Match Report: AC Milan 4 – 0 Arsenal

Arsenal’s unbeaten run in knock-out ties against Italian sides in Europe came to an abrupt halt in the San Siro this evening as Arsene Wenger’s side suffered their heaviest ever defeat on the continent at the hands of AC Milan.

The 4-0 loss, courtesy of goals from Kevin Prince Boateng, a brace from Robinho and a Zlatan Ibrahimovic penalty, mean the Gunners need a miracle at the Emirates to stay in this season’s Champions League.

Sporting last season’s yellow away kit, Arsene Wenger made clear that he was in a cautious mood by taking Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out of the starting line-up and pushing Tomas Rosicky into the left wing slot. At the back Kieran Gibbs returned for the first time in four months, while Thomas Vermaelen moved into the centre of defence next to Koscielny.

We made a bright enough start. Inside two minutes Rosicky skipped past Mark van Bommel before unleashing one of his characteristically wayward efforts. Clarence Seedorf, who’d had kind things to say about the Gunners pre-game, was substituted after just eleven minutes. Urby Emanuelson, another former Ajax man, replaced him on the left side of the Milan midfield and immediately came close to opening the scoring with a first time effort inside the box following a knock down by Ibrahimovic.

After fifteen minutes we went 1-0 down and it was a goal which Wojciech Szczesny has to take responsibility for. Taking a goal kick short to Bacary Sagna the ball was laid back to the goalkeeper who made a real hash of an attempted long clearance. It fell straight to a Milan player who nipped the ball to Kevin Prince Boateng in the Gunners box, the ex-Spurs and Portsmouth man then crashed home a volley which completely stunned the Pole. It was a great finish, but the opportunity should never have come about.

Milan were on the up against an Arsenal side who were struggling to make an impact in the final third.  Five minutes later another long range effort by Nocerino flew just over Szczesny’s bar. The nervousness at the back continued when a ball over the top saw Thomas Vermaelen hesitate over a clearance only for the referee to save his blushes by punishing Ibrahimovic for a push.

Our first effort on goal came on 24 minutes. A Van Persie free-kick clipped into the box was met by Koscielny, but the Frenchman’s tame header was easily claimed by Abbiati in the Milan goal.

Ahead of the game Arsene had made very clear he was unimpressed by the state of the San Siro pitch, it didn’t take long to see why. On both flanks the grass had been relaid and players from both sides struggled with their footing. While Milan played it safe at the back, choosing to clear from the full-back positions, on too many occasions the Gunners defence dallied on the troublesome turf. Vermaelen had a last gasp Koscielny challenge to thank after more uncharacteristically sloppy play from the Belgian saw Milan arrowing in on goal.

Eight minutes before half-time and Milan went 2-0 up. Bacary Sagna chose not to play to the whistle thinking the linesman would signal for an offside and Zlatan Ibrahimovic raced clear down the left wing. The Swede had all the time in the world to cross for Robinho who headed home from close range. There may have been doubts about whether Ibrahimovic was originally offside, but you can’t not track players.

To make matters worse Laurent Koscielny, who had been our best player, was forced from the field with an injury to be replaced by Johan Djourou. We were literally limping towards the half-time whistle when Boateng nearly scored a third, before brave keeping by Szczesny put off Antonini to ensure that the Gunners were only two down at the break.

It hadn’t been a good 45 minutes. There was no fluidity in the passing, Robin van Persie looked isolated and Milan not only looked disciplined, but very comfortable. Perhaps passive was the best way of describing a lacklustre showing by the men from North London.

Thierry Henry, in his final game of his loan spell, was sent on at the start of the second period in place of Walcott as the Gunners moved to a 4-3-2-1 formation with the Frenchman leading the way.

Despite the attacking intentions, Arsenal went 3-0 down on 48 minutes. A slip by Thomas Vermaelen, having a nightmare of a game, allowed Robinho a clear sight of goal on the edge of the area and the Brazilian lashed a low shot past Szczesny.

