Bernd Leno will miss the rest of this season for Arsenal, but fears he might be sidelined for up to 9 months with a cruciate injury were allayed this evening.
The German landed badly after a snide push by Brighton forward Neal Maupay on Saturday, causing a hyper-extension of his knee and some ligament damage. It was feared he had suffered cruciate ligament damage which would keep him out until next year.
However, it was revealed this evening that it’s not an ACL problem, and the time frame for his return is 4-6 weeks.
It means that Emi Martinez will be our first choice keeper between now and the end of the season and when we win the FA Cup on penalties with the Argentine the hero in the shoot-out.
Matt Macey is likely to understudy him having recently extended his contract by a year until June 2021.
So, while the injury is unfortunate and still robs us of one of our best players this season, it could have been a lot worse.
Of course the good news there is tempered by the news that Gabriel Martinelli has had scans on a knee injury with worries over a damaged meniscus.
Bad news unfortunately, let’s keep fingers crossed it’s not too bad, but the initial prognosis is that he’s going to spend some months out of action.
Fuck yes. Hop we play Brighton in the first game of next season for some sweet sweet revenge.

Sadly, there are precious few players in our squad who have the mentality of standing up for their team mates in these situations. Seemed like Guendouzi was the lone player interested on Saturday. Gone are the days of Keown, Viera and co. collectively getting stuck into an opponent to make playing against Arsenal a nightmare. PHEW! Was convinced that was a serious one from watching the replays, genuinely stunned. Heading into next season without our first choice gk would have been a nightmare, already got enough work on our plates as it is

Has there been another PL club that has had these amount of injuries in their first couple of games post lockdown? Whether it be physical or mental there is something seriously lacking. We can say it’s unlucky etc. etc. however it has been far to consistent for far to long not to be inherent within the club
Maupay might want to look out for the Arsenal fixture next season in case Leno goes “full Schumacher” on him.
