Wilshere to play on Wednesday

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere’s absence from the team that won 7-0 against the Indonesian Dream Team yesterday was because of illness, not injury.

Most of the travelling squad got a run out in the Jakarta heat, but Wilshere remained sidelined, leading to speculation that he might have damaged his ankle again.

Wenger, however, put the record straight, saying, “He had flu. He’s alright now, he will play in the next game, it was not an ankle problem.”

The Arsenal manager had praise for Olivier Giroud who scored two excellent goals, “I like Olivier very much. He had his first year, he scored 17 goals in all competitions and he needed to adapt. I am sure he will be even stronger next season.”

And he also had words for the youngsters who contributed to the win and showed the manager what they could do.

“It was interesting to see some young players, who have practised with us. I felt we always played with a desire to play the game that we love to play, with a good pace, with good quick passing and good penetrating football.

“We still physically have some work to do but overall it’s a very positive night for us, with no injuries.”

Arsenal have already moved on from Indonesia, flying overnight to Vietnam, where they’ll face the Vietnam national side on Wednesday evening.

Gnabry and Esfeld look ready to be played next season. Whereas Gerv promised but spluttered and misfired most of the time, Gnabry and Esfeld, like the Ox, seem to have bags of confidence as well as innate talent.

4thplacethrophy

i dont think we need anymore signing. giroud will improve, podolski will get used to epl. we have depth in our youngster, they should be given playing time. look at zellalem, he did a cesc-esque pass at previous game.

MAllen

Enough of this improving and developing b.s. We need the finished article NOW if we want to challenge during the next 3 years. Giroud, Poldi, Ramsey, Gibbs, Jack, Szcz, Walcott, etc. The whole fookin team is developing and improving!

frrrred

Its early but I think you are the only 1 in the planet who thinks so.

Merkesacker

Obvious troll is obvious

ruddyoslo

agreed.

LG

Though I disagree with what you wrote, you can’t help but think that Wenger is looking at those same players and also seeing lads who can step up into the first team squad. Gnabry especially as a replacement for Gerv (is he going?), and Bellerin to come in for sagna. Given history, I think that we will only make 1 signing, but unlike the past, it will be an expensive one.

Also if Esfeld [sic] plays more, I would be able to spell his name properly

iwearnosocks

funny how the live commentators mistook zelalem for Olsson for the first 20 minutes.

little dark kid from the Ethiopian side of Maryland called Olsson? Sounds about right.

Merlin's Panini

Gnabry and Eisfeld looked good, but they were playing an Indonesian “Dream Team” who aren’t exactly much of a dream. If they come on and look impressive against City or in the Emirates cup then I think we’ll see how ready they are. I’m not saying they’re definitely not ready, but it wouldn’t have been exactly that hard to look good against the team they played yesterday.

ette

I like Olivier very much too.

Mooro

We’ve got some fantastic options in midfield, with the ability to field 2 or 3 different set-ups depending on the oppo. IF Fellaini comes in that obviously adds to it, but I don’t see him as a DM at all, right now even though he might look built for it. It worked well at the back-end last year, so there must be a temptation to stick with the double pivot of Arteta and Ramsey and build round them. Dress me in an well cut Aquascutum coat and call me George Graham if you like, but if you ain’t conceding, you… Read more »

Chair

What if one of them gets injured?

Mooro

Well I suppose we’d play someone in their place?

The point is we’re really well stocked in midfield so we shouldn’t have players run into the ground like previous years.

You could quite easily rotate through the squad throughout the season, in a number of set-ups, but the double pivot did the job in the end last year, so I personally wouldn’t change it come the start of the season.

Dick Swiveller

There are 4 players who can play it, 2 of whom have played about 20 games in the last two seasons COMBINED.

I think Jack is over his injury problems but we need another midfielder for that position.

progman07

Ramsey – Arteta got results in the end of the season, but our performances were average to absymal (admittedly not only down to them, as our front three were totally unbalanced), and we mostly played against teams that either didn’t need a win anymore or struggled all season. We had a particularly easy run-in, so I wouldn’t read that much into it, of course it is a good beginning, but look at our results and most importantly performances against the stronger teams. A midfielder is a must in my opinion, but obviously Ramsey did grow to be a great squad… Read more »

Mooro

Fair point on some (not all) of the performances in the run-in. Some were bloody dire. But without that change in mentality not to concede, coupled with Arteta and Ramsey providing the shield for the back 4, we’d probably all now be looking at Spursday night football this season. Even with some additions, we’re still a million miles away from where we used to be of saying to the oppo well if you score 3, we’ll get 4 etc. We’ve got Jack, Arteta, Ramsey, Ox, Rosicky, Santi, (I’ll say Frimpong but he’s down the list at the mo – and… Read more »

