Hull complete Akpom signing

Hull City have completed the loan signing of Chuba Akpom.

The 19 year old will spend the 2015/16 season at the KC Stadium as he looks to develop and get first team football under his belt.

Akpom, who had a loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season, has still to score an official goal at senior level, and with Hull pushing for promotion Steve Bruce will be hoping the Arsenal man can realise some of that potential in the months to come.

Akpom joins fellow Gunner Isaac Hayden at Hull – the defender/midfielder joined up with the Tigers last week.

Great news! Wish him luck

CB

If he has goals already he is doing very well! Get in there.

Miranda

Poor Akpom, he didn’t want to go one bit and must be sick at heart that it’s Iwobi who’s been kept to train with the first team. Perhaps he’ll fair better than he has in the past, and than our loanees usually do, and actually get a few games.

On a cheerier note, nice to see Szczesny is doing very well at the moment. The match commentators love him – ‘grandisssimo intervento!’ again and again.

It’s impossible to force a player to go anywhere if he has a contract, and it would be very unlike Wenger to tell anyone they’re not allowed to train with the first team anymore because they rejected a transfer.

What’s actually happened is that Wenger feels Iwobi can learn a lot from training with the first team and playing for the U21s and possibly in the Carling cup, while Akpom needs proper competitive senior football to develop further, which Arsenal can’t give him at the moment. And Akpom seems to agree, or he wouldn’t have gone.

Arsene

Best of luck lad!
Regular playing time will only improve your undoubted talent.Come back stronger!

Is this a meaning we’ll sign another experienced striker? By the way, good luck to chuba. Come back to arsenal as a better & experienced striker for us.

Clock-End Mike

More likely it means that Welbz is back in training.

Mootilated

Didn’t Wenger say he was supposed to stay at The Emirates this season? Either way, best of luck to the lad!

Andy G

I think you’re confusing him with The Jeff.

Merlin's Panini

Nope, he said he wanted him around for all of preseason. Preseason is done now. He’s made his assessment and clearly felt it’s best for Akpom to gain some senior level experience.
Best of luck to him. I think he looks a good player.

You learn something new every day. Relegation of clubs and subsequent reduction in their funds provides opportunity for upcoming players to play regular first team football! Works out for the best for all the parties.

AllGunsABlazin

Terrible city, good player, good luck to him.

Great news all round.

FOC

Since I start supporting Arsenal, never heard of a successful forward who makes a step up after loan spells. There are successful loans, but once return they never truly make it (TGSTEL, Vela, Campbell, Miyaichi, etc.) Can he be the first? or will the hype dies upon the start of next season when he return as surely Steve Bruce signing him as squad player (didn’t Hull have Jelavic, Aluko, Hernandez, Ndoye?)

Anonymous Physicist

And how many forwards have successfully taken the step straight from the U21s to the first team in that same time? I’m guessing that’s none as well. However, if you don’t just look at forwards, you’ll see that (almost?) everyone who breaks through has a lower league loan or two on their cv.

Developing players is just difficult, and no club that regularly makes the last 16 of the Champions League produces a successful player in every position every 10 years. Otherwise half the squad would be from your own academy, and that isn’t true for any top European club.

FOC

Heh. I do understand the difficulty of developing players. I just think its interesting a forward never make it unlike other positions (eg. GK: Szczesny at Brentford, Defender: Bellerin at Watford, Midfielder: Wilshere at Bolton).

Just curious why many thinks these loan spells will result with the player coming back ready to make it big. Surely it will be more difficult if they only make squad and not starting 11 at the loan club?

Nicolae

Have you seen that at any other clubs?

tapps

Merson?

Rossi88

Hernandez and aluko will leave i reckon

Andy Mack

I’m not sure it will make much difference if they stay or go.
Just look at their numbers for last year.
Aluko scored 1. and Hernandez 5.

Chubaccakpom

Seems like the right post to do this, arseblog is obviously a very prestigious blog and one I’ve enjoyed for many a year, however I’ve never commented and as such need a suitable name, which is the better out of the following three:

A) Chubakka
B) Chubaccakpom
C) Chubakapom

Zeus

Personally I prefer ‘Chewbacca’ despite it not being on your list, but I suspect that has more to do with my generation’s cultural heritage…

Double98

Captain Codpiece is the obvious best name.

col

Hope he comes back and contributes to our glorious title win
