“We could have scored more” – Trossard reacts to win at Wolves

Arsenal returned to the top of the table thanks to a 2-0 win over Wolves. Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard grabbed the goals at the end of each half as the Gunners drew a line under defeats to Aston Villa and Bayern Munich in gritty style.

After the game, Trossard faced questions from Sky Sports. Here’s what he had to say…

On a satisfying win…

Yeah, we’re really pleased with it. Obviously, we wanted that response. Like I said, after the week, and I think it’s a brilliant win. I think we controlled most of the game, and then it’s two great goals and another clean sheet, so we’re really pleased with it.

On what he made of the performance overall…

Like I said, I think we could have scored more goals, especially in the first half. We had some chances from the edge of the box but we were searching for that first goal and luckily it came with me and then after, I think we controlled it and tried to score the second one. Obviously, it came a bit late, but we’re really happy with it.

On his goal…

Not maybe the sweetest, but I knew I had a small amount of time to hit the ball and at the moment I see the ball come in front of me I had to use my toe as well to get it in and get it on target and it went in really nice. Obviously top bins so it’s really a great goal.

On the disappointment of losing to Villa and Bayern…

Obviously, it’s always tough when you lose games, especially after the run we had by winning so many games. And then it’s up to the boys to show great character and mentality. And I think we did that today. And all we can do is focus on ourselves and win our own games, and then we will see what happens.

On the work rate required from Arsenal’s wingers…

The boss wants everyone to sprint back when there’s a counter and he wants everyone to get involved in the defensive things and we showed that all over the pitch that everyone is so hungry to help the team, in the defensive line as well to win those second balls. I think it’s really important nowadays in football.

On scoring significant goals this season…

It’s always nice to score goals and especially in big moments. I’m just happy that I can help the team in those moments and that it helps us go forward. I’m really pleased with that.

On Arsenal returning to the top of the table…

It’s great, like I said we wanted this win, we needed a response, I think we did so let’s enjoy this one and look forward to the next game.

I appreciate Trossard, great value and a great signing. He does work hard and even when things don’t come off perfectly, with him he’s always capable of scoring from anywhere. His movement today was smart and he and Jesus do compliment each other well.

He is. Need like 3 deals of this ilk in different positions this summer. Players who are great off the bench and can hold their own when they start, and not expensive. Think that’s the next phase.

We got him cheap when you compare some of the fees paid out for Brighton players, even when things don’t come off for him he never hides and wants it more, coz he looks like he’s just woken up from a bender doesn’t mean he’s not awake to scoring important goals for us this season, great signing, top player.

They do say nice things about each other and their playing styles complement each other too.

I agree with all of that.

I do not want to bring up the game against Villa but he tracked back extremely well on one occasion in the first half and prevented a shot on target (I think with Gabi as the last man but under pressure). That epitomises Arteta’s philosophy on defending as a unit.

Even with Martinelli – the Kimmich header aside – his defensive contributions this season have almost been as important as his attacking threat in certain matches (today being one example).

Even if he looks like he’s just woken up he’s always awake to getting in the right areas, he’s scored some important goals for us this season, great signing.

in other words, “stop saying I only play well off the bench you numpties!”

and gotta love how he talks about having to use his toe to get it on target, feels like he almost kind of believes it himself 👏👏

Trossard just keeps delivering for us! Whenever Arsenal are a bit stuck me and Mrs start shouting “bring on Trossard, where’s trossard FFS!”. On he comes and almost always scores.

I’ve said it before but it’s worth repeating. We could have been stuck with Mudryk for a hundred or whatever million quid. Instead we got Trossard. Best gazumping in Arsenal history.

There are several better players in this team but Trossard is my favourite.

He also keeps reminding the press of what’s like what he said. It’s a shame we don’t get what he said and who he said it to before.
