Sp*rs 1-1 Arsenal – player ratings

There was actually a lot to like about what we did today, but when you give away a stupid needless penalty – with the aid of rubbish officiating – and then miss a glorious chance to win it in injury time, it feels like a gigantic kick in the balls.

Aaron Ramsey put us ahead, Lacazette missed chances, Mustafi did a Mustafi and Kane equalised, and Aubameyang’s weak spot kick at the death cost us two points.

Read the Sp*rs 1-1 Arsenal match report and see the goals here

Here’s how the players rated this afternoon.

Bob's Mexican Cousin

We should debut the negative rating on Mustafi today

La Défense

Still unable to process how on earth we didn’t win today…

Anonymarse

Shit officiating and Mustafi. Plus profligacy in front of goal.

Pretty standard I think.

Canador

We didn’t win because of two weak strikers. No matter what anyone thinks Lacazatte and Aubameyan are our problems. Lacazatte is not what 10mil. He misses 20 chances before he puts one in. Rowe Smith and Nikkitia should be give a chance next season. Fame has gone to Aubameyan’s head. He spends more time styling his hair than football. These two caused us the win today.

Anonymarse

Don’t watch Arsenal much do you

SharpasFc

Judging by the spelling it’s Tim Sherwood in disguise!

goonshow

Nah – spelling that bad must be Danny Murphy

Martin

I agree both strikers today missed chances but your comments are so OTT that they are laughable

'L' incoming

Shallow analisis…
Striker is a very much overvalued position because of this kind of reasoning, if you can call it that!

goonshow

You give him undue credit with the term ‘analysis’… or even analisis

'L' incoming

I down voted you only once! take it as a compliment, then go get a perspective man!

Ballz

He was having a 7.5 game until the shove!!! So stupid of him to do that.

Chris Siple

I don’t know…I thought he was careless with the ball and was out of position too often. We were lucky Spuds didn’t target his side.

PFo

Not a big fan of his, but “careless with the ball” is a bit harsh given that he’s a centre back being asked to play further upfield and against the touchline against one of the highest intensity teams in world football. He did ok with the ball for a CB playing RB. And his defending was mostly solid. Then he gave away that dumb penalty (but it WAS soft and it WAS offside!).

Hallvardio

I kinda agree. Felt like Mustafi didn’t do much wrong on the right side, at least defensively he was fine. The crosses was somewhat lacking, as expected, but without the penalty he would have been more than fine. In my opinion we did great in defense today, and didn’t let them create many chances. Huge game by Leno

George

7.5? C’mon Mrs. Mustafi, put the scotch bottle down and take a nap.

Northern Gooner

I’m sorry but im gonna go all mourinho today and blame the officials.

Yes, we (Mustafi, Lacazette and Auba) made mistakes but surely the biggest mistakes today were made by the officials?

How on earth our penalty wasn’t retaken for encroachment is beyond me.

Richard

And how on Earth Rose finished the game after that studs to the stomach against Leno and Torreira gets sent off is beyond me..on top of that they didn’t give the offside against their goal…i feel even with VAR next season, these refs will still construe to give the wrong decisions

Mpls

It happens in MLS. Although VAR limits their ability to flagrantly give wrong calls. They are still judgement calls, so a ref with poor or compromised ‘judgement’ might still call the Torreira – Rose crime the same way.

David C

And their goal was offside. Terrible defending. At least they tried to make it up to us with our penalty

NFI

VAR can’t come sooner

goonshow

Agreed – yes, one can argue the encroachment is seldom really applied as a rule, and that it’s one of the more ‘fussy’ laws… but when the it is done with 2-3 metres AND that encroaching player clearly and certainly prevents a goal being scored??? WTF?

Flash

Yes he was stupid, but today we lost the 2 points thanks not only to him, but (at least to the same extent) to our otherwise classy strikers too.
You just can’t miss so enourmous chances like they missed today.

PFo

Laca’s first miss was hardly easy, and on his wrong foot, and came before he had settled into the match. The second half one is the one that will give him nightmares, but even there, I don’t think it was exactly a sitter. Rather, in both cases it was the fact that he missed so badly, and didn’t even get his shots on frame, that’s so disappointing. If he had hit that second one well but just a little too close to Lloris, and it had been saved, I don’t think the fans would be as critical. And as pretty… Read more »

Red-Sky

Laca’s chances were easy. any top striker wouldv’e at least placed the first in the frame and scored the second.
But we love to overrate our players, don’t we.

SharpasFc

Consistency is what is needed…from the fans. Either our players are world class or duds…and neither is true.

Samson’s Birthday winner

Wrong foot? He isn’t in a pub league.

goonshow

Bollocks mate – you pay what we paid for Laca and Auba precisely so that they DO take those kind of chances. And most especially in a derby game that could take us to within a point of the arch-enemy! There is ZERO excuse for those misses – and the sooner we stop making them, the better.

