Arsenal have confirmed the £1m signing of 19-year-old defender Omar Rekik from Hertha Berlin.
Capped by Holland at under-18 level and Tunisia at under-21s, the centre-back joins the Gunners after a nomadic six years which has also included stints at Feyenoord, Manchester City, PSV Eindhoven and Marseille.
We had hoped to get a deal done for the youngster in the summer but we couldn’t get the paperwork done in time. Omar’s older brother, Karim, departed Hertha in the summer transfer window, sealing a €15 million move to Sevilla.
We’re expecting Rekik to bolster the under-23s at a time when several of our Academy youngsters have gone out on loan. He started training with them earlier this week.