Despite having four central midfielders on the pitch, it was in the middle of the park that the game was being lost. Periods of possession were few and far between for Arsenal, while Milan didn’t come under nearly enough pressure when on the ball themselves.

Surviving something of an onslaught in the following minutes the Gunners made it to the hour mark without conceding another, but chances at the other end were few and far between. A Ramsey header from a corner was the slightest of highlights before Robin van Persie forced a tremendous save from Abbiati after a great volley.

Throwing caution to the wind Kieran Gibbs was subbed off, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came on, Alex Song dropped into the centre of defence and Vermaelen moved to the left-back slot. With 20 minutes left we needed a goal. Another Van Persie volley, this time snatched with his right foot, was saved by Abbiati, but still Milan looked the more dangerous side and with twelve minutes left they duly won a contentious penalty.

Ibrahimovic skipped into the box, made contact with Johan Djourou and went down. The referee pointed to the spot and having raised himself from the turf the Swede smacked home from the spot. 4-0 and game over. 4-0 and most probably tie over.

There was still time for Rosicky to hit the corner flag with another attempt – the guy’s shooting is nothing short of appalling – before Abbiati again denied RVP, this time from a header. At full-time though you sensed that the result was fully deserved – certainly not something you want to say of such a heavy defeat. A chastening night.

It looks to be the end of the road in the Champions League. Obviously there are 90 minutes still to play, but even the most fervent optimist would struggle to hope for a turnaround of such epic proportions at the Emirates given tonight’s showing.

Let the inquest begin.

And now they get treated to our lovely Emirates turf, scumbags

Bob's your uncle

i can never understand when players don’t turn up to these games.. the biggest games in their careers.. gl henry. and see you soon.

Spooner

I spent 12 hours getting to Milan as the flights out of Zurich were down. Only 3 players (Kos, Arteta & Rambo) looked like they cared. Now getting ripped off for 50 euros for a 20 euro journey into town from a pikey cab driver. Disappointing to say the least, though the fans were great before the match. The only thing I could here on the way down those ridiculous turrets was ‘Wenger out’. Wenger came for a draw & got fucked. Met some good people so I’d probably do it again, but not feeling good about the journey home… Read more »

we should honestly start playing 442 again, rvp needs someone to relieve the pressure, and when he had a partner vs milan that was when we finally started to at least get a couple of shots on goal

Josh

@Spooner

Feel bad for you guys in Milan tonight. The club should refund every fan out there every single pence they spent supporting Arsenal in Milan tonight.

Kafata

@Spooner, 4 players. The Ox revitalised the team for a couple of minutes when he came on.

But, we were shit. Absolute shit.

AFC

What a roller coaster season!

At least it was a cheap ride you might say. Not for the supporting fans though…

Disgusted.

We hail the spirit of our team coming back during games and then this? CL?

The Red and White Observer

Ladies and Gentlemen of this great blog ESPECIALLY the regulars, you know who you are… may I remind you of something special tonight/day. Thierry Henry played his final competitive game for the Arsenal this evening in Milan. WE MUST SAY GOODBYE TO THE LEGEND with a few entries of farewell. Thanks Thierry… We will miss you more than you know…. and thanks for Leeds. THE GAME: I’ve read all 100plus comments and everyone is feeling the pain of the loss… some more so than others. But may I say that AC Milan is top of the Italian league for a… Read more »

TV5: “It’s difficult to give an explanation for what happened so soon after the game this evening because I’m quite disappointed by what happened,” said Vermaelen. “When you are a professional you put the bad things that happen behind you. We will have to learn our lessons from what happened tonight but it is important at times like this to remain mentally strong and focus on the next game.”

paddymac

Never mention Piers Morgan’s name on an Arseblog forum again, else you’ll be banned.