ANDR

Well, if you see the final games again you would notice that Arteta- Ramsey did well in all games(even against the likes of man u, spuds, bayern) Our performances were sub par largely because of the lack of off the ball movement shown by our front 3. You could often see the likes of rosicky, cazorla , ramsey waiting with the ball at the edge of the opposition 18 yard box waiting for some movement so as to play a through ball but the front three would remain static. Even the likes of xavi and pirlo will not be able… Read more »

Thank God

frrrred

Yep that’s mightily important as well. The players are usually travelling, in and out of planes. He keeps them safe for us.

God is a gooner.

gaygooner

Dread to think what sins Abou Diaby must have committed cos God certainly aint been watching over him too well

frrrred

signed a barca shirt?

Merlin's Panini

It’s that Younes Kaboul Sp*rs shirt he has at home. If he slings it into the Thames tied to an anvil, preferably with Younes Kaboul inside it (the shirt, not the anvil), I think he’ll be alright for the rest of his career.

Rambling Pete

It’ll be great to see Wilshere back in the side, he has such potential, you just have to hope that he can fulfil it. The talent is unquestionable and if he stays injury free then I think he’ll be a first choice by the end of the season. He can certainly add some creativity to his game, and goals because he scored lots at youth level. In fact, I remember going to an U19s game he was playing in and got chatting to the man beside me who was a massive Arsenal fan but also had a huge record collection.… Read more »

Your story is boring!!!! But anything on wilshire deserves a thumbs up

Gunnersaurus Rex

And that is why even you did not give him one!!!

Jero Moho

Once we add one or two good strong players in the team we can beat any team in Europe

Nelson

Football is back 🙂 happy days are back.

PETER

Do not get to be decive because you,win an amature team 7-0,and you are talking about ,not to sign a new players, by the time ,we play epl capital one ,fa @ucl you,we no weather we are shit or not.

Vic

arseblog u er too funny but is good to get player upfront

Pacific Gooner

Hahaha i didnt get it at first

Arsene's stylist

Well said.

frrrred

A picture like that one above can tell you how close Arsene and wilshere. He really is part of the reason wilshere signed on.

With a good preseason under his belt that could set him well for a good start to the season and he will go on to light up the premierleague…….we all know what he can do. Glad he’s a fan and our player.

deji

I see guyz in here already talking about how we don’t need new signings coz of our end of season form. How many times in the last 3yrs av we had good form at the end of the season and still gone ahead to struggle in the next season? Giroud is good (on his day) but, we absolutely can’t have giroud as our top and only striker for 4 competitions. We all know what happens when arteta gets injured. I’m not asking for Messi and the whole bayern team. Just an established DM and striker. It’s just really baffling to… Read more »

ANDR

In the last three years-twice. But that was because we lost some very important players. I mean if you take out the primary playmaker, secondary playmaker , striker and dm from a team, the team is bound to struggle.
However, I do agree that we need at least two signings to compete with the likes of city and united( unless Sanogo turns out to be this season’s benteke)

Vic

Na tru talk jaree deji. giroud is good but will need striker that can deliver

ANDR

I hope fans dont put too much pressure on jack. He is probably the only player in our squad who could go on to win the balon d’or but he is not world class yet. For an attacking midfielder his goal and assist tally is low and he can go overboard with his pressing which has a detrimental effect on the team shape

Blah!

I started out so positive and already im now skeptical. Are we goingto fucking sign quality or what??? What the fuck is this club playing at??? Its all looking too familiar. My club is crumbling and as a fan im helpless to protect it.

Dick Swiveller

Keep the faith, we’re obviously ready to spend some money and in the market, once it gets to August and there’s no business done…then we reach for the razor blades.

Top quality striker 23 mill, top quality DM 18 mill,
4th CB 12 mill and top quality keeper 6 mill.
11 mill for an emergency purchase in the January window. Stop celebrating fourth. Lets win the Premier League.

ANDR

No decent cb would want to be 4th choice. imo we should promote miquel
Keeper – not required. Fabianski is far better than arsenal fans give him credit for and will provide competition for sczzers.
I do agree that we need a top striker and a backup defensive midfielder. Also, Gervinho’s departure will be pointless if we dont replace him properly
All in all, we need three signings.

o'leary

Was that chuks aneke in defence for the 2nd half of the game? He looked pretty decent as a defender but isn’t he a striker? Wenger planning to make him the next you’re perhaps?

