Huddersfield Town have confirmed that Emile Smith Rowe has extended his loan deal from Arsenal until the end of the current campaign.
The 19 year old joined the Championship side in January, and 11 appearances for the Terriers, scoring once and providing three assists.
With issues with his own squad, it might have been tempting to bring the exciting midfielder back, but Arsenal feel Smith Rowe will be best served by playing more regularly, and developing before his return to us ahead of next season.
Meanwhile, Jordi Osei-Tutu signed off his loan at VfL Bochum with a goal in their final game of the season, a 2-2 draw with SpVgg Greuther Furth.
Having had a traumatic start to his time in Germany due to a disgusting racist incident, and initially struggled to get into the team. However, the 21 year old turned things around, and finished the campaign playing on the right side of a front three, with five goals and three assists to his name.
Elsewhere, James Olayinka’s loan with Northampton continues after the Cobblers reached the League Two playoff final with a 3-0 win over Cheltenham Town.
They’ll face Exeter at Wembley on June 29th, with the Arsenal midfielder hopeful of helping his side secure promotion.
I thought Osei-Tuto was a right back? Does he play both? With Hector struggling to regain his physical levels after surgery at the moment I was hopeful we had some more in house competition there
I dont blame him. Not a chance I’d want to come back and play for Arsenal at the moment.
Why not use him so he gets playing time at Arsenal instead of signing Cedric Soares. I know he used to play RB but finished his loan playing RW – but surely (dont call me shirley) its a better option and shows Arsenal’s youngsters there’s a route to the 1st team.
He’s able to play both, but he’s a better RW.
Now we have more options …
Actually if Cedric was fit I would see Mikel play him at Brighton, he’ll motor into the rw, deliver crosses and let Pepe play as Inside Forward more often. Hector as Inside Wing back was narrowing the space alongside Pepe.
Two years ago, Smith Rowe was the most talented and readiest of all our young players. The integration of our young players into the first team in terms of quality (not quantity) is questionable.
He really shone during the first half of last season, like Martinelli this season though not as much. He then got a loan to Leipzig and unluckily got injured. He’s finding his feet again at Huddersfield. I am cautiously optimistic with him.
Playing more regularly? FFS, why couldn’t he start here?
Given the season is a fucking write off now I would’ve taken ESR back and given him minutes. Our midfield is non existent and we need someone with his drive and energy. I hope he has a strong finish to the season. Huddersfield are in trouble so they could do with a few goals and assists from him.
