Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema has been voted the Football Writers’ Player of the Year for 2019-20. Miedema finished top scorer in the WSL with 16 goals and topped the assists chart with 10 assists prior to the termination of the season. She is also currently the top scorer in the Champions League with 10 goals in Europe.
Miedema was nominated alongside Lucy Bronze, Beth England, Guro Reiten and Ellen White. For a full breakdown of Viv’s mindblowing stats for the 2019-20 season, you can read this article we posted a couple of weeks ago using Statsbomb data. The award was decided on by a group of dedicated women’s football journalists.
Miedema won by a single vote ahead of Chelsea’s Beth England, with Guro Reiten and Lucy Bronze in joint third. The panel also acknowledged a number of additional players, including Arsenal’s Beth Mead. The full explainer for the process and decision can be found here.