ANDR

He is an attacking midfielder. Has the ability to play spectacular defence-splitting passes and is also a regular on the scoresheet

mistery

Koscielny could’ve done the defensive job on his own. I was hoping to see Wenger switch to the 1-2-3-4 formation and set a new club record 13-0 win.

Higuaininthemembrane

We may not have signed anyone yet but we’re definitely in for some big names. That’s a positive change and surely a good sign?

BIGMAN

I hope he will be fit to play,I am scared with the way wenger is expressing opinion over the injuries of players, from minor to serious.

Indonesian Gooner

Was at the game last night and looking forward to see Wilshere play. Massively disappointed. Atmosphere was pretty good though.

Fatgooner

“Arsenal to bid 35 million pounds for Suarez!” Yeah, right. It looks like the heat has got to the heads of a few sports journalists. Things are almost comical now: it’s as if the club are now playing a game of “Just How Much Bullshit Will the Fans Take?” With the clock ticking, Wenger has signed just one French-African injury-prone young hopeful, but we actually needed four or five quality players – where the fuck are they? It just amazes me that Wenger and Gazidis have the brass neck to continue giving interviews: it’s just so clear that their only… Read more »

glory hunter

unfortunately i have to agree with fatgooner!
If we fail to strengthen significantly this summer, then i doubt even the biggest Arsene Wenger fan will have any faith in his ability to lead us to success, there is simply no more excuses.

But im certain we’ll strengthen, its inevitable with the amount of departures thus far, but once again it appears we’re looking for last min bargains.

gaygooner

we’re going to Vietnam right now aren’t we?

ANDR

Big signings take time to materialize. Also, money cannot be the only factor to judge a players quality. Sanogo might turn out to be better than higuain or whomsoever we sign this season.
For instance, I didn’t know about Benteke when aston villa bought him last season but he turned out to be a freaking good player.

Voldermort

I said earlier in the year that I actually believed the club would spend money this season on the players we clearly need. Last season we were woeful at times and I just could not conceive that the club would fail to see how bad we where and how much the team needed strengthening. I’m starting to think we have been conned yet again. Even a top quality striker alone is not enough to mount a serious title challenge. It got bad at the grove at times last season hate to think what’s going to happen this season given the… Read more »

New Arse

Calm down Fats. Wenger will make probably two top class signings and Arsenal will be one motherfucking beast this season. I can feel it in me bones.

glory hunter

I sincerely hope you’re right New Arse!

fez

No need to panic just yet, while it’s frustrating not to have signed anyone it’s clear we’re in the market for quality players and willing to spend. Still hopeful the higuain deal will happen, and would personally like to see a dm and quality lw to replace gervinho. What strikes me with our squad as it is at the moment is that we have a lot of good squad players but only a few star players. In the past we’ve had teams with 6 or 7 stars such as a few years ago we had kos, wilshere, cesc, nasri, van… Read more »

am hoping for another win on wednesday

Moral high ground

I bought a season ticket today. A lot of money. Have been happy with red membership up to now since we moved to the emirates. I am a realist and not a glory hunter (I think). But am I a mug? When it came to paying up I did wonder about this…

ANS

The way I see it is simple:

Will I still watch Arsenal next year if we sign no-one? Yes. Therefore, if that is an informed decision, then fine.

If the answer is no, I’d rethink buying anything off the club.

Lockednloaded

santi didn’t sign until like the last day in July, first of August. arseblog announced the bid on the 28th so everything didn’t happen July 1st last year either.

JB

If Wenger thinks there’s no need to strenghten, then I’ll still support him. Call me what ever tou want, but I rather win games with no signings, than lose with multiple. @shitty #can’tevenwinagameagainstwhat’stheirnameagain?

Vic

is better for him to sign quality player this time, atleast 3 good ones

ANS

The problem is that a worryingly large proportion of people overly prioritise these factors in their judgement of whether a player is good:

>How much he costs (and his wages).
>His rating on FIFA (dead serious).
>Who he played for (and in which league).
>Media hype about him.
>Youtube clips of him.

I’m not saying that all of these are irrelevant but it makes you think that if Wenger signed Vieira this summer, the fanbase would be on his back. How odd is that?

Arsecrew

All the papers are reporting that Manu has made a bid for Fabregas. If we dont at least put up a fight and try to resign him then Wenger and the rest of the moneycunts can fuck right off. Fabregas to Manu would really piss me off.