(I don’t know if that’s a rule, but it should be)

Sharpyparpy

We were set up far too negatively. Why would anyone choose to play Rosicky unless you HAVE to is beyond me. It wasn’t rocket science, Ox should have started and we should have attacked from the outset. Milan are an ageing team and pace and directness would have put them on the back foot. Bringing Henry (as much as I love him) on at half time was depressingly desperate. Ox should have come on with him and Theo backing up RVP in the centre, when we play this way, we are fast scary and difficult to handle. I love Wenger… Read more »

ARSENE WENGER ; “It is difficult to analyse, so it is better not to talk too much, to analyse with a cooler header and regroup for the next game,” Wenger said. “The season is not finished. We have a big game on Saturday and it is a good opportunity to show we have character and mental strength, that we can respond after such a shocking defeat. “You could blame and blame, but we have to stick together and win the next game. “A big disappointment like that has consequences on your belief. Total disgrace. 5000 poor fuckers paid money to follow this lot. Another 4500 are going to Sunderland on Saturday. Best away fans in England deserve so much more than this bunch of shit. Absolutely no idea from start to finish. from walcot who again had no idea what the fuck he was doing to any one of the defence or midfield who just lost the ability to make a straight pass. And some people on here still think rvp is not signing his contract because he can’t find the time to sit down and sort it out. he’s not signing… Read more »

Worst defeat in almost a decade, worst defeat on the continent. If the people at the echelon thinks this is acceptable then they must be insane. Good riddance to idiots on top.

CAGooner

This was worse than the 8-2 of Black Sunday. That was, at least, a scratch team. This was our first team (even though Wenger should have started the Ox).

What's my name?

Even worse than the defeat is the possibility that this is likely the night that sealed the departure of RvP next season from us. Totally gutted.

why is my name required

I feel sorry for the away fans who came to cheer for the team and also for Thierry, it was his last game, we should have at least scored one for him. Rvp was not having his best game, clearly we were hoping he could do something but then no one stepped up. i fear for our defence too. First Metersacker, now Kocielny. Is our season over? i don’t know what to say after a terrible performance like this

Bobby Pires

Looks like no more Sky Sports, BBC, Back pages or wearing my Arsenal shirt in public until… I dont even fucking know when

paddymac

It’s only one game mate. Wear your shirt with pride.

Megaafc

Never hide your colours

Bryan Ortiz

Fuck that, im wearing my jersey right now, the love for my time will never die no matter what

goonerO

Walcott played like a cunt. We should pay him on results, the cheeky bastard for wanting a pay rise. Who else gets a rise for being shit at their job 95% of the time?

Eric Irish gunner

Agree as I said plays ok every 1 in 4 he’d owe the club if he was played on fucking performances, rosicky not much better tonight why the fuck does he not let the ball go sooner a shit performance with no heart

Young Gooner

Did he play tonight? I thought we played with 10 men because I cannot see Walcott anywhere on the pitch. Hopefully when Gervinho come back to start, the Ox will play alongside him rather than the fast for nothing Walcott. Otherwise, we will continue to play with 10 men.

Kafata

“Looks like Theo Walcott’s coming off for—”
“Who? Walcott? Was he playing?”

The commentating was about the only good part of today. Absolutely gutted…

superanderslimpar

Dont think any of us really expected that did we? I think tonight saw the confirmation that RvP will be gone in the summer. He has seen a team in less than 12 months go from beating Barca to being outclassed by an OK Milan team. Can you imagine if that had been Barca or Real tonight? How can we expect him to stay when he is getting that sort of service in big games like that. Walcott completely anonymous, pulled at half time & frankly lucky to last that long. Don’t want to go too overboard, but really feels… Read more »

What a crap performance, we are the Arsenal not Euro Minnow FC. Everyone was crap from SCZC to RvP were poor for the first 60 minutes. What the hell were they playing at? AC MIlan deserves to score more than that. What an utter joke!!

Cygan's Left Foot

Where to start, now we will get all the non caring “supporters” accepting humiliation and finding excuse, we already have a loser in the top of the page blaming the pitch!!!!!. Why don’t we call it as it is. it was the wrong team he picked, what is really Ramsey and theo for? Why Le Coq and the OX did not start????? We have a manager that massage the ego of those losers and we are getting a humiliation after another. Comedian

I watched the whole game.

