Lotte Wubben-Moy called into England squad for World Cup

Arsenal defender Lotte Wubben-Moy has been called into the England squad for this summer’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The Gunners centre-back was part of England’s Euro 2022 success last summer, albeit she did not get on the pitch during that tournament.

Wubben-Moy has been on the fringes of the Lionesses squad during this season but with Leah Williamson and Rafaelle suffering with injuries, Lotte clocked up the third highest amount of outfield minutes in the Arsenal squad this season.

Leah Williamson and Beth Mead miss out on the squad due to ACL injuries. Mead ruptured her ACL in November and the World Cup was always going to be a long shot for the Euros’ Golden Boot winner and Player of the Tournament. Williamson ruptured hers in April so there was never the faintest hope of her making it. Arsenal legend Jordan Nobbs, now at Aston Villa, also makes the squad having missed the 2019 tournament with a ruptured ACL.

England kick off their tournament on 22nd July against Haiti and will also play Denmark and China in their group. Wubben-Moy is the first Gunner to be confirmed to play in the tournament but the likes of Steph Catley, Caitlin Foord, Frida Maanum, Lia Walti, Sabrina D’Angelo, Katie McCabe, Noelle Maritz, Lina Hurtig, Stina Blackstenius, Victoria Pelova and Katherine Kuhl are all likely to join her.

Fun Gunner

Congratulations, Lotte. I hope you at least get some minutes on the pitch this time.

Heavenly Chapecoense

Hope she gets Lotte of chance to play.

Good grief. Alternatives must be poor

Nothing wrong with Lotte.
Best of luck to her.

Lotte has had a magnificent season for Arsenal.

Kennington Gunner

Strongly disagree with this opinion from Silentstan. Lotte has been great for Arsenal Women this season and great for the next generation of female footballers.

Little Cubby

Ahh so its you that puts a 👎 on everyone’s comment regardless?

Congratulations Lotte. Wiegman clearly values playing time so that will be in her favour. Congrats Jordan Nobbs too. Gutted for Meado and Williamson
