After a hugely frustrating start to the season, Arsenal U23s look as though they have finally turned a corner, with the 6-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers providing the squad with a major confidence boost.
One player who has impressed in recent weeks is Tim Akinola, the midfielder who was signed in the summer having been let go by Huddersfield Town.
Akinola was a surprise addition to the U23 squad but it was clear that Steve Bould’s side needed a player in that mould – a midfielder who is capable of breaking up play efficiently.
It is clear that Akinola is capable of doing that, and, although he took a while to adapt to Arsenal’s style of play, the 19-year-old is starting to settle in well.
Meanwhile, forward Nikolaj Moller, who was previously at Malmo, has made an instant impact and has impressed with his linkup play in addition to providing a goal threat.
Moller’s height is an extremely useful asset and he has managed to combine with fellow striker Folarin Balogun to excellent effect.
The 18-year-old was involved in first-team training today and certainly looks to possess the required qualities to make an impact at senior level in due course.

He came from Malmö,
He’s better than Agüero,
Nicky Moller,
Oooohhh, oh….
My umlaut game is strong.
Tall young striker whose name is Nick?
What could go wrong?
And Scandinavian as well!
Tim Akinola,
He’s better than Demba Ba,
Even when he runs really far,
And makes a prick out of Solskjær.
Tim Akinola!
Nicky Moller is magic,
He wears a magic hat,
And when he saw the Emirates,
He said I fancy that.
He didn’t sign for Chelsea,
Or Tottenham they are shite,
He signed for Arsenal because we had a severe depletion in under twenty three players partly due to many of them being called up to the senior squad.
Thanks for that Johnny…that’s made my day and it’s on 12.48pm lol
In thought it would be crazy that we seemingly signing players left right and Center. Were they decent?
But it seems that they were square pegs in square holes.
It seems there is a philosophical change which is strong at the playing squad level.
Let’s hope it translates to long term support at the board and technical director level. Where their policies are consistent other sporting excellence and achievement
After seeing more and more snippets of cotterill, im starting to think this is the real talent. Super clever movement with excellent execution in what he does. Sees things so clearly. He’s just a very smart player. Shame he’s so tiny but he’s got such a natural football brain that I think he’ll go to the top
Agreed. And being small hasn’t held back Messi