Comedian

“We will go there to attack” didnt do that.
Would have like to see us defend didnt do that either.

Bunburyist

I’m still trying to get over the fact you watched the whole game.

Chaplin35

Tactically totally wrong, we should have started with ox and theo in wide positions. Rosicky was pretty much the only threat in the middle but he was supposed to a wide player, instead, he drifted in every single time. I think we went down the left only twice in this game. Cause ox wasn’t playing then theo couldn’t swap his sides with anyone and it affected him as well.
So, tactially we got it wrong I think

Josh

No conviction is what you’re looking for. Where the fuck was the determination? We are royally screwed this weekend if we don’t pick ourselves up.

paddymac

Sunderland in the FA cup is a different prospect to AC Milan at the San Siro in the CL. Stay positive and get begin the team at the weekend.

paddymac

*behind

Cygan's Left Foot

Get behind the team? which team, play the kids I would go behind them 100% those who played today don’t care and have no pride to play for our great club.

Most of those losers should be dropped before we can get behind the team, the OX and Henry came on and they look like they care, I swear I have seen Ramsey while 2 nil down trying a fucking shit trade mark flick.

Spooner

Did you go, Paddymac?

paddymac

Spooner, what do you mean? Did I go to the San Siro? No, I didn’t. What’s your point?

Butthead

Yeah I’m not sure how theo swapping to the left to do absolutely fuck all would’ve changed anything. That man is everything that is wrong with this team at the moment, players who can only produce when all the moons are in the right order.

Fuck, even the pessimistic side in me didn’t expect this result.

Runcorn Gooner

Gutless ,spineless and absolute disgrace.

Glenn Helder

Pay peanuts – have you gone wrong?

If anything it’s the total opposite. Massively overpaying some pretty average players is one of our supposed issues with which i’d actually agree.

oops

Pathetic, yes the goals involved offsides, slips, deflections and dives but we offered absolutely nothing! NOTHING! No creativity no passion and no effort!

Very annoyed!

Gandalf

Our team was totally crap, no1 played well and besides you could really see what mert brings to our defense

jim jimminy

excuse my language but why the f**k did walcott get on the plane. He wants a pay rise…

I can’t think of a current arsenal player i’d rather not see on the pitch. Bring back perry groves.

I don’t know why i thought something special might be on the cards tonight. How stupid am i.

Look forward to saturday without are cb pairing.

Butthead

I’ve had it with Walcott (3 games ago). Ssick of seeing him in an Arsenal jersey, throwing his hands up like he’s Thierry… Asking for a pay rise like he’s done anything.. he only gets assists because it’s RvP there. Anyone would get a bunch of fkn assists if they just aimlessly hit the ball into the box and RvP was there to predict where his aimless balls go.

jim jimminy

exactly my feelings. I’m fed up of watching him jump out of 50/50s, not challenge for headers, and constantly passing the ball back to RB because he’s either scared or clueless as to what he has to do.

Obviously tonight wasnt just his fault, but he needs to wake up and get his head out of his arse.

Assists or no assists he absolutely does not deserve to wear the cannon. He’s a disgrace to 125 years of history.

Cygan's Left Foot

Why are we blaming Theo?????? He doesn’t force the manager to pick him or extend his contract and with pay rise from 60k to 80k. Blame the one that deserves the blame why shoot the messenger???????????????????????

Pigsinspace

It’s obvious the players don’t wanna play for the manager anymore… Why break our bollox every year to get into the CL and do that… Club in decline I’m very sad tonight

Cygan's Left Foot

Because all we want to do is to make money, that is why.

didn’t you hear “fourth place is a trophy” AKA money making so I don’t get sucked and earn my 7 million a year.

pigsinspace

unfortunately this year i don’t think we’ll even make 4th… I don’t think I’ve ever been so dejected about an arsenal squad.. i know we’re missing Jack but our passing game is gone its dead, our attack depends on one guy and if he gets injured we just won’t get goals… lets face it we scraped by on sunday we were lucky.. Arsene is just masking the problems there is no mental strength, no winning mentality we’re in decline and no one in the clubs management seems to care cos the bank balance looks healthy… is this football or fucking… Read more »

Well i’ve seen better performance’s from teams in the Europa League thats how bad we were. It’s just the same old Arsenal though some days there’s that fight and determination to win. But a lot of the time we go behind and our heads dropped we got totally schooled today.

