Confirmed: Gabriel Martinelli signs new contract

Arsenal have confirmed that Gabriel Martinelli has signed a new long-term contract.

The Brazil international’s current deal ran until 2024 with the Gunners retaining an option to extend it by two further years.

The revised terms will see the player’s salary increase significantly and mean he’s contracted until 2027 at least. It’s believed we have the option to extend it by a further year, nearer the time.

Martinelli, 21, joined the Gunners from Ituano in 2019. Viewed as a hot prospect, the attacker surprised everyone with his immediate impact under Unai Emery and was rewarded with a new deal after his first season.

By that point, he was recovering from knee surgery and he didn’t reestablish himself in the Arsenal starting lineup until the second half of the 20/21 campaign.

He’s since become a regular and now has 111 appearances to his name. During that time he’s made 16 assists and scored 25 goals.

“We’re delighted Gabi has signed a new long-term contract,” said manager Mikel Arteta.

“Our supporters see his quality and energy every single time he puts on the shirt and he’s the same every day in training, with his hard work and positive values.

“Gabi is still very young, so we know there’s still much more to come from him and it’s great that we’ll be on this journey together. We’re now excited to continue to develop his huge talent and look forward to seeing him perform with Arsenal in the years to come.”

In a video confirming the news, Martinelli had this message for the fans:

“I was born a long, long way from north London but as soon as I got here, our supporters made me feel like one of them. It didn’t take me long to realise this place is about more than football. It’s about us, our heritage, our togetherness and our community spirit that you have to experience to understand. Day by day we make new memories together and feel the pride that comes from being a Gunner. I feel it every day. I feel it on the pitch. I feel walking down the streets when someone stops me to say, ‘You were class this weekend, mate.’ Thank you, Gunners, for making me feel like I’m at home. I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.”

You beauty. Get in.

Daveo

Wooooooooo! What a player he’s become. Big boost to get him locked in. Come on bukayo and Billy. hopefully they’re waiting outside the door for their turn to come in and use the club’s pen.

Yves

Oh wow, I didn’t see this coming.

Bishop

Nobody did

The good news just keeps coming

John

What a wonderful piece of news! Gabi Gabi Gabi 🙂
Now for Saka & Saliba to join his tribe!

Zet

There is no way Saka is going anywhere. If he does, he lose all my respect. Saliba is less expressive, but I feel he found his long term club and we should be 99 pct sure he will stay.

Anon

Saliba said he was really happy

He certainly looks happy

Excellent, get Saliba and Saka done as well and it will be pretty much a perfect season on the contract front, and possibly on the pitch.

Nzini

I like this guy’s tenacity. He is the type of guy I don’t get upset when he loses the ball.Reminds me of Alexis Sanchez before he started losing the ball for fun.

wrightstuff8

MASSIVE.

My God, what a speech from Gabi: made my eyes moistened with tears.
Continue to soar to greater heights, son. Congrats 👊🏾💪🏾👏🏾🙏🏾

Great to confirm he will stay, but this was the least urgent of the three, with a contract already until 2026 (with 2 year option). What I really want to see is Saliba and Saka committing and this team will be set for years to come..

Same here. You can’t win trophies if you can’t keep your best players – as, unfortunately, Arsenal have found in years gone by.

As you say, let’s hope the other two sign up soon as it would be a huge triple boost for the team and the club at just the right stage in the season.

TommyGun

The fact that we have pushed on this season has come at just the right time to convince our best talent that Arsenal is the place to be. Hopefully we get Saliba and Saka sorted ASAP. Great news on Martinelli, he is going to get better and better.

It’s very special to watch these incredible young players develop, particularly when they were signed for little or no fee. They have saved us inordinate amounts on transfer fees and that is money we can now plough into signing the top talent going… what a great time to be a Gooner.

Massive Boost

Boy Bastin

Good news, although it was widely trailed some days ago wasn’t it.

Hopefully, he’ll encourage the likes of Saka and Saliba to sign up fairly soon as well. We don’t want any potentially distracting “story” to develop because they haven’t (although I think both will).

Mark

Awesome news and great to have such a key player for us locked up. He will become a true superstar.

Dada

Martineli is very interesting. Not the most smoothest of players, his dribbling is chaotic yet he’s in my opinion the highest ceiling. I think once all. Major aspects of his game are ironed out we have a world beater

Ebo

What if Theo Walcott was much stronger and more powerfully built and tenacious as hell = Gabi Martinelli

And that’s just at 21! I feel like this kid is still going to get so much better

AndyM

Great news. His skills, speed and energy are a big part in how good we’re playing now.
And really nice statement from him. From the AON doc he comes across as a genuine guy so probably means every last word of it, which is a great sign for the club.

ArtetasForehead

He found the pen!
Now pass it to Saliba and Saka I think they are looking for it!!!!

HKGooner

Well said Gabi! Well done Gabi! Well deserved Gabi! COYG!!

Eric Blair

Great news and great sentiments.

Arkansas Gooner

Gabi just seems like a great kid with an incredible attitude. Plenty of talent to boot as well. Well deserved raise and extension, now c’mon Saka and Willo!

sAMa

It’s over a week since I heard this and you are just updating it now. You are way behind my bro.
