In a painfully shaky first half Arsenal scored a goal that was wrongly disallowed for offside, but were thankful to Petr Cech for keeping them it making two fantastic saves from Benteke and Coutinho.
It was in stark contrast to the 33 year old’s first game at the Emirates when he was found wanting against West Ham, and the former Chelsea keeper declared himself pleased that he could help the team to win their first home point of the season.
“The first game was the opposite of this one,” he told Sky Sports. “When you start with new club and everything goes wrong, you need to go back to work and bounce back that was what I tried to do.
“Today was one of those game when I was in the right place and the right time.”
His fingertip stop from Coutinho was most spectacular, but it was the close range save from Benteke that really showed his quality, and it was the one he was most pleased with.
“The first one I saw the ball all the way,” he said. “With Benteke Gabriel tried to intercept, so you have to wait and once it got past him I had to get there fast. I had a bit of luck but I got there.”
And after a much more positive second half, the Czech international was frustrated that the goal we needed wouldn’t come.
“It’s hard to believe after all the chances it ended 0-0. The number of chances we create in the second half, when we played more in the Liverpool half, this is something that’s positive, but obviously we need to be more efficient and clinical in front of goal.”
Mom along w coq. Playing at home. Against Liverpool…
What original language do I need to put into google translate to understand this?!?
I think he meant ‘MOTM’
He was the best player on the pitch.
World class keeper
Petr Cech = the anti-Mourinho
Outstanding performance tonight stood up to be counted. Especially as he had a weak back two infront of him, but kept talking and drilling them all game.
It was pity that our best performer was Cech despite playing at home
cech…….. check! Giroud…….. blank
Too weak and disappointed to write any comment. And can’t or don’t know who to blame for dropped points. Just know that we need another striker who can bring on a different approach and that striker is not Theo.
And still you write. How strange.
“Too weak and disappointed to write any comment..”
That’s an oxymoron.
Or maybe just a moron.
In a painfully shaky first half Arsenal scored a goal that was wrongly disallowed for offside, but were thankful to Petr Cech for keeping them it making two fantastic saves from Benteke and Coutinho – this perfectly summed up the match for me. We scored the goal and made the saves (albeit pant browning last ditch finger tips ones).
We lost two points due to poor officiating.
May I also add that especially with Welbeck caught in the ‘Three weeks away’ vortex, that it would help finding some firepower to finish the chances we create. Also hope and pray that Le Coq is not injured the whole season (because I don’t see Wenger addressing both issues in this window)!
Cech that out guys. 1 point down, 14 more please. If I am to choose, give me six at Stamford bridge and the Etihadm
At this point I want to say fuck it, I’m jumping on the ‘sign a striker’ train.
who?
We should sign Zlatan Benzadowski.
None of his clubs want him and they are willing to downgrade to a second tier striker like say Sanogo if we like to throw him in. 😉
MOTM today. He was outstanding, imperious and commanding.
No doubt about it today–Cech saved our collective ass. Equally without a doubt, the ref saved Liverpool’s ass.
Not to be pedantic or anything, but it was the linesman, not the referee, who saved Liverpool’s ass. I actually thought Oliver had an excellent game, and he’s the one referee in the PL that doesn’t make me cringe with fear whenever I see him walk on the pitch.
World class performance from Cech today, we could’ve been 2 down before half time
This is exactly why the gaffer bought him.
Good value for 11m
Could have been 3 points dropped instead.
With Both Per and Koscielny out due to various circumstances, we were understandably vulnerable with the inexperienced Calum and the rarely played Gabriel on in front of the keeper.
It is for this reason that Wenger brought in Cech and his experience to cover for one (or in this case BOTH) of his regular Meterscielny Cback partnership going missing.
Liverpool fan gave me stick yesterday about the Cech signing. Said Mourinho was right. 😉
Well its back to Arsene was right.:D
If the goal had been given, this might have been Arsenal’s night. In signing Cech, we made sure we have the talent in goal to rescue a point. On that front, our single transfer has been inspired.
I’m just glad this game was against a shitty Liverpool and not the in-form ManCity!
I’m just glad they don’t have Bitey up front any more. Would have been a massacre.
Very impressed with Liverpool’s energy and pressing first half. Teams will be looking at that as the blueprint to stop us for the rest of the season. I really think we a need big strong, imposing centre midfielder. 6ft plus , 85kg. Still hopeful for a title push even without that but I think that type of player would improve us greatly
coutihno is class…The only Liverpool player that will improve our team
Despite the positive pre season we had, we have failed to kick on when it matters. i know it might too early, but we have lost 5 points in matches which we should’ve easily won.
This is starting to look alot like last season; but then again the only difference is while other teams have strengthened, we have only added one player and somehow miraculously think that we’ll win the league because of our super signing “cohesion”.
Cech is very intelligent. Great game good interview. Great signing.
Giroud and Theo can play together, it’s not a taboo, Monsieur!
Seaman’esque performance my Cech today, outstanding! Ozil and Coq excellent but that was it.
I’ll get thumbed down for this but when Jack is back he needs to play the Santi quarterback role with Santi benched or out wide. His bursts directly forward and goals is what we need….Oh and while we’re at it a new centre back and striker please.
i thought Ozil wasnt bad today.i think he should look to take more shots at goal.infact all our midfield players should.
Which is exactly what the Ox did when he came on, had a couple of shots from outside the box, caused them a bit of trouble. I thought Mignolets save from Giroud was superb, that would of gone in on another day!
Ozil sucks, i cant understand why the hell Arsene keeps him on the field,GOD its annoying…he could play Ox or Theo instead, but no he keeps that guy running like an idiot
I thought Ozil was outstanding, v Liverpoo, rather than ‘not bad’, Nzini
5 out of last 6 at home we have failed to score and still wenger persists with playing Ramsey out wide. It is so fucking frustrating. Everything came down our left until ox came on and straight away broke down the right and nearly caused own goal. You have ox and theo available and he still accomadate a Ramsey. Poor management cost us tonight as it did against west ham. He got away with it palace cos he should have taken coq off at half time. Thumb down all you like but you have to be completely blinkered if you… Read more »
Ramsey was good though – ‘scored’ a goal, worked hard. Maybe an idea might be to play Alexis up top, play Ox from the left?
I do hope this so something already being worked on at the training ground.
Even then, I’ll wait until Sanchez is 100% before playing him up top. The chances he’s missed the last two games, he’ll be burying for fun very soon.
Last time Alexis played up top he was substituted after not getting any action. Ramsey is good but something’s gotta give when we need an actual winger on the pitch who can you know, run!
I think petr cech is proving to be a better signing than the much lauded super megastar ”COHESION” which is suppossed to win us the title?