BobT

Credit where credit is due, that’s to the Arsenal fans who made the trip out there. That was one of the worst performances I have seen in a while. Yes the pitch was bad, but Milan were falling over too. We were doing the simple things badly, at that’s what is so annoying. We watched Ramsey keep (over) hitting it to nobody on at least two occasions, under no pressure. We didn’t look interested, I don’t remember Arteta’s name being mentioned today.

Mooro

A 34 year old loanee from the US put the rest to shame in the effort he put in. Total shockers everywhere else you looked.

Can I just add that Clive Tylsdley or however the fuck you spell it is a 24 carat, top of the range, Man U supporting, fuck-faced, bollock brained, shit commentator cunt.

Sorry had to get that off my chest.

AMURICAH

I was swearing at the commentator the whole game, he was an unproffessional ultra cunt, slagging off our team, regardless of how complete and utter shit we play isn’t what he should be doing. Saying players like Djourou are a mistake waiting to happen and not good enough are a low blow and he would never say it to his face so why bother saying it behind his back. In conclusion he’s a fucking cunt.

Boris Pimple

ITV commentator is always a total cunt. As is Adrian Chiles. Fucking cunt.

Spooner

Tyldesley. I think.

Bobby Pires

Bergkamp was right.
We were so predictable, Milan kept switching Ibra, Prince and Robinho and Koscielny seemed to be the only guy who could deal with it..
Walcott could only stay on the right and was completely invisible, Thiago Silva had RVP in his pocket.

Still gotta keep the faith but it’s difficult to when you think, Sp*rs would have done much better.

Merdebag

Arsenal were just not up for it tonight, whatever the reason that’s worrying enough in itself..
Ibrahimovic was pretty much unplayable though

AFC

Indeed and we almost signed that guy years ago… but according to a certain manager he wasn’t good enough for the first team.

Lee

Actually, Wenger only asked him to have a trial and he told Wenger to do one

Bobby Pires

Wenger asked the Malmo coach (his coach) for him to trial, and he said ‘Ibra doesnt do trials’, and he went to Ajax.
Cocky bastards.

Bendtners_ego

Must have been the yellow kits. :/

Dannyboy

Stop making excuses about the pitch. Our defence is a joke and once Kos went off injured we were back to the team that started the season. We are now in big trouble for finishing 4th and I can’t see us getting anything from the FA cup next week as we don’t have a defence. We spent more time passing backwards and side ways tonight, the complete opposite to what Wenger would have us believe about our attacking play before the game. Sagna had a shocker, Ramsey seemed hellbent on playing the Wimbledon game and had Milan been that little… Read more »

Josh

That’s one terrifying Milan team though, I can’t remember their squad being this good since their CL winning squad. Kudos to them.

I don’t think the pitch was anything to blame for. They played on the same pitch but played better on it. No excuse can be made for this we played like some sunday league and tactically we played right into their hands.

paddymac

Agreed, we were poor, Milan were clinical. They gave us a lesson out there tonight.

I wish people would keep perspective though rather than jumping immediately on here and posting so much bullshit. Gotta move on and build on our mini-run of form in the league/FA cup now. COYG.

Jay

Mate, this time last year spurs played that side without there best player Bale and still won 1-0, Milan had almost exactly the same team out, Boateng, Thiago Silva, Robinho, Ibrahimovic all played, they even had Gattuso who would have started ahead of Nocerino….