Samgunz

Tbf the 2nd chance bobbled up as he hit it, even the commentator noted it.

Dispossessed by Torreira

10/10 for Ramsey’s ‘This is my fucking pitch’ celebration. Would probably be more enjoyable if we won though.

SharpasFc

Nah it’s still true. The fact I’ve not seen any Sp*rs fans giving it large on Twitter says that they are relieved they got anything out of the game.

Devlin

I loved the performance today.

Leno me, I’ll be your friend

I honestly think if we really get behind the lads there’s a shot at nipping ahead of Spurs. Man City and Liverpool exist on another level at present, but with our remaining ties there’s no reason to cower from the notion of reclaiming a certain Saint’s day ?

Anonymarse

They still have to play both so anything is possible

Devlin

I really don’t see how Liverpool are that far ahead of us, unless it is regarding the tactical side. Their squad is not better than ours and most of their players are protected by their system e.g. Robertson, Gnabry showed his weaknesses.

Our squad is better than Sp*rs. Look at the midfield they put out today and who their first choice players in midfield are.

PFo

If we beat United next week, then I agree. But that’s a big ‘if’.

Chippys chip

One kick away from making it a whole lot easier is hard to take and it feels like a defeat though.

Jorin

Before the match, a draw would have been great. But we had the chances to win it. Sigh!

On to the next one. Let’s hope we can defeat the Manchester scums.

Paul Roberts

We were better than them.

Keeping it Monreal

Can anyone explain how pochicunt and Kane thought they deserved to win today???

momozemio

Harry Kunt works as well 🙂

Leno me, I’ll be your friend

Can anyone explain that advert at half-time where Harry Kane was mummbling something incoherent whilst stood on a crossbar? It was supposed to be all arty in black and white, and I think there was rain, but it came across like a warped youtube video. Turned out it was for wet razors.. Maybe I’m missing the real depth of creativitity instilled in the piece, but all I could think was ‘Harry Kane can’t shave for shit though…’

Leno me, I’ll be your friend

Actually, I’m now concerned I imagined it. Can anyone confirm that it does in fact exist and that someone didn’t pour bath salts into my Rumbullion?

Dobby

To be fair, Kane doesn’t even understand 3 syllable words so you can only expect so much

PFo

WHAT?! I haven’t seen it–did they really have the gall/stupidity to claim they deserved to win???????????????

Red-Sky

Good game from (almost) everyone. We deserved a win.
The shit refereeing and the clowning inside both penalty boxes might just see us miss top 4 I’m afraid.

Anyhow, a shout out for Emery for the excellent management. Hope he gets some decent players in the next few windows. Top coach.

eternalflamini

He deserved a big win today, which would have bought him so much goodwill today from the fans.

Mpls

He got an extra bit of goodwill from me anyway, not that he needed it. I thought other than a few missed great chances and the game changing ‘decisions’ both by referees and Mustafi, he had the team well up for it and prepared for the day.

Dave Cee

I.. not sure. I felt we were too negative. Just my opinion, but after they equalised we seemed to come back to life and try to actually play

Vescucci

I’d have taken a point before the game and that’s all I’ll be telling myself all week. Utd is a must win now

Scwibble

Good way to look at it

YoungFabregas

This draw will only ‘look good’ if we can get the 3 pts from united.

YoungFabregas

Seriously? Why are people up voting this. Sp*rs have been an absolute shit show the last few games and were ready to be battered. We should of won this game by 2 goals and the only reason we didn’t was because our strikers fucking bottled it.

Although Auba and Laca are genuinely terrific strikers, Kane is unfortunately that next level better ffs

Matt P

Agree. Two points dropped. Which really could be critical in the top 4 race.

SharpasFc

No worse than our Goal Difference really. I believe we can win games but if we keep conceding goals it will be that that does for our top 4 chances.

Dobby

Sure, but strikers have off days. We should take encouragement from the way the team was set up, the way we played as a unit and that there seemed to be a clear belief and understanding of what the manager is trying to do. If we play that well against united but our strikers have a better day we have every chance.

SharpasFc

Exactly Dobby…I know it’s easy to say, but as fans we need to see this season as an adventure that may end with a happy ever after…and if it doesn’t…we go again. Next season you can bet that Emery will have a much better command of the PL and English (not that the last part matters too much..Harry Kane’s survived without it). IF we get the recruitment right I’m sure we will actually be challenging next season.

goonshow

top comment mate

Anonymarse

Blasphemy

SharpasFc

If Laca had been on he would have shown Auba how to take a penalty. Kane has to be good at pens because it seems to be the only way he can score these days. To say Sp*rs have been shit is not entirely true…their results have been shit!

