Nelson heaps praise on new boss Ljungberg

Reiss Nelson has spoken positively about Arsenal’s new under-23s coach Freddie Ljungberg, following their 1-1 draw with an experienced Brighton side on Monday night.

Despite his side losing 6-5 in their first game of the season to Manchester City and conceding a late equaliser against the Seagulls at the Emirates, the Swede has made a good impression on the teenage attacker.

“He’s a great coach, and I think he’s got very high standards for the young group that we have,” Nelson told Arsenal.com.

Ljungberg, who had a brief spell as Wolfsburg assistant manager whilst the German club were managed by former Arsenal Academy manager Andries Jonker, has also placed a big emphasis on pressing, according to Nelson.

“We worked on a lot of pressing from the front”, he said of the team’s new compactness.

Arsenal under-23s, who are reigning Premier League 2 champions, next face West Ham United on Friday night.

Freddie seems to be a very much ‘on his feet’ style manager, he didn’t seem to sit down during the game. I also like that he wears shorts, channelling his inner Vic Akers.

That’s nice to hear Reiss, now here’s a pen, sign that contract.

I would like to see Reiss get a chance in the first squad. As I have mention ad tedium and will mention again, I did not think (Whatever Adrian Clarke feels, respectfully disagree) that Mhkitaryan was our main man at Stamford Bridge. He was OK for a 10 minute spell and came up with the assist and a goal. BUT the 80 odd minutes either side went missing or misplaced the most passes in the team and did not provide sufficient cover for Bellerin. That said, Nelson has his own risk chiefly in youth/inexperience. So we will have to pick… Read more »

I’m with you on doubling up on full backs, we’ve done to good effect over the years on both flanks (Clichy & Cole together at times, often Eboue & Sagna), even if it tended to be back 4 and a midfield 4. Bellerin’s ability to quickly join attacks and stretch the play could be crucial against teams where we would be facing sustained pressure.

MAGA. Make Arsenal great again.