They aint good we are just terrible, now we have lost our best player Koz for the spurs game its going to be bloody awful, I cant belive how shaky TV was tonight he looked more comfortable when he switched to LB

Josh

Tell me why I should give a fuck about spurs and I tell you why I don’t care.

Cygan's Left Foot

Jay,

Don’t worry ..some will blame the pitch, some will say AC Milan is the best team in the world, some already blaming EVEN the ITV panels. They will blame anyone but the players and the man that got 7 million a year who picked them.

AFC

TV was indeed unusually bad/shaky tonight.

We made an average team look great. What the fuck was that?

paddymac

Top of Serie A. Clinical finishing, sharp attack play, high energy pressing and closing down.

How can you say they’re an average side?

Thorough

@Paddymac. Watch them play Barca some months back and you’ll know why. Barca had no defense but scored anytime they needed to, mostly after Ac equalizes. They scored 3, could have scored a hatful. And dont start with the ‘every-team-looks-bad-against-Barca’ attitude because you guys make them sound ethereal when they are actually a team we should be competing with, a team we nearly beat with a man down in the Lehmann era, a team we beat coming from behind in the Cesc era.

paddymac

Barca are head and shoulders above any team in Europe, we all know that. “some months back” – fair enough, but this is here and now. Fact is, they’re top of their league, played out of their skins and you just cannot say they’re an average side. Aston Villa are an average side. Sevilla are an average side. Fiorentina are an average side. AC Milan aren’t an average side – they’re not Barcelona but they’re above average, you can’t argue that you morons. Look, I’m as disappointed as everyone else, we were shit and I’m sad that we can’t compete… Read more »

@Paddymac. What I am trying to say is that we should be able to compete with this AC milan team if we are set out well. You will be amazed when they come to the Emirates and the coach does benches Ramsey, put two good wingers on, put Rosicky in the midfield where he’s most effective. Thats when you’ll realize how bare their team is and how error-prone their backline is. But if we clip our very own wings and allow Antonini and Nocerino join the attack we are in for a drubbing. I still reiterate, they are not half… Read more »

I have always disliked people who say this, but Wenger is deluded if he thinks this side can compete with the best in Europe. For the first time in 10 years as a supporter, I was frustrated today. No one will ever blame him here, they blame Theo and Ramsey in EVERY game but never blame the man who keeps picking them.

They don’t EVEN blame him for signing Park and why is he still taking a place in our 25 players, he doesn’t want to de-list him because he would have to sign a player with a money that he want to keep to save his job!!!!.

Do you know the Spuds signed Saha for free on about 30K pay as you play deal????

CanGunn444

Absolutely awful performance…
One has to hope that the players were saving themselves for the FA this Saturday… Won’t be able to complain of fatigue as we clearly weren’t arsed tonight and just went through the motions…

Hmmm-absolute shite all round,only Koscielny & Rosicky worth more than 3 out of 10.Vermaelen & Sagna were awful,Walcott was…Walcottish,Song & Arteta has poor games,& Ramsey…oh dear.

Pele of Romford

Gotta disagree fella, it ain’t Wenger. He don’t go out there and then be afraid of playing. Simple. But he will face up to us and our questions for players. Now they’ll hide behind fucking twitter and other selected mediums giving us shitty sounbites. The only person who will get stick is Wenger. I won’t have it this time. Milan were 4 goals better than us. I can accept that. What I can’t accept is these overpaid cunts passing it sideways and then bottling it. Dennis was spot on. We need a clear out. End of. That was embarrassing, but… Read more »

Josh

I feel the same as you do. The players betrayed Wenger’s trust tonight and now he is going to get a landslide of shit because the player can’t do their jobs tonight.

I rather lose 10 times with players giving 110% than lose once with that kinda shit on the pitch.

AR

Exactly my thoughts as well, now when the manager faces the press every comment he makes will be dissected and analyzed to eternity and shrugged off as an excuse or him whining. The fact is while this team lacks quality and that can be almost entirely down to Wenger, the players out there are more than capable of playing at a higher level and doing much much better than losing the way they did. The painful part is, 0-4 isn’t so much the issue, it’s the way we lost and the way every one of those players gave up that… Read more »

Cygan's Left Foot

How about us supporters facing all the stick at work and with people we know after all this season humiliation?????

