Arsenal Women’s German international Tabea Kemme has undergone surgery for a small tear on her meniscus. Kemme’s Arsenal career has been blighted by knee injuries since joining the club last summer.
She tore her meniscus badly in spring 2018 after she had already agreed the move to North London. She made her comeback at the beginning of this year, but was plagued by another setback, forcing her to miss the rest of her first season.
Kemme played 45 minutes in the Emirates Cup match against Bayern Munich in July, but hasn’t taken part in any pre-season matches since. The club have confirmed that she has again undergone surgery on her knee.
“Tabea Kemme underwent knee surgery to remove a small tear in her meniscus last week,” a club statement read. “The surgery went well and she has already started her rehabilitation. We’re all wishing Tabea a speedy recovery – and hope to see her back in action as soon as possible.”
Tabi signed a two-year contract in the summer of 2018 and there is no scope for an extension because she is on a two-year leave of absence from the Potsdam police. It seems increasingly likely that Arsenal will never get to see the full range of Kemme’s talents- Tabea has played in every outfield position for her country and won an Olympic gold medal with Germany at the 2016 games.
Unbelieveable!
One of my favourite female players in the world and I couldn’t believe it when she signed for Arsenal. A real statement of intent from Joe and the gang.
Now it seems she may be forced to leave and go back to policing without us even seeing her for a cumulative 90 minutes!
Is the German Police Force like the Army where you can buy yourself out? Perhaps we could have a whip-round!
Desperately bad luck for Kemme. These injuries are ruining my enjoyment of the football – heart in mouth every time one of our players is involved in a tackle.
Tim, does this it make it more likely that Joe will bring in another player, or is he still happy to stick with his squad?
I don’t think we’ll add. There is a rule about having a certain number of homegrown players in the squad and we’re not exactly following it. If we add someone now, I think they have to be English and that narrows the pool a little.
Thanks, Tim. Lots of playing time for Grant, Filis and Flores, then! Which could end up benefitting us in the longer term.
Well, not to further ruin your day but Miedema got hurt today in The Netherlands win over Slovenia (she scored 2 goals). She tweaked her hamstring. Doesn’t sound terribly bad but no specific word on severity of injury. She is not likely to play on Tuesday, when the Dutch have another Euro championship qualifying match. Fingers crossed that it is minor!
Aargh. I just saw that Kim Little scored FIVE goals last night, but now you’ve gone and ruined my mood! 😉
Tim just wondering if you are going to do a roundup on all the arsenal players on international duty? plus i noticed that Lia Walti was called up for Switzerland is she fully fit ? confused when i saw her called up.
Lia is due back in October at the moment, I think Switzerland just want to re-integrate her into the group a bit because she is captain.
At the Conti Cup final Dan Carter hosted a Q & A session with Viki, Tabea, Lia & Jess Samuelson (Jordan would also have been present but she was working for BT Sports on the day). The girls gave a fascinating insight into their experiences & frustrations at being unable to play because of long term injuries. Roll forward 6 months and the injury news particularly for Dan & now Tabea has been horrible to read about. At least for Jordan, Lia & Viki there is light beginning to shine for that trio. Don’t know about Jess but the injury… Read more »
Arsenal will rue losing Bloodworth, who is extremely versatile and better than any of their recent signings. Just the player a club that wants to make a serious CL run and yet has suffered from injury problems needs.
Yes, Dom is definitely difficult to replace because of her versatility which really came to the fore during last season’s injury crisis. Regarding the new signings, I think they have all settled in quite well and will enhance the squad. Jen is more than just a centre half and her and Louise are a real threat at any set piece situation. Leonie is an excellent defender and had a great game against the Spuds as did Jill, she is going to be fantastic for us. Aggressive, powerful, loads of energy and a great eye for goal and only 22.
Eh? Have you not seen Roord or Maier play?
Jen Beattie will probably add as many goals and frees up Leah for midfield as an option and Lia is almost back who was possibly as big a miss last season as Jordan was who incidentally is looking charged up for the coming campaign.
Dominique is a great player but she wanted to leave because she was fed up with being “extremely versatile” and there is no point clinging on to players that do not want to be here.
I saw Beattie at centerback in a couple of preseason matches and thought she was a bit shaky–wasn’t overly impressed. I think Williamson and Quinn are the best centerback pairing. I had the same feeling about Maier in one or two preseason matches–somewhat meh. Good/solid player, but not exceptional. Maybe I’m wrong and they’ll shine; I hope so. The other acquisitions from two years ago have been hurt constantly or played little. Roord is certainly a promising attacking mid and will provide some midfield depth, giving Van de Donk and Nobbs opportunities to rest. Arsenal is a very good attacking… Read more »
Dom Bloodworth (will always be Janssen to me) is a fantastic player who developed into a star at Arsenal. But her contract was up and she opted for the change to Wolfsburg, who let’s face it are better than we are. There’s nothing for the club to rue, they would have loved to keep her. Let’s appreciate the talent we do have.
I totally get the Orange Loewinnen love-in, btw, they are my favourite international team as well!
