Arsenal Women friendly confirmed at Emirates Stadium

As reported earlier this summer on Arseblog News, Arsenal Women will play Chelsea Women at Emirates Stadium on Sunday, 1st August at 12.15pm. The game will take place shortly before the men’s teams play one another as part of the Mind Series, a three-way friendly series between Arsenal, Chelsea and Sp*rs.

At the moment, it looks as though tickets are only on sale to those with a men’s membership with the website indicating there will be no general sale for these games, which are set to be reduced capacity. Tickets are currently on sale to Gold and Platinum members, with sale to silver and red members later in the week. There is no word yet on whether women’s members will have the opportunity to buy tickets.

Arseblog News also understands that the women will play against Sp*rs Women a week later at the Tottenham Toilet Bowl Arena, shortly before the men’s teams play one another.

Both matches will likely feature depleted teams due to the level of participation in the Olympic games, which will still be going on on August 1st. The Gunners have Lotte Wubben-Moy, Leah Williamson, Mana Iwabuchi, Kim Little, Vivianne Miedema, Steph Catley, Nikita Parris, Lydia Williams and Caitlin Foord representing their countries in Tokyo.

Arsenal’s season begins on August 18th with a Champions League qualifier against Okzhetpez of Kazakhstan in the Saipan Stadium in Moscow. If they win that, they will play the winners of PSV Eindhoven and CSKA Moskva at the same venue on 21st August.

UPDATE: Am told Arsenal Women members will receive an email shortly letting them know how they can buy tickets for the Chelsea friendly.

FURTHER UPDATE: Now confirmed that Arsenal Women will play Sp*rs Women at the Tottenham Toilet Bowl on Sunday, 8th August at 4.45pm, after the men’s teams play one another. Tickets will only be available to Sp*rs members.

Any idea when the womens memberships can be renewed, Tim?

Tim Stillman

Not as yet, I’m afraid.

Regarding tickets for women’s members, the piece on the website says “Arsenal Women’s members will shortly receive an email detailing how tickets can be purchased.”

This is a good start. Hopefully some of the Champions League games will be played here this season. Now is as good a time as ever, especially when you consider that the men’s side will be playing considerably less football this season.

I’d rather CL games be played at Meadow Park whilst there are still international travel restrictions in place. We might have to face Lyon, Wolfsburg or Barcelona but unless they can take up a full allocation of tickets the Emirates will appear empty and lacking in atmosphere.
Save the Emirates matches for the derbys vs Spuds and Chelsea and play to 30,000 or 40,000.

Daniel

Gonna be very odd teams we might see though, 9 from Arsenal, 11 from Chelsea at the Olympics