I am sure the man that you feel sorry for the pay check end of the week that mount to about 150K will help him recover from few difficult questions and carry on with his mad youth experience.

Josh

CLF, you miss my point slightly. I don’t mean that Wenger is not to be blame but I feel after a performance like this it is only fair the players should get the blame too. All of them need a good kicking.

I just think that most of the blame are disproportionate and skewed. Like how most people blame Walcott and Ramsey even though Arteta and Vermaelen were both equally poor. Our players are meant to be the “leaders” and “professionals” and if so they should be blame as much as Wenger should if not more for this match.

Cygan's Left Foot

I know Josh, sorry my replay was to AR. you were spot on.

AR

CLF, the embarrassment is something we can’t run from and I’d feel just as bad even if Wenger was doing the job for free. What he earns isn’t the issue. I am not saying he’s not to blame, of course he’s in charge of the team and he’s assembled the squad; however, the squad hasn’t worsened or changed overnight, barring the Walcott/OX selection conundrum pretty much all the players were on the field against Sunderland. If these players can’t accommodate a tactical change and/or conservative approach and play accordingly I feel it reflects more on them than the manager… It… Read more »

Thorough

@Pele of Romford. You are the coach mate, would you play a defensive game against an ageing team yet keep your best speedy winger on the bench? Will you bring in your worst defender on a day when you are chasing a match, and your defensive midfielder who copes well with central defense is having a pathetic game? Would you have brought in Ox or Coq for Kos and send Song into central defense? Will you purpote to have one single, injury-prone striker to play all the 58games in a season or make an alternative available? Will you have a… Read more »

Hindsight is a brilliant thing.

goonerO

everyones got 20-20 hindsight eh?

Nayeem

Arsene not to blame?? the players didn’t pick themselves for the game, the manager did. Face it, this squad of players JUST IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH to play at this level. the team has gone from bad to worse over the years and the manager has to take responsibility.

Cygan's Left Foot

Why is he the manager then if he is not to blame??????????

Oh it is like errrr the blind leading the blind.

Mike Hawke

And lest we forget: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kONmDCla6Nc
Don´t worry, we´ll score 5 at home, simple. Anything can happen in football and really, what’s life without hope?
*curses while he punches pillow and rips it apart*

Cygan's Left Foot

If that will keep you happy and stop you taking them, keep telling yourself that.

Wat a disgrace……with Ramsey playing trash

AR

Well played MIlan but like many have said the entire team was terrible. Some of our more consistent players had a horrible time – Szcz, TV5, and to a lesser extent Sagna and RVP. While playing The OX would have been a great decision in hindsight, I can see why Rosicky was put out on the left as Gibbs coming back from injury probably needed more protection on that side of the pitch. Having said that however, there’s absolutely no case for Walcott starting ahead of The Ox on the other flank. Beyond that though, I can`t blame Wenger for… Read more »

Young Gooner

Gibbs needed protection? I think Ox has more than enough to give the protection. Rosicky obviously out of position and keep going to the middle of the pitch, pushing Ramsey to the right side. Gibbs became all alone there. Too many times we allowed them to shoot from out left side because Rosicky wasn’t there. Even Arteta, a positional disciplined player keep going to the left because we have no player there. I blamed the players as well as the manager for letting us exposed from the start.

