Report: Black Cats to benefit from Burnley’s Ballard balls-up

According to various reports, Daniel Ballard has undertaken a medical at Sunderland and should sign a contract at the Stadium of Light in the next 24 hours.

The deal with the Black Cats comes just four days after a proposed move to Burnley collapsed at the last minute*.

Newly promoted to the Championship, Alex Neil’s side have done well to beat off stiff competition from several other suitors including Sheffield United.

Blackpool and Millwall, for whom Ballard has played on loan in the last two seasons, were also hopeful of a reunion with the 22-year-old.

Burnley were rumoured to be willing to pay £2 million so we’re assuming Sunderland are stumping up a similar fee.

Whether the Gunners, who rate Ballard highly, have been able to slip in a clause allowing us to match any future bids remains unclear. Apparently, that was on the cards when we were dealing with the Clarets.

* We have no idea if they ballsed up the deal, but we’re not going to let the truth get in the way of alliteration.

Well, that pretty much pays for Marquinhos.

Best of luck Daniel! ❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️

Expected a comment a bit more alliterative, Johnny. But you get a pass today because of Boca Juniors.

Heavenly Chapecoense

I don’t know why but I am always sad when the kids from the academy leave the club.

Dan

Looking forward to seeing him In a Sunderland shirt he seems to be highly rated

% of future sale is the most profitable deal in those scenarios, lets say give them a 50% discount on the fee (1m, peanuts) for 40% of the future sale.
He plays well but not enought for Arsenal? A smaller prem club comes in and pays 10m, we end up with 4m.
He plays insanely good and we want him? we have 40% discount since 40% we pay is already ours
He flops we lose 1m

Gabigol

That structure would definitely benefit us. If he only stays at championship level then Sunderland get a decent fee. But if he is good enough quality potentially for European football then we have a good option.

In practise we rarely hear of such high percentages. But a club with very poor financial power in a good position would make sense if the player is guaranteed to perform

In Brazil it’s very common, it’s a way of clubs affording players they don’t have money to buy 100%

Why would Sunderland agree on those conditions?

PeteyB

Because they get a cheaper deal now and they still get 60% of any future fee. In that hypothetical scenario 6m is more valuable to a small club like Sunderland than the 4m kickback is to us.

In the meantime, Liverpool has reportedly knocked back an 11mil bid for Neco Williams on the back of a dozen decent championship games. How do they do it and keep doing it? It’s like they’re marketing geniuses that create hype around largely mediocre products that compels consumers to overpay for them and then leaves them largely disappointed, wondering why they spent over 20mil on Rhian Brewster. We need to learn this skill.

Spot on! Let’s be honest klopp as an eye for talent and he ain’t gonna let a decent prospect leave without good reason. I’ve noticed klopp creep around martinelli before and after some of our games no doubt trying to groom our gabi. You have to give them credit though they are masters at it. Take guendouzi for example they prob would have got at least 25 mill for him

Kareem Mohamed

Our management shot themselves in the foot with the handling of Guendouzi…

Liverpool did most their good selling before the pandemic. Arsenal got screwed with bad timing and bad business. Like one look at social media and you ain’t buying Mustafi, ozil, Socrates etc.
I think they sold minamino for good money this summer but only a few mill more than guenduzi and guenduzi had been exiled for 2 years. Mane has been in top 5 players in the world.

Liverpool is a brand.
I guess that we will also be able to sell for higher prices once we win few cups and CL..

**beat off stiff competition* is always quite enjoyable in an article as well

Burnley bastards burnt by Ballard bumrush.

Interesting the level of clubs that are going for him. He can still be a surprise at the top level like a Tyrone Mings if he keeps making this progress.
