Transfer round-up: Kolasinac, Martinez, Guimaraes, Hoppe…and more

Arsenal have three signings in the bag but there’s still lots of work to do in the remaining 32 days of the transfer window.

Here’s our latest gossip round-up.

Sead Kolasinac

According to Turkish sources, Fenerbahce, who have already been linked with Cedric Soares, are keeping tabs on Sead amid suggestions he’s angling for his Arsenal contract to be terminated prematurely. Perhaps Mesut needs a body guard? After signing Nuno Tavares as back-up to Kieran Tierney, it’s pretty obvious that the left-back doesn’t have a future at the Emirates but whether we’re ready to call it quits without looking for a transfer fee remains to be seen.

Lautaro Martinez

The Athletic claims Arsenal have been alerted to the availability of the Argentina international during Hector Bellerin-related talks with the Serie A champions. The Gunners are tempted by the chance to sign the 23-year-old striker at a doable price with Inter trying to raise funds this summer. Alex Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah would likely have to make way for any such deal to proceed. In response, Sport Mediaset have already suggested Martinez won’t be interested in a move to England if Champions League football isn’t on offer. At least we can tell him we’re not in the Europa Conference League…

Bruno Guimarães

Several sources, including Goal.com and Brazilian sites Lance and Globo Esporte, say Arsenal have made contact with the Lyon midfielder. Given Granit Xhaka appears to be staying at Arsenal, it’s questionable whether we’re still looking at the 23-year-old but he has been on our radar for a while; we reported on interest 18 months ago when he was at Athletico Paranaense.

Lewis Leigh

Football.London reports we’re one of a number of Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Preston’s 17-year-old midfielder Lewis Leigh. Once on the books at Liverpool, he’s been part of the Lilywhites’ first team squad during pre-season and would be a candidate to strengthen our youth ranks.

Harry Clarke

Our 20-year-old midfielder is on the verge of joining Ross County on loan for the season after undergoing a medical last week. He appeared for the Arsenal first team against Hibs a couple of weeks ago and will move north of the border off the back of a year with Oldham. We’re expecting confirmation in the next couple of days.

Matthew Hoppe

US reporter Grant Wahla man who puts his jeans in the freezer – says Everton and Arsenal are eyeing a move for the 20-year-old USA striker after his impressive debut campaign in the Bundesliga. Hoppe scored six goals in 22 appearances for Schalke – including a hat-trick to help end a long winless run – but is likely to be sold as a result of his club’s relegation. He’s currently performing well for the USMNT at the Gold Cup with a goal and an assist in 4 appearances. Do we need another 20-year-old American striker? It seems a bit greedy.

Sergino Dest

On the subject of Americans abroad, ESPN report that Barcelona’s Sergino Dest has rejected approaches from a number of clubs, including Arsenal. It makes it very easy to go high on the poo-o-meter.

At least one of those must be an anagram

Indiegooner

Nice Sad Koalas – that was easy 😉

Kosballs

At least one of them can hoppe

UzesGooner

We’re gonna have to start putting players on Ebay I think….🙄….GUIMARÃESwould be sensational

karl

They’re waiting for a free listing day.

Can someone who watches Ligue 1/Lyon give a summary of Bruno G? Twitter seems mad excited about him and his stats look great, but I’ve never seen him play and his YouTube highlights (lol) look … average at best. he seems like he carries the ball well and is extremely forward thinking but, would like to know more from someone who really knows.

Mentalista

Been watching him at the Olympics, so not that many games to judge but he’s been decent. Makes the game tick. Doesn’t seem to ever put a foot wrong. Wins a lot of duels on and off the ball. Reminds me of Arteta in his game. Would be very welcome.

Jules

Would you say he’s an *improvement* on Xhaka? Xhaka is, in my opinion at least, a properly solid player with his fair share of pluses. (Though I do agree that we need a better partner for partey) For Bruno to be an immediate improvement as well as a future star he must be a pretty solid talent. Is he that good?? Trying to figure out how chuffed to be that we might sign him

UzesGooner

Bruno is much more mobile and can pick a raking fwd pass quickly….definitely makes the game tick. I’d much rather be spending £30m on him than Ramsdale!! If those rumours are true, it’s insane… we should just get someone decent on loan (like Areola who just went to West Ham) and worry about the keeper situation next year.

Goonshow

Go do the deal Gabi!!!

Teta's cult of personality

So what type of player is he? E.g. Is he a playmaker?

Gift Onluckuni

Martinez for £70 million must be world class,! Another Martinez producing world class performances already at the club, some couldn’t see it!

Don't Dada

4 right backs (if you count AMN), 3 left backs, 4 CBS. 11 players for just 4 spots in a year with no europe. Add the likes of Torreira, Nelson, Willian. At this rate we will have another registration issue like that of Sokratis and Ozil.

Vonnie

The club should already have told players like Kolasinac, Torreira and Willian that they won’t be registered and need to find another club. Probably add Soares to the list.

Vaibhav

I believe this would have been already told to them long back to resolve their positions. Unless they intend to enjoy the days in London without playing, I believe they will move on.

Walter White

Please to see Martinez aged backwards. It’s time to bring him home again

Mentalista

For a brief moment I thought this would be about us activating a buy back clause.

Andy

With the poo ratings going into overdrive, is it really worth the effort of writing and posting the transfer round up?

sp0re

I enjoy these rumor roundups. Ardeblog is my one-stop-shop for Arsenal news. So even if some (or most) of the moves are unlikely, it’s always nice to see what’s floating around and get blogs take on things!

DPK

‘Pretty obvious that the left-back doesn’t have a future at the Emirates but whether we’re ready to call it quits without looking for a transfer fee remains to be seen.’

