Cirjan’s return will give Arsenal U23s a boost

Catalin Cirjan has yet to play this season but the talented youngster is closing in on a return to action.

The Romanian youth international is back at London Colney and will hope to feature for Arsenal’s U23 side soon.

The U23s can already call upon some impressive creative talents, such as Charlie Patino and Salah-Eddine, and Cirjan is set to provide further depth in that department.

Although he is also capable of playing out wide, it seems likely that Cirjan will be deployed in one of the two central midfield berths for Kevin Betsy’s side, with the U23s coach often using a system that doesn’t use a number ten.

Cirjan’s first season at Arsenal was very impressive, with the youngster producing some encouraging performances for the club’s U18 side.

However, last season was considerably more difficult as he didn’t receive as many opportunities as expected for the U23s and was often played in different positions.

After a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the 18-year-old is ready to push on and assert himself as one of the key players for the U23s.

That certainly won’t be an easy task, but at his best Cirjan is capable of making a major impact with his technical ability and fine passes, while he also relishes pushing forward to support the attack.

The U23s have most performed well of late, last weekend’s defeat to Liverpool aside, but they could do with further options and Cirjan will certainly help in that regard.
