According to Goal.com’s Arsenal correspondent Charles Watts, Thomas Partey will miss Ghana’s African Cup of Nations qualification double-header with Sudan due to injury.
The Arsenal signing was due to feature home and away for the Black Stars on Thursday and the following Tuesday, but after picking up a thigh problem in the first half of last night’s 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa he will now stay in London to focus on his rehab.
Thomas Partey will be staying with Arsenal during the international break due to his thigh injury. He won't be linking up with Ghana.

After yesterday’s game, Mikel Arteta seemed unsure on the extent of the injury.
“We don’t know [the extent] of it,” he told his post-game press conference. “We have to scan him tomorrow or the day after and see what he felt straight away. Let’s wait and see what the magnitude of the injury is.
“I don’t know [if he will go away with Ghana now]. As I said, the doctor will have to have a look at him and probably scan him. Then we will decide what to do with him.”
Here’s hoping the decision to stay at Arsenal is more of a precaution than a sign of any serious damage. We’ve got a lot of games on the horizon and are going to need as many options in midfield as possible.
Lol, I didn’t know the timing of an injury could be so perfect until today. Better a niggle now than a complete banjax later
Time to give Joe a chance in the midfield. If Partey is injured our other midfielders are too static and won’t move the ball forward. I’d like to see him paired with Xhaka or playing on the right just ahead of Xhaka with Saka on the left.
Xhaka is never anything more than a squad player, perhaps he even is better as a central defender. His lack of pace and non ability to handle pressure rules him out as a midfielder in the premiership.
Except we always look better when he is in the team because of his great forward passing range. He’s a key player for us.
Xhaka passes forwards as much as he passes backwards.
less than sideways
Now he is an Arsenal player.
These fucking 2 weeks are going to be long arent they.
Here is a customery Partey line to lighten things a little (except for supporters from Ghana, for whom its a double blow).
No Partey in Ghana line-up.
I’m sure others will come-up with better.
👍
They’re certainly not Ghana have a Partey.
As bad as the rest, of not worse…
* if
Hopefully it’s precautionary and only a week or two injury wise
Just from watching the highlights from last night’s game, there’s a plethora of things that makes me extremely frustrated with the way we played! What is Holding and Willian doing when defending against Barkley & Grealish before the opening goal?! It’s a full 30 second sequence where they just back off, don’t attempt a tackle and get pulled apart! How can Holding just stand there in front of Barkley and wait for him to make a move?! He’s right footed, he’s going on his right, defend that! So whenever we have a FK now on the corners of the box… Read more »
Blogs no hurry to release Arsecast. We’ve got two weeks of this shit
Can’t say I’m shedding any tears. I want him fit for Arsenal, end of story.
Gunner no Ghana go
Fuck these internationals
You mean thank fuck for these internationals…. 🤣
With partey in, time to switch to back 4 and unleash Tierney with his crosses from the left. Xhaka or ceballos can be added to the midfield. Tierney getting super wasted in back 3. Cant believe we play with a back 3 against astone villa at home.
At about 80 mins……….Arsenal did an “Arsenal “ counter attack. ( ie a relatively slow paced run towards opposition goal), and I commented to a co Arsenal supporter who was with me, about a Villa lad, literally bursting his bollocks sprinting back.
Sad thing is, he did that, and they were 2 up, possibly 3 at that time.
We won’t do that……..
Pointless international break. At a time when players need a break, we are just overworking them again and again. Very sad, but not surprising. Is Sap Bladder back in charge of Fifa?
Was he ever not in charge? Either in his own name or via the aptly named Infantino.
Good point hehe
Customary injury to key asset we just brought in, built like a shit brickhouse but welcome to Arsenal and injuries. OTOH we will need to find a better midfield still. I mentioned Partey is a good signing even if I felt we paid again way too high for him. But he is a pragmatic signing where Aouar would have been transformational. We need push higher up the pitch and more technical assets plus balance on righ and left. Aoaur with Ceballos pushing on either side of Granit IMO would have been a game changer for us moving to a 3… Read more »
What’s the situation with emre can and fekir?
Currently, I think we need to find a way to get Ceballos involved and go into a midfield 3 as quickly as possible. There was reason to have back 3 considering our abject performances defensively last season and personnel available but with Magalhaes and still paying the price even at back 3, clearly its not useful. We need more presence in midfield particularly in support of Laca up toip closer to the opponents box. Ceballos is the only asset (Beyond the promising but still green Willock) that can fulfill this. If we need two for security in Granit, Elneny or… Read more »
Yes, Arteta’s man-management is increasingly puzzling as the season continues. I can’t make any sense of why/how he handled Torreira the way he has. At least with Guendouzi and Özil, there is some narrative/explanation as to why they were frozen out. However, Ceballos hasn’t convinced me he is the magic solution to the team creating more chance and in turn scoring more goals. I don’t remember most of the game after Villa scored their second, but I don’t remember a moment where his passing looked like it could create a opening. We need to have players in match-day squad who… Read more »
No Xhaka and we drop 3 goals. Partey alone clearly not the answer some people prefer to imagine. IMO we need to play BOTH Xhaka and Partey but also have Ceballos higher. Go to back 2 let either of Partey or Xhaka hover around the middle when we attack with need to drop into defensive line with Cbacks when ball is over turned. The other can venture forward more in turn and Ceballos needs to be between the lines free role closer to release Laca who is still better in the box than Auba and who is still scoring more… Read more »
