Nketiah joins Shearer and Jeffers as England under-21s’ top scorer

Eddie Nketiah was on the scoresheet again for England under-21s as they recorded a disappointing 3-3 away against Andorra.

His strike in the 82nd minute – a darting run to collect a through ball, followed by neat flicked finish over the keeper – is his 13th in 11 games for Aidy Boothroyd’s side and means he’s now tied with ex-Gunner Francis Jeffers and Alan Shearer for the most goals in England colours at the level.

The Young Lions needed all three points to secure qualification for next summer’s European Under-21s Championships but after Eddie’s late goal they went on to concede a stoppage-time equaliser.

They have another chance to book their place at the Hungary and Slovenia-hosted tournament when they face Turkey on Tuesday.

Interestingly, despite being picked for the squad, Reiss Nelson wasn’t included on the bench.

If ever there’s a sign that things could go either way, it’s the names of the other 2 top scorers!

Always wondered if Franny contributed to Big Weng avoiding the Premier League market

There wasn’t a lot wrong with Jeffers apart from injuries, and he actually had an impressive goal scoring record for us.

The Thierry Henry shaped obstacle was the biggest problem, apart from the injuries of course, as he could only play as a no.9.

But being injury prone certainly didn’t stop Wenger signing a player after Jeffers so i can’t see why it would have stopped him buying from other premier league clubs.

Santi’s Flip Flop

Re: the Reiss Nelson comment at the end, the updated squad (posted by England Twitter on 5th Oct here: https://mobile.twitter.com/England/status/1313034068355936256) doesn’t include Nelson at all, and the release says he was ‘withdrawn’. No word on injuries, so definitely interesting.

Also! Well done Eddie. Fantastic achievement!

Let’s hope he has a little more Alan and a little less Francis.

Jeffers was so so good on Champ Manager back in the day, wonderkid promise fulfilled

Biggles

Glad he was on the scoresheet, he seems to be making steady progress. What to make of a draw against the mighty Andorra? With a population of 77,000 they certainly couldn’t all fit into The Emirates.

Reckon at a squeeze we could get ’em all in!

I make it that Aidy Boothroyd is useless.

The team he couldn’t get out of its group at the last European u21s was essentially the team that had won the u20 World Cup the previous year.

He scored against Andorra too, a top top nation. We did well to draw agaisnt them.

Came off the bench on72 and scored on 82. Could have had another hat trick if he had started..game won

As soon as things get good we get the fucking interlull. Here’s to it ending soon!

It ends when it ends, as all thing do.

Great job Eddie. On another note, surely this is a good sign for Andorra’s future prospects?

In a few years they should be able to field an XI that can score goals and prevent the whitewashed score-lines.

Congrats, Eddie! He can be our new ‘fox in the box’…and hopefully more.

Cheesus

Congratulations to Eddie!

I’ve been really impressed recently by Josh Dasilva as well. He would certainly bring something to our midfield.

Eddie will always get goals, he’s a natural. His game is slightly taken away from him as he rather play on the shoulder of the last defender than drop deep like Laca does. Can’t wait to see how Partey improves the team and the players in front of him
