Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema has been voted the PFA Women’s Footballer of the Year. The 22 year old has scored 31 goals so far this season, adding to her tally today as the Gunners confirmed their first league title win since 2012. Miedema opened the scoring in the 6th minute with a thunderous strike from 20 yards.

Miedema has moved within 2 goals of the all time scoring record for the Netherlands this season. Gunners boss Joe Montemurro told Arseblog News earlier today, “I understand that people watch the ball and watch the person that scores the goal, but every once in a while, take your eye off the ball and just look at her movement off the ball. She’s an intelligent player, she’ll make space for someone, she might drag someone out so someone can run into the space.”
Miedema has set new standards in the WSL, beating the scoring record for a WSL season as early as February. She will almost certainly win the golden boot too. Miedema was joined in the PFA Team of the Year by Arsenal teammates Lia Walti and Kim Little.

Really interesting to see Vivianne’s interview when she recieved the award. She is so humble I don’t think she realises how talented she is.
The shot that took the goalkeeper’s fingers off and crashed into the roof of the net grabbed the headlines but I think the assist for Katie’s goal and the regular chasing back into her own half to make defensive blocks shows what a super all round player Vivianne is.
Pity some of the men’s team players do not make a habit of watching the women’s games!
If I lived nearer I would go watch them regularly, they are a credit to the club !
