Arsenal’s reward for last night’s 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest is an away tie against Liverpool in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup.
We’ve faced the Reds in this competition a couple of times, Julio Baptista bagging four goals on the way to a 6-3 win on Merseyside in 2007 and Fran Merida scoring a cracker in a 2-1 win at the Emirates in 2009.
The Gunners will travel to Anfield in the week commencing 28th October between Premier League home games against Crystal Palace and Wolves.
Unai Emery will likely use the match as another chance to blood his youngsters; perhaps Gabriel Martinelli can follow in the footsteps of compatriot Baptista.
We’ve not won the competition since Steve Morrow’s winner against Sheffield Wednesday in 1993.

Emery may use his youngsters but you can bet your bottom dollar Klopp will start Mane, Salah, Firmino!!

Under him Liverpool get knocked out of the cups fairly early. He doesn’t really rate the domestic cups.

I can guarantee you he won’t start over one. Why would he risk an injury and hurt a player’s fitness in a cup, no one cares about? Obviously, he cares much more about the premier league and the champions league. He almost never starts a majority of his starters in these cup competitions

Klopp won’t use his big guns. It certainly will be a clash of the fringe players, players returning from injury and players looking for minutes.
If we go with the right mentality for a good performance, it is a game that could tilt either way.
I don’t think I’m being optimistic when I say Martinelle is going to score 4 in the first 15 minutes.

Too bad we couldn’t be at home again, that would have been some help. Always a shame to meet a club this big this early on, but the sky is the limit with our young players.
Too bad we didn’t get Colchester to show the other club in north London how to play a game of football.
Yeah it’s a bit of a shame, I want to see this young group grow into the competition with a few more gimmes and meet the big uns in the quarters on. Oh well, if they play like last night, you wouldn’t bet against them.

I think a trip to Anfield, under the floodlights, will be an exceptional opportunity and experience for the youngsters.
Maybe set an objective of exiting the competition having scored more goals than we conceded? Probably the best we can hope for…

Ok, I’ll admit I would have wished the draw were otherwise, but it’s a cup game and anything can happen. Do you all think we are less capable that Colchester ? Because the gap between us and Liverpool isn’t as extreme as between Colchester and Sp**rs.

It’s 3 years since the Scousers won a game in this competition before MK Dons; they lost to Chelski, Leicester, and Southampton (twice) before that, so don’t knock our chances.
I think it’ll be two B teams with strong benches.
Liverpoo barely beat MK Dons for their first win in this cup in three years. We’ve got a good chance.

We beat them in the final in 1987

Play the same team, they’ll learn more even if they get thrashed at Anfield than they will beating Forest. Also they are all pretty unknown so makes it hard to prepare for and they’ll be hungry so they won’t make it easy for Liverpool. Tuesdays side played with much more freedom than the first team does, I wouldn’t bet against them. Martinelli to make a fool of VVD. Love it.

At least we have the Europa League to continue working with the youngsters. Small joys.
Playing a slightly stronger lineup against Frankfurt and winning has increased the chance of the youngsters playing the remaining group games.
The pessimism about this draw surprises me. Probably I’m blinded by our exciting group of young players (certainly the largest crop of seemingly excellent kids that I can remember) and my ignorance of Liverpool’s beyond Rhian Brewster, but if this is kids versus kids, as everything indicates it will be, then are we not going to absolutely obliterate them?
Great opportunity for the younger players to play at a famous ground and push on. Nothing to lose here!
The writing’s on the wall for this one… Emery will field a side with several first teamers, Klopp will field the second string, and we’ll still lose.
As a reference point, this is the team they fielded in the third round last season when they lost at home to Chelsea 1-2;
Mignolet, Clyne, Matip, Lovren,Moreno, Milner (Henderson 60), Fabinho (Salah 87), Keita, Shaqiri, Sturridge, Mané (Firmino 71).
Substitutes; Firmino, Salah, Gomez, Henderson, Solanke, Jones, Grabara.
Not youngsters, but: Fabinho and Keita were not established in the team yet, Sturridge was a shadow of the striker who played next to Suarez and Sterling, Mignolet is not very good, and Lovren and Moreno were always crap. I think we’ll see players like Shaqiri again this year, along with Oxlade-Chamberlain, and some youngsters.
Tough draw…will be interesting to see the battle of the kids.
