Mikel Arteta has revealed that Takehiro Tomiyasu has picked up a new calf injury, this time in his left leg.
The Japan international has spent the last couple of months trying to recover from a similar problem in his right leg and had only just resumed full first team training.
Given Arteta reported a clean bill of health in his mid-week press conference, we can only assume the 23-year-old suffered the issue yesterday which subsequently forced him to miss the 2-1 win over Wolves.
“It’s the other calf,” said the Spaniard when pressed on the specifics of his right-back’s injury. “He came back, he was training and he felt the other calf.
“It is an issue because he’s a professional that is giving absolutely everything to help us and in the last few months he’s not been fit.”
In Tomiyasu’s absence, Cedric has been doing a solid job filling in at right-back, but it’s definitely worry if this latest issue proves as troublesome as the last. Here’s hoping he makes a swift recovery.
Good luck to him. He was immense early in the season, look forward to him coming back.
Fortunately, Arsenal don’t have much of a history of players out for long periods of time with muscular injuries.
Haha I vaguely remembered a particularly unlucky man missing the whole season to a calf injury, had to look it up:

Feels like it’s a game of two calves for Tommi.
Mate that was superb. Well played
I’m torn on this… a bit like Tommy’s calves
Credit to the much maligned Cedric! Has put in probably the best shift of his Arsenal career.. probably also his longest run in the team too…. he’s solid back up without being spectacular..we can focus on other positions……
He’s injury prone just like Tierney. Check his days at bologna, it was the same issue over and over again. We need a solid back up for tomi
His name is Jet. I think we can buy him from Forrest. Cedric is moving on in the summer…
From gladiators? Getting on a bit.
Bloody amazing calves though……
My bad. No disrespect intended. His name is Diop Tehuti Djed-Hotep Spence. He would be superb backup to Toni.
Heh, ffs, Tomi of course
looking forward to Tomicafu coming back!
Haven’t we heard this before????? One calf….. then the other?
Doesn’t bode well :-/
He’s the TJEL (Tallest japanese ever lived)
Gotta admit Cedric has definitely come to the party. My question is for how long can he keep this good form for. I’d still take back Tomi in the starting 11 in a heart beat, the guy is so good in the air. Hopefully in the summer we pick up a solid alternative, just like Tavares for Tierney.
