After months of speculation, Bukayo Saka’s new contract was officially announced by the club today.
The 21 year old put pen to paper on a four year deal, which will take him to 2027, and despite interest from other clubs – as you would expect for a player of his talent – he has committed his future to the Gunners.
He explained his reasons to the official Arsenal website, saying, “For me, it’s about achieving my personal ambitions – how much I push myself and demand from myself each game, week in, week out.
“Then I have all the right people around me in terms of family, and when I come to the training ground, my teammates, the coaching staff.
“I think I have everything I need to become the best player I can be, and that’s why I’m happy to stay here and be here for the future, because I really believe that we can achieve big things.”
Saka, with 14 goals and 11 assists to his name for Arsenal this season, drew warm praise from manager Mikel Arteta who said, “It’s great for the club that Bukayo has extended his contract. Retaining our best young talents is key to our continued progress and Bukayo represents such an important part of our squad now and for the future.
“As well as being a fantastic talent, Bukayo is a special person, he’s loved by us all and he is a credit to himself and his family for the hard work and commitment they have all made to get to this level today.
“Together with our supporters, we’re so looking forward to enjoying Bukayo’s continued development with us in the years to come.”
Saka went on to express his own pleasure at the new deal.
“I’m just really happy,” he said. “There’s been a lot of talking and it’s been a while, but I’m here now. I think this is the right club, the right place to make the next step.
“It’s a beautiful club – look where we are. Time is on our side. You can look at our team and a lot of the players are young.
“We’re hungry, and a lot of us haven’t won trophies at Arsenal so we want to achieve big things. If you watch the way we all speak, we want to win and we want to win here.”
This is fantastic. He’s going to get a proper rest this summer for the first time in ages too so expect a phenomenal season from him next year 🥳
Huge! Exceptional player.
Hopefully adding another forward allows us to rotate his position a little more as he definitely tailed off during the final 1/4 of the season. Summer rest should help too. Feels like we need a Giroud type forward to complete our forward line.
Now just tie down Saliba, get that forward, 2 top quality mids, and another young up-and-coming centre-half and we’re set. Easy.
Some stats that speak volumes for me
In the last 2 seasons Saka has started every game bar 2. Last season he did not score or assist in last ten games, this season he has only had one contribution in last 8 games.
Despite the fatigue, he still has a huge apetite for tracking back and winning the ball!
The mind and body is willing but tired by the end of the season, we just need to manage him a bit better through the season, ie have a reliable alternative at right wing (maybe Jesus if we get a new cf). This will become more acute next season with CL as he’ll want to play those games too.
You’re definitely going to win trophies with the Arsenal in the coming years. Congrats, Saka.
Another FA Cup?
FFS, have a day off.
I love this young man, like a son
He’s so much better than Son. Wash your mouth out!!!
(😉)
He’s got everything but a day off! Sort that out this summer please edu
It would have been nice to beat Forest and extend the title race by one day, but this is a lot better.
The best signing of the summer in my opinion.
Expecting a trophy this season, got a great contract extension.
You did expect a trophy from the beginning of the season?
GET. IN.
How would you replace him? How much would it cost in this market? A Home-Grown player, 21, Starter for England, one of the best prospects in the League. £150m, more? And who with, realistically? Best possible news for Arsenal.
There is only one Saka and for us he is priceless.
Arteta’s hair really does look like Lego.
Finally! we needed some good news. Just need Saliba to do the same.
Is it just me or has Saka looked more and more muscular as the seasons gone on. Hes built like a mini tank now and I love it.
Someone must be chopping an onion round here 🥲
someone knows watch watch is Saka wearing?
Rolex (I think the rose gold Daytona) with black rubber strap
Not many folks into horology I am guessing by the down votes.
I predict he will be an Arsenal captain one day.
So, that’s:
Gabriel ✅
Gabriel Martinelli ✅
Eddie ✅
Ramsdale ✅
Saka ✅
We now need;
Saliba 🔴
White 🔴
Odegaard 🔴
Nelson 🔴
Balogun 🔴
I’d love to see Balogun get his chance for us. He’s smashed Ligue 1.
Yep. I keep saying that he could save us an absolute fortune in the transfer market. We could have a worldie on our hands here – and it’s a gamble I would much rather we take than have him start smashing it up elsewhere. Would be extremely foolish for the club to let him go. But, such is our naively pathetic track record in these sort of scenarios, we never ever seem to learn (this by the way, for all those who think I’m having a indulgent pop at Edu, stretches way way back to our inability to hold onto… Read more »
I think we’d all love to keep him but he seems intent on leaving. A shame if he does, I don’t think Jesus is untouchable at all. If he was willing to come in as our 2nd striker there’s a very strong chance he’d be #1 by the end of next season. I hope the club are stressing this to him if they are trying to keep him.