At least Laca and Auba have given the fans something to moan about and that seems to be all that some people want to do these days!

ViennaGooner

I see it the same way. We were competetive. The Ref, Mustafi, Auba and Laca cost us a win.

La Défense

The frustration is mind-numbingly acute.

Red-Sky

No Torreira vs united is a big loss. Will be a tough game to win.

Chris Siple

Really tough red, I thought. I wasn’t even sure it was a foul, to be honest.

Leno me, I’ll be your friend

This is a card that should be rescinded/reduced to a yellow – especially given Rose got away with worse on a GK. If you want to see a real red card challenge check out Davison Sanchez on Koscielny around the 90th minute. Bodies were flat on our goal line, DS stamps on Kos’s ankle as he’s getting up, commentators ignored it but the FA should process a ban. Just hope it doesn’t go unnoticed. If there are Twitter users amongst you, find the clip, post it and beg the question to the FA how someone can get away with it.… Read more »

Guns Up

Exactly right. Dirty prick. Glad Kos is too cool of a character to have taken the bait. Kudos to him.

Anonymarse

He gets trodden on a lot

Martin

I hope we appeal. It was never close to being a red card. He won the ball and there was malicious intent

FMT

10/10 to Unai Emery for such tactical work

primfucker

7. He messed up the subs. Auba brought nothing more than Lacasette had – not even converting chances. I was surprised by the Özil sub – what would he bring in such an intensive, fighty game?

Dobby

Lacazette wouldn’t have got in the chance to win that penalty and Ozil is a natural fit with Aubameyang/Ramsey looked tired. No real complaints with the subs, but auba let him down with that penalty.

TOGooner

His subs were spot on. Ozil on to pump creativity for the tired minds, Auba on to get behind the defence with his pace, especially with Laca yet again missing sitters, and Torreria there to pop the zit that is Ericsson who was probably their only player capable of dominating us. Had the individual fuckups, however characteristic they might be of the player or Arsenal, not happened… we would be all be lying back with a cigar saying I love it when a plan comes together.

goonshow

Why not sub Iwobi instead ffs? Laca works a shiteload harder than him AND scores more goals…

Leno me, I’ll be your friend

Absolutely, I had my doubts when I saw the line up but barring some bad luck/knackers refereeing decisions we completely out played them at their ‘home’.
On a side note, it sucks that they’ve contaminated Wembley. I’ve not been since they moved in/started squatting. Just feels like it’d now have that vibe the final days of the travelling circus has, where you know all the carnies are riding their own rides drunk, incestually shagging in the hall of mirrors and sticking their knobs in the candy floss machines…

indiegooner

It can’t just be me who has very mixed feelings about the game. Had you told me the result before the game started I would have been overjoyed. Heck I would have taken it at half time when we were leading. But the missed penalty and late red card are very deflating (I hope we can get it overturned?). Looking at the result alone, this is a very good point. Win against United next week and we have a good chance of finishing in fourth or even third spot – we do have a lenient run in compared to spu*s… Read more »

Keeping it Monreal

Inconsistent refereeing but red card definitely won’t be overturned

Ballz

The penalty should have been re-taken because one of the homeless c***s was already in the 18 before Auba took the kick. He then made the tackle to deny him the tap in.
Poor officiating at crucial moments today. Also if Lucas was a red, then the stomp into Leno’s rib cage should have also been a red

Chris Siple

Oh, I missed that. I wondered how he got back there so fast.

YoungFabregas

we should of nailed the penalty in the first place and to be fair it was an incredible clearance by that spurs c*nt

Mpls

which he never would have made had he not encroached the 18. that’s the whole point.

YoungFabregas

Encroached the 18 by half a second who cares, let’s not scrape the bottom of the barrel for excuses like the chavs

Mpls

That half second allowed him the tenth of a second to make the play stopping Auba’s second attempt which would have been in. I care. It’s not nothing.

It’s a fair comment on a 2nd refereeing mistake that meant a goal in the match. Get both of those right and we’re up 2-0.

goonshow

Are you a Spud troll?
“Who cares?’ What a monumentously cretinous thing to say! Every Gooner ‘cares’ that we it was the second poor decision that resulted in a goal/lack of goal, meaning a 2 goal swing on the day… every Gooner ‘cares’ that it would have put us in the top 4… every Gooner ‘cares’ that we would (and SHOULD) now be within 1 point of those idiots…

By your idiotic reasoning, ‘who cares’ that Kane (and 3 others!) was palpably offside for their ‘penalty’ because Mustafi shouldn’t have made such a needless shove!

You gigantic muppet.

goonshow

Were you actually watching??? There’s nothing incredible about stealing a 2m illegal march into the area in order to get to the clearance a good few seconds earlier that you should have!

