Aaron Ramsey put us ahead, Lacazette missed chances, Mustafi did a Mustafi and Kane equalised, and Aubameyang’s weak spot kick at the death cost us two points.

We didn’t win because of two weak strikers. No matter what anyone thinks Lacazatte and Aubameyan are our problems. Lacazatte is not what 10mil. He misses 20 chances before he puts one in. Rowe Smith and Nikkitia should be give a chance next season. Fame has gone to Aubameyan’s head. He spends more time styling his hair than football. These two caused us the win today.

I don’t know…I thought he was careless with the ball and was out of position too often. We were lucky Spuds didn’t target his side.
Not a big fan of his, but “careless with the ball” is a bit harsh given that he’s a centre back being asked to play further upfield and against the touchline against one of the highest intensity teams in world football. He did ok with the ball for a CB playing RB. And his defending was mostly solid. Then he gave away that dumb penalty (but it WAS soft and it WAS offside!).
I kinda agree. Felt like Mustafi didn’t do much wrong on the right side, at least defensively he was fine. The crosses was somewhat lacking, as expected, but without the penalty he would have been more than fine. In my opinion we did great in defense today, and didn’t let them create many chances. It happens in MLS. Although VAR limits their ability to flagrantly give wrong calls. They are still judgement calls, so a ref with poor or compromised ‘judgement’ might still call the Torreira – Rose crime the same way.

Laca’s first miss was hardly easy, and on his wrong foot, and came before he had settled into the match. The second half one is the one that will give him nightmares, but even there, I don’t think it was exactly a sitter. I really don’t see how Liverpool are that far ahead of us, unless it is regarding the tactical side. Their squad is not better than ours and most of their players are protected by their system e.g. Robertson, Gnabry showed his weaknesses.

He deserved a big win today, which would have bought him so much goodwill today from the fans.
He got an extra bit of goodwill from me anyway, not that he needed it. I thought other than a few missed great chances and the game changing ‘decisions’ both by referees and Mustafi, he had the team well up for it and prepared for the day.

Sure, but strikers have off days. We should take encouragement from the way the team was set up, the way we played as a unit and that there seemed to be a clear belief and understanding of what the manager is trying to do. If we play that well against united but our strikers have a better day we have every chance.
Exactly Dobby…I know it’s easy to say, but as fans we need to see this season as an adventure that may end with a happy ever after…and if it doesn’t…we go again. Next season you can bet that Emery will have a much better command of the PL and English (not that the last part matters too much..Harry Kane’s survived without it). 7. He messed up the subs. Auba brought nothing more than Lacasette had – not even converting chances. I was surprised by the Özil sub – what would he bring in such an intensive, fighty game?
Lacazette wouldn’t have got in the chance to win that penalty and Ozil is a natural fit with Aubameyang/Ramsey looked tired. No real complaints with the subs, but auba let him down with that penalty.
His subs were spot on. Ozil on to pump creativity for the tired minds, Auba on to get behind the defence with his pace, especially with Laca yet again missing sitters, and Torreria there to pop the zit that is Ericsson who was probably their only player capable of dominating us. Had the individual fuckups, however characteristic they might be of the player or Arsenal, not happened… we would be all be lying back with a cigar saying I love it when a plan comes together.

Aside from the shove on Kane, Mustafi was OK defensively. But he was awful in attack and crossing. AMN or Jenks would have been better.

Mustafi is a fighter and puts in all he’s got in every game. But he is not a good defender. Tody, again he often ended in mid-distance when they attacked – neither following an opponent nor shielding. And he never, never has any awareness of players running in behind him.

They were there for the taking. And we almost took them. A fine performance that we might not have expected a few weeks ago, and the fact that we are disappointed with a draw says a lot about how we’ve bounced back.

The guy scores on set pieces, he’s athletic, and when he’s focused he is very good. I understand what we saw in him. But he has amazingly poor judgment way too often, and he switches off several times a game. At this point, it’s not youthful errors, it’s a clinker in his footballing thinker and I don’t believe it’s curable.

