Kai Havertz will be part of the Germany squad for the upcoming European Championships being hosted in his home country.
The Arsenal attacker has 44 caps to his name since making his debut in 2018.
It’ll be interesting to see where he’s deployed by coach Julian Nagelsmann. In his last four appearances, he’s been variously used as a left-back, left midfielder and central striker.
Germany opens the tournament against Scotland on 14 May and then takes on Hungary and Switzerland in the hope of progressing from Group A. The bookies have them ranked amongst the favourites alongside England and France.

Ex-Gunner Bernd Leno was expected to be part of the squad but he’s suffered a shoulder injury and won’t be fit enough to take part.
Nagelsmann has also taken the decision to ignore Borussia Dortmund’s talismanic captain, and Champions League semi-final hero, Mats Hummels as well as Bayern’s Leon Goreztka.
A significant chunk of Arsenal’s squad is likely to be on international duty this summer. In addition to Havertz’s call-up, we know Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes will head to the USA for the Copa America.
14 May?
You didn’t watch the first match on Tuesday?
I did.
It finished UAE 2 – 0 Easter Island Statues
Phillip Lahm – I am the most versatile German footballer of all time.
Kai Havertz (LB / CM / RWF / CF) – Hold my bratwurst.
Do you mind if I just watch while you hold his bratwurst?
Die Mannschaft!
Slow claps 👏. You proved me wrong, well done !
At the risk of provoking you, doesn’t that mean that Arteta got it right?
Yes Sir he did!
Hahaha
Would prefer he had a rest…
no Mustafi in the squad? must be a printing error
Hats off to Havertz. Cant imagine the first team without him now. So many fans were wrong about him, including me. Arteta deserves all the credit in keeping faith in him.
For sure, but it is pretty clear he was brought in as a #8 and he is pretty mediocre there (our attack can be pretty blunt with Kai as #8), and it has been when he pushed forward to #10 that he (and our attack as a whole) really went up a level. I was so-so with the transfer before it happened, but I was really critical of his early play because his passing was so limited (has improve a little) and he just wasn’t dynamic enough in the #8 role (no ball carrying). However, he’s really impressed me with… Read more »
Oops… #9
First of all hats off to Havertz for a special season, especially with the cloud he came in under. This selection acknowledges the quality and resilience he’s shown, and nobody would question his inclusion now.
This current crop of German talent looks top heavy with some superstars but too many are too near the end or beginning of their primes. It could all come together for them but it’s hard to see this group lifting the cup at the end.
Why no Serge Gnabry in German squad?