If Kola is willing to terminate his contract without a pay off this is an absolute no brainer. Just do it.

RistoJ

eerrr where does it say Kolasinac is willing to forfeit his contract without pay?

DPK

Arseblogger was suggesting we may try to hold out for a transfer fee. I never said Kola was willing, merely arguing that if he was, holding out for a transfer fee would be madness. imho obviously

RistoJ

I think Kolasinac is going to do ‘Ozil’ and force Arsenal to compensate him if they want to get him off the books.

Teta's cult of personality

I looked into this and it turns out it is legally possible even if it’s an option Kolasinac is very unlikely to take. —————————————————————————————————— According to Article 15(1) of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, “an established professional who has, in the course of the season, appeared in fewer than ten per cent of the official matches in which his club has been involved may terminate his contract prematurely on the ground of sporting just cause”… “The existence of sporting just cause shall be established on a case-by-case basis. In such a case, sporting sanctions shall… Read more »

Why would Kolasinac wave good bye to a years salary, which is around £6m?

Perry Groves Tips

Only a single member of the senior squad mentioned, Kolasinac, as a potential sale (or possibly a contract termination). Yes, there’s still August to get players sold but we don’t appear to be close to many (any?) moving out at present. They may be like buses – you wait for one for sometime then several come at once – but I hope that at least as much effort is going into potential sales as seems to have gone into the purchase of the three senior squad players to date.

Re Central midfield and people losing their shit about the Xhaka news. We have several midfielders we have to move on, but it won’t be practical or sensible to get rid of all of them at once. Xhaka, Elneny, AMN, Willock, Torreira. At least 3 should go, but who goes will depend on what money we can get for them. If Xhaka stays as 3rd choice cm for a season this is not a bad outcome considering we’ll lose Partey half way through. I am certain tthere will be a signing there, and when added to Partey, Xhaka, and Albert… Read more »

Perry Groves Tips

Yes, but we need with a month to go before the window closes to be getting very close to selling one/some of them, shouldn’t we? While carefully retaining any sh*t, the Xhaka “saga” is perhaps a pointer here – a great deal of speculation about a transfer over weeks and weeks (and weeks) – but, apparently, no cigar at the end of it. You say “at least 3 (midfielders) should go” and you’re absolutely right but, at present, there doesn’t appear to be much, if any, “movement” on any of them, unless I’ve missed something. That could change, and I… Read more »

Eric Blair

Sorry, I don’t understand your point. We don’t know all the ins and outs of the transfer business at the club but Xhaka and Willock do appear to have been close to leaving, and Torreira and AMN linked to other clubs. It’s a buyer’s market, and unfortunately we can’t buy until we sell because we have a bloated squad. It would be better to just accept this and the fact that it will go until the end of the transfer window, than get your knickers in a twist that we haven’t magically found clubs for all the players we think… Read more »

Perry Groves Tips

My point is this. I understood the aim of this window was to reduce squad numbers to accommodate: 1) our own younger, talented, players whose progress may have been hampered because they couldn’t get the necessary playing time, particularly as there is no European competition as an outlet now; and 2) also to introduce new, younger, players, from outside where there was no home grown alternative ready who would increase the quality of the squad and, crucially, retain sell-on value if necessary. So far, and I appreciate fully there’s still a month to go, I think we’ve made good progress… Read more »

Fair enough, I don’t think many Arsenal fans would disagree about what needs to happen with the squad.

I guess I would just quote a wise person’s words about how many parties it takes for a transfer to go through and to judge them at the end of the window. And that maybe they’ll have a little surprise for us.

prince onyuylo

Martinez looked likely to join Barca earlier this season although I have no idea how they could have afforded him with the financial crisis they are in. They saw him as Suarez’s heir apparent. He has that wonderful South American street footballer spirit about him a real fighter and good technical skills. He looked great alongside the big man Lukaku last season- a type of player we have packed since Giroud’s departure. I’m sure he could play well off the wings not sure as the no9 to hold the ball up but he could press ferociously from that position.

Teta's cult of personality

a type of player we have packed since Giroud’s departure

Crazy how a single mis-typed letter gives that sentence the complete opposite meaning.

Like yourself, I wonder how Martinez will do in a 1 striker formation.

prince onyuylo

Apologies for my error in spelling, English is my second language but on this occasion my small keys on my device was to blame or possibly the predictive keyboard which annoyingly changes some of my words as I type- I’m sure you know I meant lacked.
Inter were great to watch last season, it’s rare to see two strikers playing up front together these days, they were both at the top of their game last season.

Teta's cult of personality

Please don’t apologise. I make mistakes while typing all the time. I was just pointing out a funny coincidence😁. I am aware you meant lacked

Sorry if my reply came across differently than I expected.

If being unable to offload Granit and giving him a new contract is the reason we don’t sign a first team midfielder to pair Partey… GOOBEL GAABEL GOOBEL GAABEL EDUTETA GOOBELGAABEL

Gabi will bring Bruno back from Tokyo as his own personal souvenir.

Who is back at the Emirates tomorrow?

Vonnie

Me!

Merlin’s Panini

Martinez would be a good signing. Seems some people are saying it’s on and others that he won’t want to come.
We should nab him before Chelsea United or City realise they’re not getting Haaland, but we must move on at least one to make way.
Someone must be interested in Laca. He’s not on completely astronomical wages, neither is Eddie.

UzesGooner

Laca to Lyon perhaps on loan with obligation to buy, as makeweight for Bruno? We’d maybe have to subsidise his wages for next season until his contract runs out. Need to start making some deals soon as they take so long to go through……..

Teta's cult of personality

I looked up this Lewis Leigh lad. Is it me or does he look like he could Ben White’s younger brother?
