Dates confirmed for Bayern Munich double-header

UEFA have confirmed the dates for Arsenal’s Champions League quarter-final games with Bayern Munich.

Having been drawn first, the Gunners will host the German side in the first leg at the Emirates on Tuesday, April 9th.

The second leg in Munich takes place on Wednesday, April 17th. Both ties kick off at 20.00 UK time.

Mikel Arteta’s side will have a small advantage at home due to a UEFA ban on Bayern Munich supporters attending, so the 60,000+ crowd that night will be all Gooners.

Meanwhile, the Premier League clash with Aston Villa, originally scheduled for April 13th at 17.30, will now be moved to Sunday the 14th after Unai Emery’s side progressed in the Europa League this week.

It’s believed a 16.30 kick off time is marked for this one, but we await official confirmation of that change at the time of writing.

In that case, we really need to pull out all the stops needed to excersise all our demons and slap Bayern’s backside at our home as we will only have 3 days until 2nd leg after the villa match which will be tougher as we will be fighting for all 3 points in the prem that Sunday.
Easier said than done, but we can do this.

Bayern are no longer the generational juggernauts they were last time we faced them with prime Lahm, Alaba, Robben, Lewandowski and the rest, but this is still a tough, tough test. They have the most potent offense of any team in Europe. Any. Team. Kane and Sane are the top winger/striker duo around right now and if you add Musiala, that’s the top front 3 in the world by some distance. Fortunately for us, they can be had at the other end. Their last game with Leverkusen or even the first 70 minutes against Galatasaray is the blueprint: pin them… Read more »

That Serge Gnabry’s not half bad either.

Glad we are back in the QFs of the CL! Just hope it doesn’t affect our PL campaign.

At least it will be one of the most fantastic atmosphere at home given no away fans!

Ebo

The load will be challenging but I think it can also positively affect our Premier League campaign. Imagine having lost to Porto and going to Man City with the pressure that this is the only thing we still have to play for, that would make anyone tight. I’d rather have a slightly more tired/rotated squad but with the confidence that we’re a top 8 team in Europe again and are still gunning for two major trophies.

PeteyB

I think it would be rather classy if those bonus away tickets could be distributed via Arsenal Foundation etc. at a heavy discount. Local schools, frontline workers. Whoever seems deserving. It’s all gonna be bonus/unexpected revenue in any case.

Ealing

Nice gesture but not bonus, extra revenue. the away supporters pay for their tickets

PeteyB

Well, of course they do. Ha. I’m gonna put that down to lack of sleep!
Still it would be a nice thing to do.
Are UCL away tickets price capped?

Johnny 4 Hats

April is going to be crazy. I don’t think we’ll come through it if we don’t get players back and quick. T5, Tomi, Vieira, Zinchenko, Timber, Jesus, Martinelli… (am I forgetting someone?) all need to get fit quick and help us out in April. The depth is there. We can’t blame depth. But the injuries are crazy. Of course, if you’re Jurgen Klopp the entire media write articles every other minute about how unfair it is that they’ve been blighted by injury. We don’t have that because everyone fucking hates us. We are either lucky or bottle jobs. But we… Read more »

wrightstuff8

I think he means match fit. Which none of them are.

Jimster

Funny ESR (and Saka) helped keep Mikel his job 2 years ago, he must be doing something wrong, he needs to move on only got about 7 to10 years at the top🤞

Processinator

I wanted us to draw Bayern so that we can break the curse and thrash Bayern & their Harry Kane out of UCL.
Kane will hold the honors of not winning the Bundesliga with Bayern & getting knocked out by Arsenal!

Arsepedant

He’s a serial trophy dodger everywhere he goes. BM even got knocked out of their domestic cup by a third tier team.

MojoWillneny

“Where have you gone Emile and Nketiah, our Arsenal nation turns its lonely eyes to you…”. It’s a great draw. Bayern have great players but are they a better team than us, I don’t think so. Won’t be easy but we can beat them. The issue is fixture congestion. We cannot maximize outcomes in both competitions with just a 13-player rotation. To do anything in these competitions we’ll need a reliable 15 player rotation, at minimum. Tomiyasu, Zenchenko, (and hopefully Timber) in the back – Partey and ESR in the middle, and Nketiah and Nelson up top. If we get… Read more »

May be wrong but it appears Martinelli, Jesus, Odergaurd, Tomi and White for various reasons will not be on international duty, we then hope our other players return unscathed to play 3 prem games going into the Bayern one, lets hope Gabi doesn’t take out Buyako at Wembley injuring them both… a full squad is what we need going into Bayern games, after getting out of the group stage relatively comfortable, Porto an in form side and lets be honest we were happy to draw them made it a difficult tie for us to progress, so proud to see our… Read more »

Doghouse

So proud to see our name in the hat with the 8 other elite sides in the globally best football team competition, Miki is planning already like Russell Crowe in his film a Beautiful Mind.. smash Bayern home and away, pens win in semis v Real Madrid, then laying the ghost of our cheated loss v Barca..

Santi’s Phonebox

I would watch that movie.

Walleye

Pleased that we drew a team that plays. Preferred dortmund, but look forward to it.

There once was a fan named PeteyB, Whose kindness was quite a decree. He suggested with grace, To share tickets in space, For Arsenal’s home victory spree. Then Johnny 4 Hats chimed in, Listing players with a hopeful grin. Injuries took their toll, But he kept control, Dreaming of wins to begin. Ealing joined with updates precise, Clarifying who’s fit to entice. With ESR and the crew, Arsenal’s chances grew, As they aimed for victory’s device. But Processinator had a bold plan, To face Bayern Munich, a fan. To break the curse wide, And with pride, Arsenal ride, Kane’s hopes… Read more »
