Arsenal have confirmed that Harry Clarke has signed an 18-month loan deal with SPL side Hibernian.
The 20-year-old defender heads to Easter Road following a successful first half of the season with Ross County.
Clarke, who spent last year with Oldham, had been due to spend the season at Victoria Park but was recalled earlier this week so that the new move could be facilitated.
Presumably, the decision has been made with the player’s development in mind. The SPL splits in two at the season’s halfway point so playing for Hibs, who are currently fifth in the table, ensures he’ll be playing against higher-level opponents through until the summer.
Just in case things don’t pan out as wanted, Arsenal have inserted optional break clauses in the summer and in January 2023.
Best of luck, Harry.
This changes everything.
Are we preparing him to be sold or preparing him to understudy tomi ? Altho i know he plays cb but he can also play right bk just like versatile ben who can play same position ,rb n even midfield
I wonder has he extended his contract?
It’s good that they decide on loans based on individual players requirements.
Whether that maybe stability, living situation, team environment or other things like age of player and tendency to recover vs match rest periods
I think 18months would suggest they believe he will improve and want to keep him contracted. That gives huge confidence to someone coming into the critical 22-23 age
If Hibs have the player for 18 months, they are much more likely to play him and integrate him into the squad. Playing in the SPL didn’t do Kieren any harm. Good Luck to the Lad.
Didn’t hurt VanDijk either… or Arteta for that matter! There are some good players in the SPL
SPL splits at the halfway point? No it doesn’t. Every club plays 33 games before the split happens then they all play just 5 games after.
All in all though… he’s better off at Hibs than he is Ross County