Gunnersaurus

How shit was Ramsey? The likes of Patrick Viera, Tony Adams and Keown would never in a million years allow a performance like that.I didn’t see any fight and grit and tbh some of the goals were unfair but we didn’t deserve anything from that.I just hope our season doesn’t go downfrom here.

rahulv

Someone should ban rosiscky from shooting, lmfao when his shot went for throw in though I was fucking depressed and wanted throw remote at tv.

brook

i can’t believe Arsenal is capable of playing this poor under wenger!

goonerO

Now, I could sit here and vent about how shit we have just played. But I am now officially worried, the beer goggles have been removed from our eyes and our lads have been put in their place by lets be honest the MUCH better side on the night. Dennis Bergkamp, legend that he was never won the champions league, a crime for one of worlds best ever talents, but he knew that arsenal football club, he was surrounded by a host of world class players, and therefore never left. Hand on heart, who in the current Arsenal squad will… Read more »

Pele of Romford

Oh yea, any cunt who mentions anything about that mob down the road or how they would of done: go and fucking support them.

Apparently you can become the best team in london by winning fuck all.

Rich

Excellent first comment about overpaid players not turning up, shit second comment to fall back on the ‘go support Spurs’ line. No-one here wants to support Spurs – ever.

Josh

I rather bite on a cyanide pill than supporting a team with a cock on a ball any day

Spooner

Steady on Rich. Some cunt said spurs would have done better.

OOKed

“Apparently you can become the best team in london by winning fuck all.” ..

Eh ?? … is this directed at the spuds ? … shouldn’t this remark be directed at us as well ? .. how many fucks did we win since 06 then ?

AR

We’ve won 0 since ’06 but 22 since 1961 when they did the double. I don’t know if they have won 2 or 3 trophies in the last 50 years but honestly I don’t care..they’ll have to be consistently above us in the table every season and in the CL for a good few years before they can even come close to us. They’re having a good season, tonight was nothing to do with them….we played badly and we lost. I don’t see why anyone needs to say that some other team would have done better, because frankly it makes… Read more »

Trevor

Way she goes.

Milan are top of Serie A for a reasion, Arsenal are 4th for a reason. I didn’t see the game, but saw the goals. Unfortunate for the 3rd goal, and Djourou – uggh.

Gervinho to score 5 in the return leg.

Tomislav

if this is the life, why does it feel so good to die today?

paddymac

Whoa.

Super optimist

Come on guys, lets just blame the pitch injuring kosceilny, he would have stopped all the goals, and then miraculously scored the winner…5-0 in the emirates we just need the forehead back. COYG

paddymac

heh, maybe we could just block our goal with his entire forehead. We can’t afford to concede an away goal!

Nubbles

It’s humiliating enough to lose by four, but to send Henry home with this kind of performance is simply disgraceful.

Worse still. I seriously hope Kos will be okay. Just when we thought we are leaving our Full Back problems behind, our Centre Backs are fucked now.

Nate

Pitch was crap…but at this point I can’t even say that is an excuse for how bad the team played. Van Persie had a couple chances to make the tie interesting…Ox and Kos showed some flashes but other than that everyone played like crap. I’m disappointed to be an Arsenal fan right now. I except some major changes in the lineup for the next game on Saturday but I doubt it will happen.

CAGooner

Pitch was crap for both sides.

Theoptimist

Yes, but they scored their goals through the centre…mainly. We had Gibbs knocking in crosses…we score 1% of our goals from crosses!

Deanodoes

I love Wenger but I’m sick of this team breaking all our records for poor results this season. It’s time to move on and get a coach in who at least adapts his formation from game to game. That was absolutely abysmal, why did our centre halts refuse to tackle that big Swedish prick the entire match. Worst performance of the season. Ps what is true point of Ramsey? One paced, loses possession and has no cutting edge. Not food enough.

Mike Hawke

Yes, I agree. He’s not food enough.

H. P. Arsecraft

No big balls in this team and the small balls are shrinking to peanuts when they meet any kind of team with a reputation. “Mental toughnes” my arse this is a team of overpaid and overrated kids and no leaders on or off the pitch.

Why the f**k is Walcott still in the team?

MistaKen

Hold on to your hats boys there’s more abuse to come in the second leg. Wait till we meet Spurs too they are going to piss all over us

vengersukk

mediocre players like rosicky, walcott, ramsey, djourou and song turned us into crapsenal.. nothing more!! Thanks to wenger for all these 7 shitty years and constant lies