Walleye

I missed that

goonshow

I think it was Vertongehn’s secret mistress carrying his dinner home in that shopping bag at one point.

dr Strange

Xhaka put all the studs in Kanes calf and should have seen red. How is that “disciplined”?

Ballz

No way that was a red!!

dr Strange

Of course it was and I wouldn’t be surprised if he got suspended as the ref didn’t see it.

eternalflamini

Rubbish, even spurs fans online are only asking for a retrospective yellow.

Martin

Obviously a Xhaka hater. It was a good tackle

jon

Unfortunately, Xhaka cannot tackle. He had three clear warnable offences in the first half. He also has bright moments (good passes), but is all in all too risky to have on the pitch.

Mpls

I disagree. Warts and all Xhaka is worth having on the pitch every time. There’s a reason he’s the first midfielder on the teamsheet most of the time.

dr Strange

Watched it again and it’s a red. It’s delibirate, cynical, no chance on the ball and above all unnecessary. We had good cover and it’s just stupid.

Georgeycharles

Dr Spud

AP86

Dr spud ??????

Olivije Žirod

It should be a yellow and that is it. I don’t see how could have Xhaka injured him there in any way.

Hurensohn

I don’t think that should have been a red but he was at fault for lots of the dangerous free-kicks they put in, including the one Kane scored from that was ruled out for offside and the one they won the penalty from. He’s good on the ball but he wouldn’t get anywhere near a top team’s midfield.

Hurensohn

– and the one they won the penalty from

Martin

Except he didn’t.

Matt P

That was definitely a red. How is it not a red when you are going in from behind, nowhere near the ball, and put your studs into the guy’s calf? We can talk all we like about our bad luck with ref calls, but Xhaka was very lucky there.

Mpls

If it’s not considered violent conduct or serious foul play intending to injure an opponent, it’s not a red. It might have been a yellow card offense, I don’t know, I didn’t see it ?.

This is also the standard that should be applied to the Torreira and Rose calls, and illustrates how wrong both of those were. They should both be changed.

Chris Siple

Seriously, if it’s a back four, why not Jenkinson or AMN? Weird.

Red-Sky

here we go again. would have said the same thing if he played them… Why Licht and AMN when Mustafi had a decent game vs Bournemouth.
The power of retrospect.

Chris Siple

Mustafi hadn’t played that position for five years. It showed.

SLC Gooner

Aside from the shove on Kane, Mustafi was OK defensively. But he was awful in attack and crossing. AMN or Jenks would have been better.

RIKU

Son did not do anything so he musta fi must have kept him quiet ( thought did well apart from the shove )

jon

Mustafi is a fighter and puts in all he’s got in every game. But he is not a good defender. Tody, again he often ended in mid-distance when they attacked – neither following an opponent nor shielding. And he never, never has any awareness of players running in behind him.

goonshow

Not sure how much more poor old Jenks has to do to get a fair crack at RB… Putting in a bloke who hasn’t played there for years – and is at best suspect in the position he DOES actually play? Seriously???

1971 supporter

They were there for the taking. And we almost took them. A fine performance that we might not have expected a few weeks ago, and the fact that we are disappointed with a draw says a lot about how we’ve bounced back.

We need to stop the silly errors. The free kick leading up to the penalty was unnecessary and followed by an even more unwelcome silly shove in the box.

Monday’s practice: putting the chances away…

Pkub

Exactly, before the game I would of taken a draw all day long but we deserved much more! Tactically we were much more organised than them, 10/10 for Emery.
I’ve no words for Mustafi, completely unnecessary foul even though it was offside.

Dan

I know mustafi has fucked up a lot and i know my comment may not be popular among most fans but so kolcielny when he arrived. Lets give him at least a season more to judge

primfucker

😀

Keeping it Monreal

This is Mustafi’s 4th(?) season now?!?!

Make Arsenal Great Again

You get a thumbs up for that name.

Lacazette Before

True

YoungFabregas

He’s gotten progressively worse lol

Chris Siple

The guy scores on set pieces, he’s athletic, and when he’s focused he is very good. I understand what we saw in him. But he has amazingly poor judgment way too often, and he switches off several times a game. At this point, it’s not youthful errors, it’s a clinker in his footballing thinker and I don’t believe it’s curable.

Yankee Gooner

I’m giving you a thumbs down for not finding a rhyming word in place of “curable.”

George

Zero comparison to be made here. Actually such a dumb comment I can’t be bothered. You clearly either weren’t following Arsenal when Kos joined or have no idea about defenders.

goonshow

Well – you you got one thing right at least.

goonero

0/10 for the match officials. Absolute pack of clueless wankers just making it up as they go along. VAR can’t come soon enough.

