So…it’s six wins on the trot as Unai Emery’s Arsenal extended their unbeaten run into a third competition with a 3-1 victory against a spirited Brentford side in the Carabao Cup.
The Gunners coasted to the break courtesy of Danny Welbeck’s brace, however, momentum swung the way of the visitors after the break when Alan Judge superbly converted a free-kick just before the hour mark.
Arsenal had to be on their guard as the Championship side flooded forward but they weathered the storm before substitute Alex Lacazette killed things off in stoppage time.
After the match, Emery faced the Sky Sports cameras where he touched on the performance, played up Danny Welbeck’s chances of a Premier League chance and emphatically dismissed rumours that he’d stopped Mesut Ozil from meeting Germany coach Joachim Loew on Monday.
On the test provided by Brentford…
It was a very good test. It was a very good opportunity for the team to continue improving, to continue creating with our style. Also today, a team in the Championship but with a very good performance and demanding a lot of us in the 90 minutes. I think we can do more things in the 90 minutes like we want but when they scored it was difficult for 15 minutes after this goal. I think it’s good for us, it continues to test us in difficult moments and we can do our best response. I think the third goal is very good for finishing the match.
On Danny Welbeck’s performance…
His commitment is very big. We are very happy with him. He’s helping when the team needs his performance. I think today, he’s very good for the team, for us. We have one player more for Saturday who I think can stay [in the team]. The two goals are very important for him and the team.
On whether he was concerned when Brentford scored…
It’s important to stay calm and continue controlling the match with the ball and good positioning and to keep pressing. It’s not easy because we lost a bit of confidence and also they won confidence for continue pushing and finding the second goal. I think in the last few minutes we stopped their good moment and continued trying to score and we did that.
On six wins in a row…
I usually don’t look behind. I look forward at every moment. I look at the next match and prepare as well as possible for the next match and that’s Saturday against Watford. We do the next match analysis and continue to improve and work on the things we need to improve. When you win, it’s easier to do.
On allegedly barring Germany coach Joachim Loew from meeting Mesut Ozil…
I didn’t read the news but I heard they are saying, I don’t know where, I didn’t let Mesut meet him. It’s not true. It’s easy to say that here. I have no problem. It’s not true. It’s not true. It’s not true that I didn’t let Mesut meet with Loew. It isn’t true. It is not true. Ok. It’s very easy. It’s very easy for me to say that to you.
Is it true that he said ‘it’s not true’ repeatedly?
It is true
It’s not true because from what I know it’s not true. It’s not true!
I heard that if you say it 6 times, it means it is true.
I heard that if you win 6 times in a row, you can say whatever the hell you like and it’s true.
It’s not true
Damn, Emery almost sounds like Johnny in The Room.
“I did not bar him, its not true, it’s bulls**t, I did not bar him, I did nooot.”
Oh hai Mesut
So if it’s not true a journalist for a newspaper lied
The media lying? Shock horror. That’s never happened before ever!
Is it true that he did not let Lowe meet Ozil?
Feel Welbz has a role to play. He adds something different for us. BUT frankly the CF position should be Lacazette and then Welbeck. If Auba is to cut in from wing, there is also a good case for Alex Iwobi. He offers better balance for the team. No coincidence when he plays, most of our play comes in from left side. This team is unbalanced at the moment and dependent on fullbacks to surge forward bc of the nature of most of our attacking assets. Therefore we tend NOT to transition as efficiently. Again this is largely due to… Read more »
It’s unbelievable some times to think the media company / organization / individuals over there can get away with such lies – repeatedly. Is not there any law that should prevent these allegations to start with?
Sorry off topic.

Is Carragher still on Liverpool’s books. Seems to want to always weaken the opposition, never hear him talk this way concerning Liverpool players. Come on Carragher, spit it out!!
The media may have got away with some clicks. But need to eat shit for the rest of their lives.
Class reaction from Emery on the inevitable Özil question. ?
