Report: Crystal Palace want Nketiah

Eddie Nketiah may be sidelined by an ankle injury but there’s still a high chance he could leave Arsenal before the transfer window closes next week.

Out of contract at the Emirates in June, the Gunners have tried to persuade the England under-21 international to sign a new deal with a view to sending him out on loan to gain further senior experience.

As things stand, Eddie isn’t overly tempted by that scenario – fair enough, really – so Mikel Arteta will begrudgingly sanction a transfer if someone matches our ambitious £20 million valuation.

According to The Athletic (£), Crystal Palace are first in the queue but their offer of £10 million falls some way short of what we’re after. David Ornstein claims a German club are waving a similar wad of cash.

Given it’s not in our interest to let Nketiah leave for free at the end of the season, we imagine achievable performance-based add-ons and a sell-on clause could grease the wheels if necessary.

Nketiah is one of a raft of fringe players Arsenal could offload in the coming days. Lucas Torreira, Sead Kolasinac (linked with Fenerbahce), Reiss Nelson, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Hector Bellerin and Willian are also on the lookout for new clubs.

Unpopular opinion: Eddie has impressed me more than Auba, Laca or Balogun in terms of leading the line right now.

Seems to buzz about, make runs in the channels & has a determination to arrive in the box, while his hold up play is improving. Dare I say it at times when he’s looked confident, he looks like he’s got a bit about him and is fairly tidy.

It’s a shame the fanbase doesn’t rate him. Hope he can flourish if and when he leaves.

The G

I agree with you. I see something in him too. However losing him for free is the worst if we have no plans for him.

Reiss Neverseen vs DicTetaBall

Eddie’s senior career at Arsenal couldn’t have come at a worse time.

Two senior strikers ahead of him. Record low number of chances created and a manager desperate to keep his job. He’s obviously not rated by most fans anymore but he still has a respectable goals to minutes ratio for a young striker.

13G/1A in 2520 minutes (28 full 90 min matches) of senior football at Arsenal. 5 of those goals were game-changing (either won or tied the match result).

Giuseppe Hovno

13 goals in the equivalent of 28 full matches is a damn fine record

UzesGooner

Go back to Brighton and offer part exchange towards BISSOUMA !!

karl

It’s hard to not think we bought the wrong Brighton player.

UzesGooner

I think White will be good but Bissouma is like the next Kante

A Different George

I don’t think so, but if he turns out that good, you can be sure he will be playing for one of Chelsea, Man City, or Man United within a year. Like Kante. Like Mahrez. Like Van Dijk (okay, Liverpool got in somehow).

ChickPEA

I like Bissouma, but I think purchasing Lokonga instead looks like a clever move as he is younger, much cheaper, not going to AFCON in January and seems to have leadership qualities which help him settle in.

Therefore, I might be wrong but I don’t see us going for Bissouma now, rather prioritising a striker or a right-back – which I’m fine with.

UzesGooner

Yeah, we definitely won’t but I’d still love him in the mix. I don’t think he plays for his national team after a falling out with them.

Yeah RB is an emergency, Cedric is woeful.

Andy

i like lokonga too but they are v different players. bissouma seems to me the guy we are missing – the one who sits there and protects the defence and keeps the ball moving quickly. we have nobody else in the squad who seems to want to do that job right now other than elneny and he is at best a reliable backup. i thought this was why we signed partey tbh. at moment i would swap him for bissouma in a heartbeat.

carlton

You guys should get over Bissouma, that dude cracking up on the field laughing at us failing to qualify for the Champions League should preclude him putting on our famous shirt. Not the sort of character I would want, no doubt at an unveiling he would have the brass neck to say he was a boyhood Arsenal fan!

Reiss Neverseen vs DicTetaBall

Really?! What season was this and Is there a video? I need to see this

carlton

Yes there’s a video, just Google ‘Bissouma laughing Vs arsenal’ it was May 2019 Monreal is on the ground dejected, and Bissouma is cackling away to himself as he surveys our Spanish defender and a deflated Emirates. There’s several articles and videos if you Google it ‘Bissouma laughing Vs Arsenal’.

Reiss Neverseen vs DicTetaBall

Thanks

Tucker

If we got anywhere near £20m for him I’d be staggered.

That said, if he was at Liverpool, if they got any less than £25m for him I’d be equally surprised.

Which is a bit sad really

Rob67

£10 million with carefully structured add ons, is as good as it will get for EN and AM-N – and RN.

More interesting, will be what we achieve for any possible sale on Lacazette and Auba’ ; and who we can then bring in ?

El Mintero

Not so with Ainsley. Capped at senior level. And We shouldn’t be selling him.

ChickPEA

It seems a bit low given he remains a young and talented English striker, but I guess leverage is not really on our side right now.

215Arse

CP offered £12 million earlier in the window, and now they’re offering 10. We hold out on selling Xhaka over a couple million €, and then give him an extension. We sell Martinez for 20 and buy a far inferior keeper in Ramsdale for 30.

Fast forward two years when this whole “project” goes tits up, it’ll be a mass exodus. Saka, ESR, Tierney, etc. will want out. Then we’ll have to spend triple of what we’re spending now just to stay in the PL.

Appels&Pere

Oh lord, the Martinez card again. Yawn.

Sheldon

10 million is a joke. How many better strikers are there in his age group? He’ll be worth 50mil when he comes of age. He looked powerful in preseason.

215Arse

He’s got one year remaining on his contract and is refusing to sign a new deal. Other than CP, nobody is after him. Arsenal are magical at making a mess of transfers, both in and out.

turcofeo

He’s also injured right now.

Djouroureallylikeit

50M? lol

loose_cannon

£20-25m would be the going rate ordinarily but players in the last year of their contract always go for less than market value.

SarcasmB0T

Sell.

It’s not hard. If you fuck up selling a player in time, you’ll have to sell for what is offered.

Don’t fuck up and sell players in time.

It’ll be a shame to see Maitland-Niles leave but when you’re the 5th choice CM, the 4th choice right-back, and the 3rd choice left-back, nobody can blame him for wanting a new challenge.

I’d like to see him start in the League Cup on Wednesday though.

Joe

given what we’ve seen from cedric and chambo in the last 2 games, he ought to be 1st choice rb.

Merlin’s Panini

I’d stick in some kind of buy back/first refusal if that’s legal.
He could yet blossom into a really good striker but he needs the game time we perhaps can’t afford to risk with him. He did look very sharp in pre-season though and he’s no less deserving of a chance than anyone else.
Still, I expect he’ll go.

Spanish Gooner

Nketiah is another player that we have massively mismanaged. He was doing fine at Leeds despite not being their first choice starter (Bielsa never puts new signings straight into the first XI) and could have stayed a full season, got promoted, and probably guaranteed a move to a premier league team last summer. Instead, we called him back then rejected a move to the Bundesliga at the last minute, before basically never playing him for the rest of the season. We then repeated the trick this year and asted another season of his career on the bench, despite interest from… Read more »

Good on him for trying to find a deal that will help his career. Personally, I hope Eddie can develop in Germany and improve technically. Wishing him luck.

Ben

TBH, I’d keep him. I think he’s only beginning to come into his own. Only downside is he could leave on a free if he doesn’t agree to a new contract. In that case, selling may be the only option.

MojoWillneny

Nketiah’s a good player, a young Premier League striker who will score goals. He is a good fit for Palace and Viera. If Brewster is worth 15m, then 20m is absolutely the correct opening price for Nketiah. It’s the right move for both clubs and for the player. Hate to see our Hale End kids leave the club but that’s football. I want them to have good careers in the Premier League if it can’t be at Arsenal.