Walleye

Sorry but in five years you will rue the day VAR arrived. Absolutely ruining bball and has already ruined football.
In baseball it is cover from the umpires incompetence.
Make the call and play the game.

goonero

I don’t think it’ll ever be perfect, or that I won’t ever have my gripes with it, but I’ll never think back on games like today and think boy if only we could go back to the days when Anthony Taylor and pals eyesight was the difference between us finishing 4th or not.

I think VAR is applied brilliantly in rugby, I don’t know enough about basketball but I assume the nature of the sport lends it to being more influenced by VAR than others?

goonshow

Agree 100% mate. DRS is also perfect in cricket. It simply a question of getting the logistics of the replay right so it doesn’t take too long. The on-field ref having to prance off to go and have his own private screening is a nonsense! IN rugby, the TMO has comms to the on-field ref and can advise him at any time. It’s interesting to see that the TMO is now also advising on off the ball incidents that the ref may miss – just makes players a lot more responsible and wary of breaking the laws… which is kinda… Read more »

Martin

It worked brilliantly in the World Cup and W everywhere it has been used. It has been successful in tennis, rugby and cricket for many years and will virtually eliminate bad decisions. It is only Luddites like you that refuse to see the benefit of VAR.

Yankee Gooner

I think American sport gets replay completely wrong, yet VAR seems to be pretty effective. So I get Walleye’s skepticism; from my exp with American sport, I’d rather be replayless.

Mpls

The key is, just like with the rest of the refereeing rulebook, how they apply the standards. In MLS, the only real problem I have with how they use it comes down to how they interpret one phrase:

CLEAR AND OBVIOUS ERRORS.

This is the standard they are supposed to use to determine if a call (or non-call) on the field should be overturned. In my opinion they get that wrong more than I would expect.

Also keep in mind, the official on the pitch makes the final call on the review. So, yeah, Mike Dean..

Chris Siple

They did pretty well in the first half (though Xhaka should have gotten a yellow), but how the linesman could have missed Kane (and at least one other Spud) being offside is inexplicable and inexcusable. He had ONE THING TO DO and he blew it.

primfucker

Definitely a red for Torreira. Definitely a red for Rose. Mustafi is, hopefully, done for at Arsenal and sold asap, Emery was clever with the line-up, completly fucked it up with the Laca sub. Shame Papastatopoulos and Kos are not 5 years younger – we would have such a CD pairing… Clone them. Quickly. VAAAAAR

Martin

Not even close to a red for Torreira. He won the ball and there was no malicious intent. I’m not even convinced it was a foul. I hope we will appeal it

craszy gunner

It should’ve been 3 points today …It was a game of 2 pens…Kane didn’t look like he was going to miss….Auba didn’t look like he was going to score even if he had another attempt at the pen..

He needs to pick himself up and go again on thursday…personally I would’ve given the pen to Mikhi…

Andreas

Agreed, he never looked like he fancied it!

GraeB

I liked the TH14 approach of not taking the penalty if the foul was against him.

Kevinm8128

Completely agreed with the lineup today, although Mustafi at RB predictably brought disaster eventually. I can only think Maitland-Niles was considered not fit enough for this game. My only gripe was the introduction of Ozil. He wasn’t terrible by any means, and he tried to work the play as best he could. But, surely the factors that meant he wasn’t picked to start were precisely the same as when he was introduced. That said, Ramsey looked pretty done by the time he came off, and Suarez would have been a risk too in such a high intensity game. This is… Read more »

Chris Siple

Good point about Welbz.

Dave Cee

My biggest gripe is that Ozil didn.t come on for Iwobi…who I thought was terrible. And I am not an Iwobi hater. But how many times did he allow Trippier to run off him? It was awful
A draw was the fair result..we were too passive. Opportunity missed for me

Knightly

You thought Iwobi was terrible because you’re either a dunce or blind or both.

Knightly

Iwobi wasn’t terrible -he and Mhki were among the biggest influences on the team’s attack. Stop bashing your own player undeservedly. You’re not smarter than Unai Emery who regularly count’s on Iwobi’s influence in the team’s attack.

goonshow

Once again, we play Iwobi at risk of leaving our left flank wide open… I watched him closely and the real problem is that he constantly creeps infield, wanting a pass, and leaves his wing wide open. It places such pressure on the LB – SPuds had a constant ‘out-ball’ to their right all game yesterday.

goonshow

Jenks??????

Rich

Sp*rs pressed us well, and our passing was awful, other than Monreal + Torreira, we really struggled to break through the lines. Our shape was really good, but having a centre half at right back, pretty much forced most of our play down our left. The accusation of AW over the years was that he was too predictable, this certainly can’t be said of Emery, who’s willing to make really big selection decisions, he’s brave, bold and decisive. I still think we’ll miss out on the top4, but with 9 games to go, we’re still in the mix, and other… Read more »

Caligunner

Yup, it was awesome we were able to convince him to leave PSG for us.

