Nikolaj Moller made a significant impact during his first season at Arsenal with the tall striker scoring seven goals in 18 games for the club’s U23 side, which helped them to avoid relegation.
In the summer Moller was made available for loan and some eyebrows were raised when it was decided that he would be sent to Viktoria Koln, who play in the third tier of German football.
There was a feeling that the 19-year-old is capable of playing at a higher level, but nonetheless it was expected that Moller would receive a significant amount of playing time for his temporary club.
Matters haven’t worked out exactly as had been anticipated, however, with Moller still yet to establish himself as a regular in the starting line-up for Viktoria Koln.
So far this season he has made five appearances in the league but his progress hasn’t been helped by him being unavailable for a handful of matches, initially due to illness and then because of injury.
Last night Moller experienced what could prove to be a turning point in terms of his loan spell as he scored his first goals in senior football.
Moller hit a brace as Viktoria Koln beat Untereschbach in the Middle Rhein Cup. Although it wasn’t a particularly high profile game, it was still a useful experience for the Arsenal loanee which will hopefully now lead to him getting further playing time in the league.
It will be interesting to see what lies in store for Moller next season, with the club also having Mika Biereth at their disposal, who is making a major impact at U23 level.
All Moller can do for now, though, is focus on his own development as he looks to make the most of his loan spell.

This club has a great future. I really trust Per Metersacker and Edu. The vision is gradually showing
Raul almost Barca’d us. Lucky escape that. Collateral damage is minimal, we lost Sven, and we’re left with one too many Kia clients.
I don’t think Sven was much of a loss to be honest. None of his signings were on the level of what we did in the summer.
Yes but it wasn’t all a disaster. Leno was a good buy, its just that a new keeper has come in and done better. Mavropanos will enjoy a solid career as well, I would prefer him in the squad instead of Mari who is the Elneny of CBs.
Anyone else look at Moller in this photo and think of Nicolas Bendtner?
So, Arsenal’s U23 team are currently Moller light?
Here’s wishing you all the best, Son.
