Wojciech Szczesny claims he’ll be starting the season as Arsenal’s number 1 but knows he’ll have to perform consistently to keep his place.
Speaking before Poland’s friendly against Georgia, he said “I received a clear signal from Arsene Wenger before the new season that I would be the number one keeper in the Arsenal goal.
“The other keepers in the team must compete with me, but I do not plan to give up. Of course, I feel a huge pressure. I know very well how good a keeper Lukasz Fabianski is and I must be in top form all the time.”
And with Euro 2012 taking place in Poland and Ukraine next summer, the man who flattened Gareth Bale to within an inch of his life knows that if he performs well he’ll stay ahead of his countryman in the national side too.
“Now, everything is in my own hands. If I do not make any horrible mistakes, I should keep my position until the Euros.”

I am least concerned with our number one keeper in the season. They are all talented ofcourseI do not rate Almunia as a keeper. I am talking of Sczy, vito and Fabianski. But so long as we have jokers in our defence like Squid then it makes the keepers wotk the more challenging.

I just read on El Mundo Deportivo that Arsenal and Valencia have reached an agreement that will see Juan Mata come to the Emirates once Cesc completes his transfer to Barca. I don’t know how accurate this is, but it would be some great news for sure

I think people should stop picking on Nash. He’s pessimistic yes, but Wenger hasn’t been that savvy this summer. And Fabregas & Nasri’s desire to leave is a consequence of our relative trophy drought. However, we can turn things around if Wenger modifies his policy. Being financially prudent only works if your competitors don’t have the exorbitant amount of money they have. Man City, Utd, Chelsea, even Liverpool have spent and spent. Our keeper situation isn’t too bad, SZCZ is definitely 1st choice, Fabianski is much improved and a decent 2nd and Mannone has also made great strides.
Sczy is the worst keeper of the three and i really don’t know how people are falling for this. He cost us the carling cup trophy, conceded 4 goal aginst Newcastle and on average concede 2 goals a game. Fabianski need a long run in the team and he’s our future no 1 in my book. All Sczy is doing is taking himself up into the team but Arsene is not that stupid trust me guys.

What reasonably experienced CB comes to clear a ball 2 feet in front of his keeper and then dummies it? Who does that? Quick FYI; it’s Van Persie and Walcott who will be on their last 12 months next summer. That’s two of the three players who’ve said they won’t know what theyll do if Cesc leaves.
Regardless of what happens in this next 19 and a bit days Wenger has let the team and the fans down by letting things get into this situation. I suppose ultimately the board have let us all down by giving Msr Wenger free reign with what appears to be zero accountability.