Just because he changes lineups and formations doesn’t make him a master tactician or coach. You don’t even understand whT he is trying to do with his lineups except to play conservative/defensive.

I’m a big ozil supporter but why bring him on and not a more defensive MF?

What was bold today with his selections?

Gunnerlocutor

Fantastic goal by Rambo, well assisted by Laca. Both our strikers should have scored though. They both need to shake this one off and get back to their best. No time to doubt or feel sorry for themselves.

Gooner

Really didn’t think torreira deserved a straight red for that challenge. He got the ball first, it was follow through that got Rose. His studds were not showing initially, only when he kicked the ball his studds were facing Rose and also seemed more like Rose ran into him more than he catching rose.

Danny

Stupid decision to make but mustafi did alright overall out of position.

Drew Dewsall

Did anyone else see Sissoko deliberately kick out at Kos near the end of the game by our goal? I could have sworn I saw that.

MikeSA

Exactly.

Fun how the commentators spotted it and mentioned it but then quickly shut up about it?

Gooners & Roses

I thought it was Sanchez. Cheap shot – coward.

Drew Dewsall

Also does anyone else find it annoying that the newest comments go to the bottom of the page by default? Can you not change this blogs?

Drew Dewsall

HA, who voted this down?

Paul Roberts

I did.

bsinGooner

Frankly, I would have taken a 1-1 at the start, but still I feel gutted, as we could have won this today. Some of the players were brilliant today – Leno, Kos, Papa, Mikhi, Monreal. I have seen very few saves as good as Leno’s second of the double save. ANd outstanding from Emery. This effort deserved a win – too bad we could not.

Rosa

Ramsey too surely, shouldn’t have come off for Ozil unless he was tired

GraeB

I thought he had tired from all that running.

Mpls

He looked gassed to me by the time he went off. It was a good decision to put fresh legs on to press up there, and Ozil put the effort in.

Caligunner

Ramsey looked tired so subbing him was right but even if ozil was alright today he could have brought on a more defensive minded player instead?

I love ozil but I know defensive playing isn’t his strongest attribute

Andreas

Danny Rose gets away with so many dives and fouls without a yellow. Drives me mental. Also, Kane gets away with a fat arse bump / shoulder barge for every aerial ball and never gets penalised. Can’t believe we didn’t win this one, fudge me.

Hantal

10/10 for Arseblog lives imaginative descriptions of Trippier

Mark

2 is being kind to Mustafi, he was a freaking trainwreck on defense and also in the attack. I know that is not his normal position, but he’s a professional and should be able to find people with his passes when there is no pressure on him and put a freaking ball into the box as a wing player. How many stupid fouls is he going to continue to commit, not just on the PK, but there were others around the box that were both called and not called. It’s the same thing match after match with him. Lacazette and… Read more »

Is there one player who improves the team as much as Sokratis?

jon

I fully agree. He had a huge match today. He is simply a fantastic defender.

Matt P

Agree. I feel with him around, Holding to come back, we just need one extra top centre back. I would have said we needed two 3-4 months ago

Olivije Žirod

I wasn’t bothered with the lineup like most were. The only suprising decision was leaving Torreira on the bench for Guendouzi. Mustafi had a very good game until the penalty. Neither Jenkinson nor Lichsteiner would be better. They weren’t dangerous through his side. So, if fans can blame him for the penalty they could also praise the good things he did. He was one of the reasons for such a great tactical display. I have seen so many comments like “get out of our club”. I mean come on we are better than this. Don’t expect commonsense from Macmanamaman – one minute he was bemoaning the lack of challenges, the next he’d have a go at a hard tackle.

Olivije Žirod

I am not from England so I didn’t watch English coverage. Sadly, the commentators from overseas are the same.

Re to mustafi

There isn’t anything wrong with mistakes. Every player makes mistakes. Obviously being a player in a defensive position you don’t want to make many but the there are different degrees of mistakes that are made and his are not the easiest ones to forgive.

I agree he was solid up to that point and jenks(my choice if he was fit enough to play back to back games) wouldn’t have fared better in terms of the position but the mistake I would doubt he would have made.

John C

The problem with Mustafi’s position for the penalty was that he was the wrong side, but he was only the wrong side because Kane was offside so in fact he was positioned perfectly. The problem was the linesman didn’t do his job

Make Arsenal Great Again

Leno has been excellent the past few weeks. He took him a while to get going but he is looking more and more like the real deal.

Also, I have been on the Emery is not the right guy bandwagon but I have to give him credit for his strategy for this game. It was very well thought out

GraeB

Leno does need to improve his distribution – puts us in trouble or in touch too often. Needs to watch Citeh more.

