Kaylan Marckese returns to Arsenal Women from Bristol City loan

Arsenal Women’s American goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese has returned to the club from her loan spell at Bristol City due to injury. Marckese signed for the Gunners from FC Koge in the summer of 2022 and was loaned out to Bristol City for this season.

However, Marckese obtained a knee injury early in her spell with the Robins and has undergone surgery. A statement on the Bristol City website read, “Kaylan Marckese has returned to Arsenal following an injury sustained earlier in the season.

“The goalkeeper, who joined on loan from the Gunners ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, suffered a tear to her anterior cruciate ligament against Aston Villa in November.

“Following successful surgery, Marckese will complete her rehabilitation with her parent club. We wish Kaylan all the best for the future and thank her for her efforts with Bristol City.”

Arsenal have been continuously linked with a move for Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps, who they made a bid for in the summer. Arseblog News understands that interest cooled some time ago and there have not been plans to re-ignite that interest in January.

Arsenal are expected to add USWNT full-back Emily Fox during this window but there will need to be outgoings too since Arsenal are at the 25 player squad limit for the season, with Brazilian winger Gio not registered due to a lack of room in the squad list.

An additional consideration for Arsenal is that Canadian goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo could go to the Gold Cup with Canada in February, potentially leaving Arsenal without senior back-up to first-choice Manu Zinsberger. The squad are currently in Portugal for a training camp ahead of next weekend’s FA Cup fourth round tie at home to Watford.

If Emily Fox is fit to play I don’t see we have many options but to swap her registration for Lina Hurtig. We desparately need bolstering defensively with Leah, Laura and Teyah all out long term and Hurtig is injured more often than not in an area of the field where we have sufficient cover.

Still mystifying why we registered Laura and Teyah as neither will be fit to play until next season. Unless Teyah had to be listed to meet some “homegrown” quota regulation.

Who knows the thinking in the back room? Jonas has stated he is expecting ins and outs (plural) this window. We are all aware that we need some ins but then who do we push out? There’s not too many of the 25 where an upgrade is instantly evident.

As for keepers, Ellie Roebuck could be getting itchy feet and I believe she is free this summer. She will always be a lot younger than Mary Earps and has almost as much top match experience! We could do worse!

Thanks for the updates! Who’s seen Emily Fox play? Wikipedia suggests a short full-back with a front-foot, interception-heavy style.

Saw her play in the world cup. I remember being very impressed, so much so, I had to look her up as I had not heard of her before.
