Saka: The boss told us not to let them frustrate us

Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka scored the goals as Arsenal beat Newcastle 2-0 at the Emirates this afternoon.

Here’s what they had to say to BT Sport afterwards.

It was a comfortable win, but you had to wait.

Saka: Yeah, we had to be patient, they defended really well and made it difficult for us in the first half. The boss told us at half-time to not let them frustrate us, we listened to that, got the goals and could have got more.

A fantastic passing move for the goal

Saka: Yeah, it was. I came over to the left, we played a few passes, I found myself in and just went for goal and scored!

Martinelli scoring with his second touch after coming on?

Martinelli: I don’t remember to be fair. But I’m so happy with the goal and so happy with the victory.

As I always say if I play two, five, ten minutes, I’m always ready to play, to show something to the manager, the team and the fans.

First half chances missed. Was the message keep going?

Saka: Yeah, keep going, dealing with the deep block, so keep moving the ball fast and the chances will come and we took them so it’s a good day for us.

On everyone in the squad contributing

Martinelli: This victory was everyone, not just me and B who scored the goals, but the staff, the fans, everyone.

Great goals by both of them.

So happy to have them both, hopefully for a good many years.

Onwards and upwards. We are the Arsenal!!!

Snc

Great win. Happy for Martinelli. We need more for run off the ball in attack to create space for opportunities.

Cliff Bastin

Hope Saka’s groin is ok.

“Me and B”
Nicknames now huh? Team bonding.

Tankard Gooner

That Gabi goal *all kinds of unmentionable kisses*
But maybe we can see why he’s not exactly pushing for a starting position just yet. His control on the first touch still needs more composure than anything else. He’s got the pace he’s got the legs, he’s got the minerals to play it around whoever is marking him. He just needs to be a little more composed about coming on to the ball in the last 8 10 yards.

What minerals does he have?
Hr was pretty composed for the goal.

Once a gunner

I guessed he is talking about the one on one chance

Tankard Gooner

Indeed I was.

Goo-nerd

I mean, he delivered the goods when our veteran 250k per week captain didn’t, so I’m happy for him to play. What’s more interesting is he got the nod over Pepe.

Matthinc

Yeah, that is interesting. I wonder if Pepe is a busted flush now. The way Arteta talks about Gabi training, and his attitude. Perhaps he doesn’t see it from Pepe, and has kind of decided to bring through the rawer, hungrier youngsters.

I really like Pepe and kind of wish he could get a run of games but he is so much less disciplined and I reckon Arteta doesn’t like that.

Naked Cygan

What about his injury? Will he be fit for Thursday?

Tony OReilly

I think I love martinelli

Once a gunner

Good to bet on your team and have great gain

Chris

Martinelli eh? What an amazing attitude, probably deserves a start against Man U if Saka isn’t 100%