We are not out of it yet

2/10 for Mustafi is very harsh. Ok agreed very poor challenge but it was offside. Apart from that he played well at not his normal position. I very much doubt if Jenkinson or Lichtsteiner would of coped well in this game and for me Mustafi is probably our best option even over AMN at this position. The question is when Bellerin was out for the season how is it that we cant afford to buy a right back? I am sure even Huddersfield would have signed someone in January if that happened to them. We simply did not take the… Read more »

Lol Auba is a striker, they always take the penalty. Blame ozil for not taking it? Wtf kind of nonsense is that

MikeSA

So how come there’s no mention of Sissoko kicking out at Leno? Leno had the ball under control, the players were all moving out of the area and Sissoko takes a kick at Leno on therapy out WTF?!?! The commentators mentioned it briefly but then quickly shut up about it. Why? That’s a straight red and the ref didn’t see it so it should also be retrospective. Spurs got 5 major calls their way, we got 1. How’s that competent reffing? I see some pathetic @rsewipe is trying to claim the Kane penalty was actually a valid penalty – just… Read more »

James

Gave Aubameyang 2/10. Same mark vs Southampton.

Just a sprinter who can score tap-ins.
Massively overrated player who hasn’t got the guts to take big game penalties

We are not out of it yet

How is he massively overrated when he is one of the PLs top scorers? He is a brilliant world class striker and proved himself over his career. The most over rated player is Ozil. He is our dead ball specialist; so a penalty should be easy for him. Our highest paid player and yet has no bollocks to take a penalty. The worst mistake we ever made is offering him a high salary and then losing a player with real quality in Ramsey; who I am sure would scored if he has given the opportunity to take a penalty against… Read more »

James

Incredible how you find a way to blame Ozil.
Why were no other sides in for Aubameyang? Even Giroud scored 100 goals for us.
Just have a look at the chances Aubameyang misses. Not even close to works class

We are not out of it yet

Aubameyang is our top scorer, without his goals we would not even be considering a top four finish. Poor penalty agreed but to call him just a sprinter that scores only tap ins is seriously deluded and a response I would expect from a Spurs fan. Why do I criticise Ozil, our highest paid player and our dead ball specialist? Simply because he is not the man to take the challenge of derby day at Wembley stadium as opposed to Ramsey, and he does not perform in the big occasions. I believe he should be the first man to want… Read more »

Ozil has always been known as a playmaker, not a goal scorer. Your striker should be the person to get the chance on a penalty kick, and of course be expected to score on it. What the hell does Ozil have to do with Auba’s missed penalty.

Chippys chip

Its about Rambo scoring a great goal today as well as many more, 2 FA cup winners aswell then being let go because the club is owned and run by cunts who think Ozil will sell more shirts.

Matt P

He is a very good player, but I would call him just off ‘world class.

Martin

Of course Ozil is the scapegoat because of his salary. He came on too late but played his part. Aubameyang missed the penalty but somehow you blame Ozil.

PFo

Every time Blogs, James, Tim S., etc have a moan about all the Ozil fanboys on twitter (gunnerblog has been especially egregious in this way recently), I want to send them a comment like this one.

Fact is, for every childish fanboy, there’s an equally and oppositely deranged Ozil hater. How you can shoehorn criticism of Ozil into commentary on this game (for not taking a penalty, FFS!), is beyond me. This takes the biscuit.

We are not out of it yet

The point is PFo is that Ozil is our highest paid player and I have stated before our dead ball specialist. It should be easily in his capabilities to have the quality to take them. I think he lacks confidence as he is never proves his worth in the big game. A penalty I am sure he should be the best player to take. His has the trickery and quality to be our best penalty taker but my feelings are that he has no bottle to want to take them. That for me is poor from a so called world… Read more »

Sorry Ozil can prove himself but would be also interesting for him to probe himself

Dave Cee

Penalties are DEFINITELY NOT Ozils speciality. Just look at his kick against Bayern

We are not out of it yet

Yes he loses it when under pressure. Don’t get me wrong when we play Halifax or Accrington Stanley he would be the first on my list to play but lets face it he is NOT a world class player as he does not have the MENTALTY to produce on the big stage. His speciality as DEAD BALL specialist and his position as our highest paid player should hopefully mean he can play at the top level and be ultra confident in taking our penalties. The criticism of Aubameyang is unfair as he is our top scorer and lets not forget… Read more »

What exactly IS ozils speciality? Feeling ill? Having a bit of backache from carrying that heavy fucking wallet no doubt. #RAMBOLEGEND

Caligunner

What’s this made up term “dead ball specialist” coming from? He creates for others and makes key passes. Now if there were 2-3 players in front of him to make it harder ok, let him be “trick” ball specialist.

Chippys chip

Cant understand why you got so downvoted for saying it like it is??? Rambo is an Arsenal legend. Ozil tries a little when he feels like it.

