Wilshere: Respect for Roy, but no favours

Jack Wilshere says that he has big respect for Roy Hodgson, but that he won’t be doing the former England manager any favours on Thursday night.

The possibly 75 year old but maybe younger or perhaps a bit older is now manager of Crystal Palace and the midfielder is in line to start at Selhurst Park as the Gunners look for three valuable Premier League points.

“He was the first one who tried me as a defensive midfielder for England and I relished that,”said Wilshere. “I liked playing there and learnt a lot. So I have got nothing but respect for him.

“He’s a good manager in my eyes and I am looking forward to seeing him but I won’t be doing any favours.”

Having broken back into the first team, Jack feels like he’s finding some of his best form again.

“I think I’m close to my best. I think I have been getting better and better each game,” he continued.

I learned a lot last year about the defensive side of the game because when you play for a team like Bournemouth you don’t always have the ball and you need to be switched on defensively.

“I feel like that has really benefited me and I’m a better player for it.

“I feel a lot more sure defensively and confident that if I’m going into a challenge that I’m going to win the ball.

“I’m happy and hopefully it can continue.”

Wilshere you Ickes beast show us what you can do and start dominating the midfield …

Come on you gunners

SB Still

The team is in a desperate need of a superstar, who will stay. It’s Wilshire’s big chance to grab it and fulfil his potential that he showed when he first broke into the senior squad.

Berlingoon

It’s WilshEre. He’s made his debut nearly a decade ago now. Should be possible to spell his name correctly by now. It’s not that complicated.

Conrado

It should be possible for you not be offended by a spelling mistake

Berlingoon

Im not offended by it. I just question how dedicated you watch Arsenal games if you can’t spell the name of a player who’s playing for us for almost a decade now. If it would be Szczesny, I could understand it, as it’s a quite complicated name. But Wilshere, come on.

Alphie

Hoping you can just kick in and take hold of that midfield like our Lego man did

Charvakan

Jack’s looking good and is another creative option in midfield. He’ll get some goals too.

Max

Jack is a fighter for us! We are having him back right at the moment we need something fresh, may his anger turn into goals! Up the arse yall!!

Arsenal players have a funny habit of talking a big game on social media but collapsing like jellyfish when push comes to shove or just not turning up when the pressure is on.
I hope we win on Thursday night but this squad of players and particularly its manager does not fill me with any confidence at all…

Bim

Speaking of Arsenal players who were prolific on social media, whatever happened to the Denchmeister?

Homer

Emmanuel Frimpong. What a shame with that one. Like Alex Song, IMO. Loads of talent both, but lost their heads too early on. And I noticed that the jellyfish staged a 3 goal fightback with their feet in the fire the other night. (For sure, Wenger’s constant comments about mental strength sound really annoying given the side’s proclivity for mental lapses. That I lay at his door step for not getting the team ready or prepared properly BEFORE kickoff, but that is a different issue.) But if you cannot be at least a little happy about that 3-3 result and… Read more »

I second that Jack. You’re defensive contribution has been excellent in the CM role so far. I also remember when Jack was playing as the deep midfielder in the England national team, his passing range was excellent.

Hence I think playing Xhaka is redundant. Jack can dictate play and even dribble the ball from deep while Xhaka can only pass (although he has a bit more quality).

I’m hoping with AMN’s excellent form, Wenger can give him a chance to play alongside Jack in midfield.

Well, I can only hope..

Jack and AMN might actually be a decent combo, though it does show how poor our options at DM are atm