I think VAR is applied brilliantly in rugby, I don’t know enough about basketball but I assume the nature of the sport lends it to being more influenced by VAR than others?
Agree 100% mate. DRS is also perfect in cricket. It simply a question of getting the logistics of the replay right so it doesn’t take too long. The on-field ref having to prance off to go and have his own private screening is a nonsense! IN rugby, the TMO has comms to the on-field ref and can advise him at any time. It worked brilliantly in the World Cup and W everywhere it has been used. It has been successful in tennis, rugby and cricket for many years and will virtually eliminate bad decisions. It is only Luddites like you that refuse to see the benefit of VAR.
I think American sport gets replay completely wrong, yet VAR seems to be pretty effective. So I get Walleye’s skepticism; from my exp with American sport, I’d rather be replayless.
The key is, just like with the rest of the refereeing rulebook, how they apply the standards. In MLS, the only real problem I have with how they use it comes down to how they interpret one phrase:
CLEAR AND OBVIOUS ERRORS.
This is the standard they are supposed to use to determine if a call (or non-call) on the field should be overturned. In my opinion they get that wrong more than I would expect.
Also keep in mind, the official on the pitch makes the final call on the review. So, yeah, Mike Dean..
They did pretty well in the first half (though Xhaka should have gotten a yellow), but how the linesman could have missed Kane (and at least one other Spud) being offside is inexplicable and inexcusable. He had ONE THING TO DO and he blew it.

Completely agreed with the lineup today, although Mustafi at RB predictably brought disaster eventually. I can only think Maitland-Niles was considered not fit enough for this game. My only gripe was the introduction of Ozil. He wasn’t terrible by any means, and he tried to work the play as best he could. Really didn’t think torreira deserved a straight red for that challenge. He got the ball first, it was follow through that got Rose. His studds were not showing initially, only when he kicked the ball his studds were facing Rose and also seemed more like Rose ran into him more than he catching rose.

Frankly, I would have taken a 1-1 at the start, but still I feel gutted, as we could have won this today. Some of the players were brilliant today – Leno, Kos, Papa, Mikhi, Monreal. I have seen very few saves as good as Leno’s second of the double save. ANd outstanding from Emery. This effort deserved a win – too bad we could not.

There isn’t anything wrong with mistakes. Every player makes mistakes. Obviously being a player in a defensive position you don’t want to make many but the there are different degrees of mistakes that are made and his are not the easiest ones to forgive.
I agree he was solid up to that point and jenks(my choice if he was fit enough to play back to back games) wouldn’t have fared better in terms of the position but the mistake I would doubt he would have made.
The problem with Mustafi’s position for the penalty was that he was the wrong side, but he was only the wrong side because Kane was offside so in fact he was positioned perfectly. The problem was the linesman didn’t do his job
Leno has been excellent the past few weeks. He took him a while to get going but he is looking more and more like the real deal.
Also, I have been on the Emery is not the right guy bandwagon but I have to give him credit for his strategy for this game. It was very well thought out

2/10 for Mustafi is very harsh. Ok agreed very poor challenge but it was offside. Apart from that he played well at not his normal position. I very much doubt if Jenkinson or Lichtsteiner would of coped well in this game and for me Mustafi is probably our best option even over AMN at this position. Ozil has always been known as a playmaker, not a goal scorer. Your striker should be the person to get the chance on a penalty kick, and of course be expected to score on it. What the hell does Ozil have to do with Auba’s missed penalty.

Again, your comment is moronic. Who refers to him as a dead ball specialist besides yourself? Simply looking at his stats shows he doesn’t lose the ball easily under pressure. He actually is very good at making quick passes under pressure. The biggest issues when another team presses is his teammates finding him and feeding a pass to him up the pitch.

I feel for the manager on this one. Tactically spot on, spurs didn’t cause us any real problems outside from the penalty. I’m both really encouraged and totally deflated. Hopefully we take it out on Rennes.

Kind of highlights my problem with Mustafi really, for most of that game he dealt with them fine down that side and Mkhitaryan helped him out a lot. Of course though, whatever good Mustafi does always seem to be undone by an absolute howler

Overall a decent performance but some poor moments robbed us of the opportunity to close the gap. Mustafi deserves credit for a largely decent performance. If he can cut out the daft moments, there is a pretty good, committed player there. Red cards. Rose and Torreira both yellow for me.
