Video: Nketiah bags hat-trick for England U21, Nelson on the scoresheet too

Eddie Nketiah captained England U21s to a 6-0 win over Kosovo last night, scoring a second half hat-trick in the process.

He notched all three in a 10 minute spell after the break. His first was a close range header:

His second a left-footed shot:

And the third came from the penalty spot:

Fellow Gunner Nelson made it 4-0 shortly afterwards:

England U21s boss Aidy Boothroyd paid tribute to Nketiah afterwards, saying, “I think Eddie is now two goals off the under-21s’ goal-scoring record, he’s two behind Alan Shearer, so that tells you his calibre of goal-scoring.

“I’ve said a lot about Eddie. He’s not only a brilliant player, but he’s a brilliant guy.

“He played a real captain’s game tonight because they were rather heavy-handed with him let’s say, because they know he’s a threat, but he just gets up and gets on with it and gets goals.”

Nice work, Eddie!

Well done, young man. Big things ahead for you I think.

I love that BBC sport went with the headline “Jude Bellingham scores on a record-breaking night”.

Surely the story is that Arsenal youth is fuckin sick and the future of English football.

You’re welcome Gareth Southgate.

Who cares about some twat who has merged the names of the two biggest bell pieces in football – Craig Bellamy and Teddy Sheringham.

Lettra

Yeah I reacted at that as well , Eddie scored his 8 goal in the qualifiers (4games played). Special.

3 Arsenal players, 3 Norwich players so you can imagine how limited the pundits’ options are.

C’mon people, give this comment the love it deserves

That was my initial thoughts, but he is a £20m 17 year old.

I bet they hated having to say that Nketiah not only captained the side but also got a perfect hattrick in under ten minutes, and is only 2 goals off Francis Jeffers(and shearars) record

2 goal behind our legend and Pl winners Francis Jeffers

Buendia or Cantwell, if you were Arteta?

Cantwell. He’s quite talented, has a bit of flair to his game AND is also a self-confessed Gooner.

Would love Jack Cantwell here.

Pepe The Frog

Davies (Everton). Cantwell had a hand in the second goal too.

NMArsenal

Gonna say the same. Yes, the Arsenal trio of Saka, Nkeitah and Nelson looked great. That kid looked quite good as well.

Big fan of Eddie. He will get plenty of opportunities this season if he stays fit. I’m expecting him to really kick on and show what he is all about.
Congrats on the hat trick and here’s hoping for lots more in an Arsenal shirt!
Also well done Reiss, another player who will hopefully really kick on this year. The talent is there.

Phil

Strikes me that both of them just need something to spark them into life at Arsenal and give them the confidence to push on.

Reiss especially looks like a guy with all the talent, but who is sometimes a little afraid to take a risk.

Martin Lausten

Still not convinced, except for one or two brief moments, he haven’t shown anything so far. Disappears much of the time. Hopefully he makes huge strides this season.

Biggles

Well, I think that’s a tad harsh. He’s still “developing” and Arteta has shown an (almost) uncanny ability to bring the best out of a range of players since taking over. While Nketiah certainly isn’t the finished article, there’s enough there – along with Arteta’s guidance – to produce a pretty good player. As you say, this season will be important and we’ll know more, assuming he gets a fair amount of game time, later.

Parisian Weetabix

Hes just not quite built enough yet, but the software’s there. Give him a couple of years to put on some muscle and he’ll be a player.

jw1

This is just the feeling that I get about AMN– now. That his switch ‘just flipped on’ late this last season. Played like a man. Arteta put him in positions to excel.

Eddie’s on that path. It will be apparent– when it happens.

goonero

The transition to the mens game is really a lot harder than some Arsenal players past and present have made it look. Eddie is already an exceptional penalty box player. And what’s more is he’s shown his capacity to translate that in the mens game so there’s very clearly something there. The fact he’s doing that means it’s a natural ability of his, he will always be able to find himself the space and time in the area to score goals. What he misses now is the work around that. Holding up the ball, linking the play, getting himself involved… Read more »

SantaClausola

He isn’t ready to lead the line for us if that’s what you mean, I agree. He should defo get games to do this to develop, but he isn’t there yet to do this for us game in and game out. However he certainly looks like he has the right stuff to make it. Let’s hope he does and it’s with ourselves. I think a lot will depend if we sell Laca. Could see Auba playing up top in rotation with Eddie, maybe with Balogun promoted….(hoping)

Charlie

Perfect hat-trick – header, left foot, right foot pen

Mick Malthouse

Miles offside for the second?

Yolo Toure

Nah near side fullback plays him on – you can see him sheepishly running forward to make it look like he was holding the line.

What a penalty though.

David C

Did I see Saka in one of those replays too? Wow, we have some great young talent at the club and a fantastic manager to guide them.

Good times are here!

Header, left foot, right foot = a perfect hat trick. Wonderful stuff.

Santori

Eddie has great instincts. This season could be his if we should sell one of Laca or Auba. Of the two again, I prefer to sell Auba bc Martinelli can come in from left. Eddie again for me needs to prove delivery this season before we let Laca go (with 2 years left on contract) and at 29. Nelson needs to be given opportunity too. Which is why I simply cannot understand Willian addition. Poor choice. He will bring something but he cost 220K per week for 3 years at 32. He isn’t as versatile as many imagine. And we… Read more »