We are not out of it yet

You usually get down voted when you tell the truth. Spend £350K per week and what do we have? A player that’s shines against Barnet. That’s my point, Ozil gets 6/10 from blogs today and I guess that’s because he feels the inclination to make a positive mark to a player that would give him negative responses if he scored him less. Ozil was of no value today and in my opinion should be accountable for if he does not have balls to take penalty as he is meant to be for a final time our DEAD BALL SPECIALIST. If… Read more »

Bergkampz Ballz

C’mon man……This has nothing to do with Ozil; Aubu should be buried the penalty plain and simple – by using your own rationale, Auba is our highest paid GOALSCORER and should have delivered when we needed it most. Funny thing is, when we were awarded the penalty, I had no idea in my mind which arsenal player, on the pitch, was best placed to take it and I think that says a lot penalties in high intense situations, like we saw today, are %10 technique and %90 Balls!!! Don’t get me wrong, I see where your coming from but tbf… Read more »

Caligunner

Again, your comment is moronic. Who refers to him as a dead ball specialist besides yourself? Simply looking at his stats shows he doesn’t lose the ball easily under pressure. He actually is very good at making quick passes under pressure. The biggest issues when another team presses is his teammates finding him and feeding a pass to him up the pitch.

ClockEndRider

You usually get downvoted when you write something that is against the public perception or just plain wrong. It’s not a conspiracy. You’re just plain wrong.

Dobby

I feel for the manager on this one. Tactically spot on, spurs didn’t cause us any real problems outside from the penalty. I’m both really encouraged and totally deflated. Hopefully we take it out on Rennes.

GraeB

Surprised Spudz didn’t put more down their left to pressure Mustafi. It seems their sole ploy is Triphimup crosses.

Dobby

Kind of highlights my problem with Mustafi really, for most of that game he dealt with them fine down that side and Mkhitaryan helped him out a lot. Of course though, whatever good Mustafi does always seem to be undone by an absolute howler

Anshul

Mkhitaryan was probably our best player on the pitch. Offered a lot both offensively & defensively! More of that please!

I AM ARSENAL

I swear if santori comes in here defending mustafi

Martin Jerome

Mustafi should fuck the fuck off!

George

Happy enough with the overall result, but not happy with how we blew the 3 points.

Mustafi is a given for fucking something up so no surprise there, but I expected better from Lacazette and Auba. Actually Auba has been missing some sitters of late if we’re being honest.

On the plus side, Sokratis was immense!

Nick

“[S]hame we couldn’t win it for him?” Why on Earth would any match be about winning it for a particular player? What an odd comment. You seem to consider it as such, blogs, but this is not Aaron Ramsey Football Club.

Guns Up

Bonus ratings – 10/10 for Ramsey rightfully claiming Wembley as his house in celebration; 0/10 for whiny cunt Pochettino having the audacity to complain about the officiating after being gifted a point. Fuck right off.

Chippys chip

Shame we couldnt win it for Ramsey? Shame we couldnt pay him what he wanted!!!! Which isnt as much as others are on. He is an Arsenal legend.

We are not out of it yet

Ramsey is definitely a legend. His winning goals at cup finals are proof. We paid a crap German midfielder his wages and this should at least inspire the shite German midfielder to do better but unless we are playing York City I doubt our German will step up. I will truly miss Ramsey a pure gunner and worthy of the shirt. Ozil who the fuck are you???

santori

Overall a decent performance but some poor moments robbed us of the opportunity to close the gap. Still the draw better than not at this stage with 10 matches to go. 1) Leno – MASSIVE double save. 2) Mustafi – Even I have to admit he was rash with his challenge even if it was offside. He was a surprise for me at Rback. Personally do not rate Jenkinson or Lichsteiner against top 6 but would have preferred a more ‘natural’ fullback. Seem to be no nonsense and doing the right thing throughout the match. But very stupid to barge… Read more »

Glenn Doozy

Mustafi deserves credit for a largely decent performance. If he can cut out the daft moments, there is a pretty good, committed player there. Red cards. Rose and Torreira both yellow for me. Penalties. Neither a pen. Spurs would have been a definite pen IF Kane hadn’t been offside, but he was. Auba exaggerated contact, poor form. Terrible pen from him, Ozil-esque in its weakness. Blast it down the middle FFS. Great save from Leno. Good performance on the whole, should have finished 1-0. Auba and Laca are a bit overrated by fans. Both a step or two below the… Read more »

Mustafi should never wear the arsenal shirt again… grow a pair please Unai

Samgunz

Pretty dumb ratings, laca was great apart from his misses, assisting the goal for a start, 7. One of Mustafis best games apart from the foul, 7. Torreira was brilliant in the 2nd half, red was harsh, 7. Monreal motm for me, 9.
