Pablo Mari made his Arsenal debut in the 2-0 win over Portsmouth on Monday night. The Spaniard had an assured performance on his first Arsenal outing, hopefully something he can build on.
The FA’s own YouTube channel have released a video showing every touch he had in the game, nice stuff. Have a watch.
Unfortunately missed the game, this is the post I’ve been waiting for!
Already looking forward to seeing Mari & Saliba working together next season – very promising!!
Didn’t watch the game but looks like he was the main distributor from the back. Nice work. He looks for a dangerous pass and seems to read the game well. His clearances etc. were good.
Sure, it’s only P’mouth but baby steps 🙂
Mari on his debut, noticed his passing, especially long passing was useful. I can see the benefit of a left footer playing down the line. And also passing across the box it naturally curves away from opposition, so give a bit better time for the right sided centre halfnto launch their own attack. I.e. Luiz. Overall I like the balance he gives us. Also that he can allow Luiz to play on the right side of central defense. As on the left he is so afraid of people going past him on his outside on his weaker left foot, he… Read more »
He looks quite good doesn’t he? Not a bad debut performance either…
HSB
I’m not ready to do that yet…
Must be difficult for the opposition when Mari & Ceballos and Luiz and Guendouzi are all on the pitch
i like how he really passes with a sense of purpose. no feeble dribbly passes, especially in front of our goal.
Wow. A central defender playing for Arsenal who knows where his man is and where the ball is at the same time? It’s been a while. I feel fairly confident about Mari.
Too soon to tell. He did well with his passing being most noticeable. But he was hardly pressed when he had the ball and their attackers did not really challenge him. Anyway, let’s see.
I’m confident that as soon as he gets roasted for pace once it’ll be remembered forever and its the only critical assessment we’ll ever hear
Anyone notice how, after passing the ball to a fellow player, he takes two or three steps back (away from the opposition player trying to get the ball) so that he gives the player he just passed to the option of SAFELY passing it back to him if no other options are viable – I like it
Tidy!
A bit premature. He looked decent with good passing range and control but we also have to remember this is Portsmouth. We’ve been here before with people wanking off to Mavropanos and then Holding. Neither have been anymore convincing than Mustafi. So a big pinch of salt. Jury still out but a hopeful. Plenty of question marks next season with likely income curtailed and us having to cut cloth to means. Sokratis looks like he is contemplating departure (Hence Mari brought in). He’s one of our more consistent players but somehow played out right sporadically now. Luiz is really an… Read more »
Just want the Gunners to take every games they play serious because they are on the level of competing with the big clubs in Europe.
