Goals mean gongs for Auba and Rambo

Aaron Ramsey’s impudent backheeled finish in Arsenal’s 5-1 win over Fulham has been crowned the Premier League’s best goal in October while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal-scoring performances have sealed him the division’s player of the month award.

Ramsey came off the bench to make an instant impact at Craven Cottage ending a fantastic move that saw the Gunners work the ball, via various tricks and flicks, from the halfway line to the back of the net.

Speaking to the Premier League’s official website about his tasty strike, Ramsey said: “Auba crossed the ball and it was slightly behind me so I had to try and adjust, and that was the thing that came into my mind first, to try and flick it back towards goal. Thankfully, it went in.

“I think we’ve been renowned for scoring some really good goals as a team and that was just another example.

“I was delighted to be a part of it and finish it off, and it’s definitely right up there [with my best goals],” he added.

Aubameyang was similarly delighted to see his influence on Arsenal’s unbeaten October rewarded. The Gabon international may not have played as much as he’d have liked, but he still netted five times; an impressive return.

“I’m just trying to improve every day, trying to work a lot but I’m happy to be here in the Premier League and I try to do my best,” said the 29-year-old. “I can do better.”

“We have to continue on the way we are doing things,” he said. “I hope we will finish in the first four. It would be good to qualify for the Champions League.”

Really please for Auba, could have had the goal of the season if Ramsey’s wasn’t so good. And for us, given it’s rare we get players of the season recently.

Pedant

Or players of the month!

Santori

Also a great goal involving all 10 outfield players.

I don’t think Auba minds so long as he keeps netting.

Likely there is a friendly competition (bet) between him and Laca as to who ends with most goals this season. With the unfortunate Welbeck out, both Laca and Auba will have to take turns up top.

When we play with Auba, we need to recognise his strengths running into the box and compensate for his play a little. He’s a different type of striker from Laca.

Santori

In fact, it may be that Auba is a second half striker. Where Laca has more strength to his game, Auba likes to run in on goal. We have benefit of the game opening up second half when many teams tend to drop their initial intensity/enthusiasm on us. Which is why we reap more goals second half. It may be the case that should we want to play either striker, we could have Auba come in second half to overload either with Laca or directly on his own but with someone who can fill in the gap in front should… Read more »

It doesn’t seem right to award a single player for a goal like that.

Kabu

It’s fair in this case though, right? Ramsey was involved the most in that goal.

Santori

Just a superb goal the Ramsey one.

Over the years there have been fantastic team goals through the Wenger era despite failings otherwise in league etc.

Its great to see we are retaining this characteristic and also tightening up now defensively (although still work in progress)

Clearly Gazidis and company appointed us the right successor for the job.

Cliff Bastin

Exactly! Hand out awards to all of them.

yen

When was the last time we had POTM and who was it?

yen

Found it – Oli G in March 2015!

arsepedant

And yet Oli’s magical scorpion kick goal that won the Puskas award as the best goal of the year in the whole world, didn’t win PL goal of the month for January 2017!

JamesKim

He meant player of the month!
I’d be willing to bet money it was Alexis

Devlin

Don’t forget it was a team goal and not just a Ramsey goal. He gets on the end of a lot of those kinds of moves, just like his goal in the Europa League last season.

Francesc

Laca is the man though. Each of his goals have been absolutely world class and vital at the same time.

Auba sure has been scoring but most of his goals have been easy tap ins or when the game has already been done and dusted. He needs to pitch in more at crucial times and take the load off laca.

viegunner

Agreed, i’m a little surprised Auba was voted player of the month of the whole PL when I thought he wasn’t even our best player!

yen

It’s eventually an easy tap in if you’re positioning is right though!

Devlin

According to whoscored.com Laca has been our best player this season. So it is not just what our eyes see, but he is statistically our best player as well.

Funny thing is, Mustafi is statistically our second best player. He was also the best defender in the premier league last season. Shows how Mustafi’s brain farts take away all the good work he does. He plays very well and then, makes a dumb mistake. I wonder how good he would be if he cut out those silly errors.

Georgeycharles

I know nothing about these things, but according to my son, Auba being awarded player of the month, is at least partly linked to the consequences this has in the “Fifa Football” video game. If so, I really don’t understand…

Rich

Aubameyang being in the right place at the right time is no accident.
He’s a world class penalty box striker who’s wasted out wide, having two top class No9s is a great problem to have. But forcing Aubameyang out on the left doesn’t get the best out of him, or the best out of our forward line.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Niles a run at right midfield.

Top_Gun

Aubameyang’s strength is, in fact these back post finishes which requires clever anticipation and movement. Contrary to common opinion here I do think he works on the left side of the three, if Iwobi could somehow replicate his form on the right hand side we have a REALLY lethal first eleven.

First post, COYG

Santori

The best thing is we are still playing Wengerball with Unai. He’s come in, tweaked the deficiencies but without sacrifice to the beautiful game Wenger introduced. There’s a character to our game, an Arsenal way of playing things that has not been lost. We are no rediscovering the other side, the grit and defensive unity that has sadly not been addressed for so long. Iwobi or Mustafi mentioned this in his interview in that when we attack now, we are all attacking players and when we defend, we are all defenders. And you can see it with the high press… Read more »

Laca-Sead

Well done to them! Love the mentality of the team in general. We have some world class players who start to show their true class. The team oozes class, I’m rhappy ( Unai accent)!

MTGooner

The Ramsey goal actually started about a yard from the Arsenal end-line when Bellerin picked up the ball as the Fulham player fell down and played it to Ramsey who had busted arse to get in position for Hector to play the pass in the first place. Ramsey’s first pass to Laca and then his chip back to him may have been the best two passes of the whole movement.

Carl

Halfway line? They started it inside our box, the magnificient sumbishes.

Longfellow

You mean your happy to be here… at Arsenal, right Auba!
