and Zech Medley.
Best of luck to him during his spell with The Tractor Boys, and he follows in the footsteps of Ainsley Maitland-Niles who had a good spell there a few seasons ago.
Being from Norwich I don’t envy him going to ips#it, but hope he has a good stint there – looks like he has some good potential
I like him. BFG 2
Yeh this is definitely a good thing. One to keep an eye on!

Hopefully our academy players are safe playing in the leagues that no longer provide mandatory testing.
Athletes are least at risk (due to superior cardiovascular fitness) although their family maybe at more risk.
Even PL teams and players are getting infected and carrying the virus – Gundogan recently, and now Moyes and his players (whom we just played!). Hopefully it hasn’t gotten into our first-team squad …
Sadly Smith-Rowe sustained a knock otherwise midweek could have been some feature for him. Expect we may see Saliba and Nelson, Willock and maybe Saka again on the wing. AMN can also come in. Granit in danger of being over played so would think Elneny may also deputise with Willock as central duo. Meanwhile Cedric looks injury prone and again out with minor issue another reason NOT to release Bellerin early. May be too early to see Runarsson,so not sure if Leno starts or maybe one of Macey or Iliev given a last look. Nketiah should also have some feature… Read more »
It seems like there is a crob of promising young centre backs of the Isles like Mark, Daniel, Harry, so on. Will be really interesting how they will performe. I hope one of them becomes like a Martin Keown, who you can rely on and be always available if you need them, like a wingman in a Gabriel-Saliba partnership. Up The Arsenal!
Niles improved and showcase what he was about at Ipswich under Mick McCarthy. Let’s hope he settles quickly into a family club and gets some decent experience at that level.
McGuinness was, I think, part of the Arsenal U21 team that beat Ipswich at Portman Road in the EFL trophy, so they had a good look at him in action – I’m sure he’ll get plenty of minutes with the Tractor Boys and come back to Arsenal a much improved player.
One for the future?
