Dreamy Gallic God identifies pint-sized version of himself

Robert Pires *swoon* reckons Montpellier’s mini winger Remy Cabella may well have worked his way onto Arsene Wenger’s shopping list following his impressive display against the Gunners in the Champions League earlier this season.

Speaking to Ligue1.com the former ‘Invincible’ and Arsenal’s original Handsome French Bloke, made clear he’s taken great pleasure watching Cabella in the last two seasons and thinks the 22-year-old’s swashbuckling performance against the Gunners (in which he seemed to have about 15 shots) is proof he can handle the big time.

“I’m enjoying the performances of Rémy Cabella at Montpellier this season,” reflected Pires.

“He’s carried on from where he left off last season. I thought he was very good against Arsenal on his Champions League debut. That shows he has character and can go a long way, that he doesn’t let the pressure of big games get to him.”

Having been one of the first to back Cazorla to succeed at the Emirates Pires is certainly no slouch when it comes to identifying players with the pedigree to follow in his own vaunted footsteps.

“I think Arsène Wenger will have noticed his performance in that Champions League game,” he continued.

“Wenger likes small technical players like him, players like Santi Cazorla who he recently signed from Málaga. I think Wenger may have Cabella’s name in the back of his mind, and who knows, maybe he will end up at Arsenal.”

Cabella, who stands like our new Spaniard at 5ft 6”, is likely to feature for Montpellier at the Emirates next month so he’s another chance to consolidate his credentials in front of Arsene and the discerning Emirates crowd.

As Bobby hinted, if there’s one thing we all know about the boss it’s that he can’t resist the temptations of a technically gifted Will-o’ the Wisp-esque winger/midfielder. Who knows, if Montpellier and Cabella get lucky an insultingly low offer could be winging it’s way to them sooner rather than later…

Exactly what we need another young, unproven small player. Mind you I’m not saying that he isn’t a good player nor am I negating the fact that Santi has been a revelation. However, personally I’d prefer it if Wenger went into the market and picked up someone like Fellaini; a proven EPL beast! someone who can force the issue in games like the Norwich one. Wishful thinking IMO unfortunately.

In other news 3-1 my prediction for tonight. UP THE ARSE!!

Lapidarij

For Fellaini there is oil money waiting and he is not better then our midfilders.
Pires knows!

Oh please do fucking shut up!, we lost!

OzGooner

We lost? Really? Thanks for clearing that up fuck wit. The post was made before the game and the manner in which we lost further reiterates the need for a midfielder with some fucking drive and passion. Positivity needed lads! Get behind your team they’ll rediscover their mojo (hopefully in time for the QPR game) COYG

I have to be honest and say that, what I remember about him from when we played Montpellier was not his great ability, but constant diving.

Bacary's right leg

that is exactly what I was thinking. He did dive a lot. Which is why in the end he never got the penalty when Diaby blocked him off.

OliGJ

Just like Pires, then… I kid 😛

Denmark

Pires down….henry converts resultant penalty. Hey, sometimes a man gotta do what a man’s gotta do!.
Legend still!

TomJ

Pires didnt dive as much as was made out. It was just that one against Portsmouth when the top top cuntface was manager and kept on about it until the end of the season

davi

He did dive a lot (as did Belhanda – another whos’ been linked), but you could see the talent, and he did hit the bar with a brilliant attempt.

Montpellier is my second team, and while I don’t follow them as regularly as The Arsenal, I follow them enough to feel that moving for Cabella isn’t the best idea. If we’re going to raid them for a creative midfielder, it should be Belhanda or bust. That said, I don’t think we should get Belhanda either; he’s good, but he’d take valuable time away from Wilshere, Ramsey, and Oxlade-Chamberlain. I don’t like the “signing [player x] will kill the development of [player y]” argument when applied to the notion of bringing in a fully developed star player, but the argument… Read more »

Poundland.

Bill Ellison

I thought Poundland was where we shopped already. They are probably looking for somewhere cheaper.

TomJ

How can anyone have a second team. You must feel guilty and dirty after watching them…..I kid

Jean-Christian

ha, only because I lived there. My full love and support is for Arsenal.

Ty

If I’m honest, I wanted Cabella to get kicked in the chest because he was such a diving little fucker. He did show some skill, but whenever Arteta was within 5 feet if him, he flopped like a grenade went off.

rockofgilberto

I saw him in the Trophee des Champions this summer when Montpellier played Lyon, and he was easily the man of the match. He was certainly effective against us in France, but he has a tendency to go to ground with mild contact or a strong breeze. But Le Bob flopped a few times in his career, so if he vouches for him, I’m all for it.

GlennF

Divey McDiverson. Dont want him.

Arxavin

Yes yes please get him! I was extremely impressed by him in the match against Montpellier.
He dived, but i guess we need someone to rival the likes of Suarez, Rooney and Young…and plenty others

Ed

Or not!

Honest opinion.. Whether people like it or not.. If Wenger wants another winger.. How about going for Ben Arfa..? II feel he has so much potential and with le prof schooling the young frenchman, he can only get better..

Mooro

Here’s the thing I love about Bobby (besides all the obvious). He was taken off in the biggest game in his club career because of Lehmann’s rush of blood. He accepted it (and maybe it should’ve been Fabregas that came off, but that’s another debate), he’s open about the fact he wasn’t happy and he gives AW earache about it. Constantly. But he loves The Arsenal. Always looking out for us and thinking about us, always mentioning us. One of the most emotional things I saw at Highbury was the whole team doing the ‘we are not worthy’ bit when… Read more »

Never forget seeing him play live the first time. He looked like a squirt on the TV, and then the stature of the man when you see him for real. Arsenal legend

Arsene Wenger

Overall I believe Cabella was good against us. He’s a technically good, so he is well suited to the way we play. But he has a contract with Montpellier and I respect that. You can see now the French league producing some good players. We have enough midfielders in the squad. But if talks with Theo don’t materialize then yes we might be looking for a top top player.

Goonerism

I would love Arsenal to sign Klaas Jan Huntelaar. He’s scored 34 goals in 42 games and he could be keeping Robin van Pussy out of the dutch squad.

quartzene quenger

Coq in for Giroud tonight?

Ivor Biggun

I’d sooner have Pires back
