Walcott: Talker Cech has changed us completely

Theo Walcott has hailed the quality of Petr Cech after the Arsenal keeper kept another clean sheet in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa yesterday.

The 33 year old equalled David James Premier League record in the process, and the England forward said that his arrival in the summer from Chelsea had changed Arsenal defensively.

“From when we signed him, we all knew how good he was after what he achieved at Chelsea,” he told Arsenal Player.

“He’s changed us completely in that back four. He’s a talker, he believes in us all.

“That’s why he wanted to join us and having with that presence behind you is always nice to have. He’s very commanding, he’s a leader in the dressing room as well, he always likes to talk.”

And on the record, he said, “On a personal level, for him it’s great.”

Cech himself spoke about the clean sheet record, saying, “It’s an unbelievable personal achievement and I hope that the final number [of clean sheets] continues to grow.

“Obviously I hope it continues to help us to stay top of the league and to have a chance to fight for the title. That would be magnificent.

“I’m delighted to have equalled the record but I’m more delighted with the three points.”

Class player, seen it all, record breaker (in considerably less matches than David James, over one clean sheet in two), mature, will boost the whole team.

What were Chelsea thinking?

Double98

How did he manage to leave with so much integrity – you would have though Mourihno’s malice would have corrupted him but he appears to be the AntiTerry.

They can have our cashley we’ll take their cechs.

Chelsea were thinking Courtois is better, they thought Terry held the back 5 together.
But Mourihno knew. He has been trying to get himself sacked since it happened.

Arsene did, does and always will Know

Umlaut

To be fair, if I had the choice of Courtois or Chech I’ll probably go with Courtois too, mostly because of age

Arigoon

So you didn’t bother reading the article but are just here for the comments?

Cliff Bastin

Chill as shit.

Smart-Arse

Was that a typo for “Chelshit”?

Fool of a Took

Top class!

Imagine what we could have achieved during the “dark years” with Cech instead of Almunia, Scehzney, Fabianski or whover was our current awful GK..

Don Cazorleone

I still rate Szczesny, just needs to grow up a bit.

I remember on the Tuesday club podcast Alan Davies mentioning that in the warm ups he would be trying rabonas from the edge of the box, if he can drill that childish side out of him he will have a blinding career.

Ramesh

So, you are childish if you try rabonas during training? Any footballer should be allowed to have a bit of fun. As long as he does his goalkeeping training sufficiently, if he wishes to do something else for fun, what’s wrong in it?

Don Cazorleone

Not in training, during pre-match warm-ups…

You are right though, he should be allowed some fun, of course. Unfortunately there is a time and a place and it just seems indicative of a lack of concentration and application in his case.

Don’t get me wrong, like I said, I rate the guy, there just seems to be some room for maturing is all

GunnAlex

Theres another Arsenal podcast???

I jest, i listen to em all. I love me some free Arsenal content.

Keep up the good work blogs.

AGunner

That’s fair enough but you can’t forget why Cech is as good as he is. Whilst he was developing he had a solid 4 in front of him as much as I hate to say. That gave him the chance to develop well and be the player that he is. Almunia, Fabianski and Szczesny all suffered because of our transitionary period. We had players like Silvestre, Squillaci, Djourou, etc in front of them and it’s difficult learning your trade as a goalkeeper when players around you aren’t pulling their weight. That led to immense pressure in the media and from… Read more »

Arshavin's fake moustache

I wouldn’t swap him for any other keeper (certainly in the UK) right now

With Cech,

Possession

With Cech Koscielny Ramsey Ozil and Giroud performing like they are just now it seems Spine of the team is in place

Sean

“On a personal level, for him it’s great.” – To have moved on from his relegation fighting club this season

ciderman

Don’t forget le coq

Possession

Le Coq is injured which is why I said just now but 100% agree that he strengthens the Spine when playing.

loose_cannon

The question is whether Cazorla comes back in the team for Ramsey. Funnily enough I think that will also depend on the form of Campbell and Ox.

Mpls

the biggest question there is if Le Coqsey can get it on and control the balls.

charley

yeah but the coq is not attached to the spine, it’s strong for it’s own reasons

Cech is a Gooner alright! Up your tiny arse Cunt-Mou!

AntiSpud

F*CK!

Had to be Barcelona!

I really hope if/when we win the league this year Maureen is still in charge at Chelshit. After all the grief he’s give arsen over the years it would feel like he’s got away with it if he’s not about when arsen(hopefully) throws it back in his face.

True Red

Unfortunately Arsene is far too classy to do something like that. The best we can hope for is a little smile when Maureen is mentioned

Mpls

All the better.

ClassyArse

I think it would be very very well worth remembering….as much as Wenger chose Cech…Cech chose Wenger.

AshburtonRed

He seems to love playing for the Arsenal too. Happy days.

BangkokGooner

Posted a while back, when the transfer was first mooted, that I hoped it would turn into a Pat Jennings/Bobby Mimms thing and happily it’s proving to be just that. Awesome signing and let’s hope he goes on as long as Pat did but wins a lot more trophies 🙂

NousMouse

I like Walcott I really do, but sometime I just wish he’d STFU.

“He’s a talker, he believes in us all.”
“That’s why he wanted to join us”

He didn’t want to disrupt his family by moving out of London; having been displaced by Courtois as Chelsea’s first choice keeper. Coupled with the fact that he had/has a good relationship with Abramovich who ‘kindly’ sanctioned the move to an EPL rival who, most importantly, happen to be playing in the UCL.

His arrival at the Emirates is a marriage of convenience. Fortunate for both parties but nothing more.

Paul

Don’t ruin it mate! 🙁

James Sudbury

Top keeper is a must. What was he trying to achieve with the likes of Almunia and Schezny?!

Mpls

Emirates mortgage payments.

Big J

Cech has brought in a lot to Arsenal. He’s the best buy so far. Just one player has changed the fortunes of Arsenal unlike other clubs that spent 100s of millions of pounds. Kudos to Wenger.

tapps

…and to think, for the same money we could have had a quarter of an Anthony Martial!

Paul

Cech is a proper player and I rekon he has saved us six points already?
