Martinez joins Sheffield Wednesday on loan

Goalkeeper Damien Martinez has joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan.

The Argentine youngster has found himself pushed down the pecking order with the arrival of Emiliano Viviano, and at this point in his career needs to play to develop his game.

The loan is initially for a one month period but may be extended if things go well.

He played in a behind closed doors friendly for Wednesday against Man City last week and impressed manager Dave Jones enough to bring him in on a short term basis.

Best of luck to him.

Ooooohhh, no Wenger. Why do you sell/loan all of our best players?

Just when we were looking good, top of the league and all that, you had to go and do this and piss of the fans…

arsesicky

thumb downers, I have one word for you: sarcasm

Dr Baptiste

And I have two words: Not funny

kovacevic

Great player. What a loss.

Wenga out now!

TheAWenger

Can someone please tell me how loans work? I thought all deals had to be completed by deadline day.

Maximus

Loans to the premier league and foreign leagues end at deadline day, but premier league clubs can loan their players to the lower leagues (Championship/leagues 1 & 2) at any point during the season.

masterofthegoonaverse

Loans should ONLY be allowed to lower league teams, its bollocks, City for example loaning, and paying most of his wages, Adebayor to sperz, who can then score against everyone else but not even play against them.

Bonjour

Ahh well who cares in the case of Adebayor, City can loan him to anyone they want. Nobody who’s not as desperate as a 50 year old virgin paedophile would want him. And he plays like shit against us anyway.

Saying the Obvious

All the best lad! Playing time and experience will definitely get you far as a football player!

Loans.....

It’s probably on an emergency loan

This Pay day Loan brought to you by WENGA.com

Makenzie

Good for him…It will help his game.Pls what is Frimpong doing at Arsenal.A loan would have help him too.

glory hunter

For a hard man, he is very injury prone.
So maybe the plan is to keep him injury free by not playing any football at all.
And he can just entertain the rest of the team, Dench 🙂

Harsh

i have been wondering the same thing… he is definitely not injured… he was an unused sub for us in 4-5 games this season at the start… i don’t know, maybe wenger is preparing him for a first-team start that might come later this season… in any case, he will have to work very hard and probably will also need a bit of luck to start ahead of arteta and/or flamini…

Harsh

and he has been at rsenal since the age of nine, he’s 20 now… so, i think we can probably rule out the possibilty that wenger now doesn’t consider hoim good enough for the first team, right ??

Solid Gooner

Arsene rates him quite highly but believes he is not at the level expected of a regular of a top top club. An extended loan deal would be beneficial to all. It is up to Damien to prove how good be truly is.

Hmmmdoughnuts

thumbs down for the ‘top top’

kosmima

Makes sense. Goodluck to him!

Donut Maestro

Hope he does well and puts his last senior performance behind him. I still have nightmares about the gaffe he pulled and I don’t even remember which game it was. Inexperience, pressure et al. Good luck to him.

overmars

The Mental game at Reading last season that ended 7-4 or 7-5?

arsesicky

if we signed him this summer, how could he have played at reading last season?

Hmmmdoughnuts

He’s been at Arsenal for 2-3 years at least

Dr Baptiste

Do you mean Viviano? Because if so, he isn’t Martinez

Hmmmdoughnuts

I was at that game (7-5) and Martinez didn’t really have any gaffes, could have got a stronger hand on one of the goals but the others were either good strikes or bad defending.
