Report: Villa and Norwich join Nketiah chase

According to Bristol Live, Aston Villa and Norwich City have lodged interest in signing Eddie Nketiah on loan for the rest of the season.

Bristol City were thought to be leading the race to snap up the England under-21 international but news of interest from Premier League clubs could scupper that.

Villa and Norwich, both newly-promoted, could do with more firepower. The Canaries, overly-reliant on top-scorer Teemu Pukki, have only found the net 22 times this campaign.

Villa meanwhile have an injury crisis in attack after Brazilian Wesley was ruled out for the season with an ACL injury. In Wednesday’s night’s EFL Cup semi-final first leg with Leicester, Dean Smith opted to field three midfielders up front.

Mikel Arteta admitted yesterday that the Gunners are chewing over several offers for Nketiah who was recalled from his spell at Leeds because he wasn’t getting enough game time. Championships sides Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest have also made contact.

Villa would be perfect

mc1892

Agreed. He’d be their main man and they place some nice stuff- certainly hasn’t done Tammy Abraham much harm!

PeteyB

Maybe, but as much as they are desperate for something up front I wonder if living off scraps in a struggling Premier league team might not be as good as getting regular scoring opportunities with a high flying championship side.
I guess there are pros and cons to both.

The Spoon

Football wise yes, but if he ent to Norwich he could tap up Aaron’s and Cantwell…

gooner

stuck behind Bamford do let’s send him to compete with Pukki.

Billy

Villa he could have a chat with grealish

Badaab

Keeping young players away from John Terry should be football’s top priority.

Dave

If Villa are in dire straits he’ll definitely get games there. Seems the best option to me.

The Kolkata Gooner

Go to Villa. Bang in the goals against all the clubs above us, ensuring our first top 4 finish in 4 years. Come back a hero. Become all time leading goal scorer for Arsenal. Lead Arsenal to multiple Premier League titles and a couple of Champions League trophies. Win Ballon d’Or. Retire a legend, with his own statue outside the Emirates, alongside Henry and Bergkamp.
Perfect.

RedHotHornBlower

Heh, you could possibly write the Hollywood script for this movie?

The Kolkata Gooner

Yes, I would love that.

onenil

You forgot the bit where he returns to manage the club after serving as player and apprentice to the all-conquering Arteta. After one season winning the Quintuple, Arsenal is awarded the official ‘Greatest Team The World has Ever Seen’ Trophy as voted by former Spurs fans whose stadium has recently collapsed into a huge sink hole.
Too much to ask?

I'm 14 Again

These types of dreams are the best. Imagine this really is the narrative that occurs… You’d be called fucking Nostradamus!

loose_cannon

Villa could be a very interesting option, regular games in the premiership would be ideal for his development.

I'm 14 Again

On the surface, seems like a no brainer. I’d like to think it’s that too, I mean, fielding three midfield players in attack tells the story

Mesut O’Neill

Man city did that in their last game, what’s the issue?

Dave

To Villa it is then, they don’t seem to have much options upfront so my guess is Eddie will get plenty of first team action

Goonerink

But is he really ready to bear all that weight? Being the only striker at a club in a relegation scrap?
It is a toughie and probably why it’s not been done yet as the top 3 contenders all have their merits.

Billy Bob

Can’t stand villa so a definite no-no from me lol still think Nottingham Forest or Bristol City would be the best options

Santori

Probably if Auba is prey to bigger clubs in the summer, we will consider Martinelli up top but if Nketiah impresses on loan, he will also be a prospect to add. Lacazette may not stay more than a season.

And we will then add from market either lesser known striker with potential close to prime years or an older player as insurance like say a Cavanni.

but Eddie always seems to have a knack for where the goal is and is getting stronger, has some of Laca’s footy mannerisms. Hope he has a great loan.

Martinellis belly

Anyone else curious to see Eddie play on the left of a front 3 much like Auba is now or Mane or Rashford do cutting in and shooting.
I feel like he’s not so great with his back to goal as a lone CF and Bielsa seemed to agree.
However he’s got great pace, finishing and movement. I’d like to see it in action.
