American goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese will leave the club this summer at the expiry of her contract. Marckese joined from Danish club Koge in the summer of 2022 and initially joined Bristol City on loan at the beginning of 2023/24 before rupturing her ACL in the autumn.
Marckese made two appearances for the Gunners. She was also named the club’s PFA Community Champion for 2022/23, in recognition of her active support of Arsenal in the Community.
This follows on from confirmation earlier today that second choice goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo will also depart the club this summer with Aston Villa touted by the BBC’s Emma Sanders as a potential destination. Arsenal are interested in signing Villa’s current first choice Daphne van Domselaar to compete with Manu Zinsberger.
No one is safe but is Jonas making the right calls based on his opinions of a world class player and others. I have to consider the degree to which I follow AWFC under this Head Coach between now and the new season – IF we have a team left that he can live with!!!
I don’t honestly think the 3rd choice goalkeeper not having their contract renewed is a big deal.
Well I predicted this departure under the Sabrina announcement. The problem is we had 3 first team keepers with none of them particularly standing out from the others. Jonas has made it clear that he rates Manu so we need a significantly better goalie if she is to be ousted. Let’s see who we find in the summer.
Kaylan Marckese did well at Bristol City before her injury but she didn’t look like stand-out quality to me. I think we signed her because of how well she played against us, if I recall. Anyhow, if we are replacing her with van Domselaar, it’s great.
agree with you, and I reckon this was negotiated with Villa maybe in December, and Villa agree to sell DVD if they get Sabrina, that’s when the necessity to sign Manu comes out. Football conspiracy theories
She was basically a stop gap signing because Sabrina was playing in Sweden and Arsenal couldn’t get her until January.
Farewell Kaylan and Sabrina. Thank you both for being part of our club on and off the pitch. The community work you did Kaylan was heartwarming to read about.
Very best wishes for your futures.
My question, there are two outputs with ACL, will they be monitored? I don’t know, like… it seems like players who were injured are being discarded, I don’t really understand that, I’m worried about the physical and psychological aspects of these players, everything is going against what I thought about this club, or I could be wrong, I was confused
you don’t have to be under contract to receive treatment and training. Hopefully they get what they need at Arsenal until they find a new club
Thank you for clarifying my doubt
Why are our ladies leaving at this rate.
I have never and will never trust Jonas
It’s not rocket science. Their contracts have expired and Jonas wants different players. There is no room for sentimentality if you want to win. Chelsea have been successful over the last few years because they have been ruthless. Perform or you don’t play, simple! We cannot afford to cling on to favourites or players that the manager has no intention of playing and for the sake of the players’ career as well as the club we have to wish them well and let them go.
It’s completely normal in men’s and women’s football for back up goalkeepers to move every summer. In women’s football, contracts are rarely longer than two years, so every club has this type of churn every summer.
I think Tony was concerned that we’ve had 3 announcements in a week Viv being the noteworthy one. The suspicion is these 3 are not the last and we haven’t even reached the end of the season yet!
