Wilshere: It’s a new team and a new me

As you might expect Jack Wilshere is a happy chap this morning.

Handed his first Premier League start since May 2011 the midfielder produced an accomplished and energetic performance against QPR before being subbed in the 67th minute to a standing ovation from the Emirates crowd.

Speaking to the BBC after the game the England international revealed the highs and lows he has experienced during his time on the sidelines and how his family have kept him in good spirits.

“Words cannot describe it. I was just running around smiling.

“It’s been tough. I’m lucky I’ve got my family and my son who helped me through it.

“Some days you don’t want to be at the training ground when the boys are going out and you’re in the treatment room.

“But my son was great – whenever I saw him it made me smile.”

Having watched all manner of teammates leave since his last game, Wilshere also made clear he is excited at the prospect of being part of Arsene  Wenger’s new look squad.

“Last time I played it was with [Cesc] Fabregas and [Samir] Nasri – now it’s with Arteta and [Santi] Cazorla. It’s like a new team and it’s a new me.”

Having initially been penciled in for a return against Reading in this week’s COC clash, Arsene Wenger also made clear that he would now definitely not be including Wilshere in his squad for the trip to the Madjeski.

“After a game like that, I will certainly not play him on Tuesday,” confirmed the boss.

“Jack still misses a bit of the pace of the game, the rhythm of the game, but overall what he did was class.

“We have to see how he responds. After such a long time out, it goes a bit up and down.”

Fingers crossed he feels no ill-effects from yesterday’s run out and is fit enough to give the Dutch skunk a piece of his mind at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Great lad. Very glad he’s back.

maddo

I know its a jack love-in but Bacary Sagna was marvelous yesterday. Pure class.

Arteta's Hair Gel

i can’t for the life of me understand who could give that a thumbs down…what a twat..

Seb

Welcome back, jack, now we have our first choice midfield, wenger needs to start Walcott over Ramsey in attack

OzGooner

Reckon Chambo is a better option than Theo to start.Theo doesn’t deserve to start till he signs plus he’s very useful coming off the bench. Also with AOX you can expect a 100% every game whereas with Theo there’s a 50% chance he just won’t show up

Lid

50% chance he won’t show up? Then it is better then Ramsey who is just all over the pitch… lost.

ETID

Cmon lets be fair ramsey is no wide forward. i say its time to give theo the next 3 matches in 3 different competitions to prove.himself as a striker. see if he can outscore giroud podolski and gervinho over the last 3 games. if he does then tell him we are convinced and ask him one last time to sign the 75k contract. we need to abandon the idea of wingers we havent got any capable of getting to the line and putting in a decent cross. switch to 442 with a diamond midfield or a 4132. rotate the 4… Read more »

SR

@ETID, a bit too much Football Manager maybe?

Rad Carrot

That’s great to hear, you’re- wait. Did you say ‘son’?

Holy shit.

Wale

A smile a day from his son was all the motivation he needed.

So we should probably include his son on the pay bracket. Quick with it Gazidis!

neutral

yup, how old is wilshere? and already has a child. well, at least he can afford it

goontang

That bloody sterling twat just had a kid and he’s the same age as serge gnarby…

Dreamiest

In fact he has 4 kids. Weird. In this pace, he’ll have 4 kids every three years.

Gervinho's headband

Jack seemed really really unhappy with RVP. If they meet next week we will be seeing RVP spend another year on the sidelines.

Nialli

Welcome back Jack!!

But I think Arsene needs to re-jig the starting line up because we are just not clicking like we should. Most of the squad are close to fitness so if you assume everyone is fit i think we should play:

Mannone
Sagna Mertesacker Koscielny Vermaelen
Arteta Diaby
Chamberlain Wilshere Cazorla
Podolski

With Walcott and Giroud coming off the bench. Maybe even Arshavin, he was the only player against Norwich who could provide decent service in the final third which lead to the goal.

argonaut

I’d have Gibbs instead of Vermaelen at left back.

MAllen

Jack looks to have matured nicely during his time on the sidelines. What a great selection nightmare for Wenger. If we had a fully fit squad, what would be the best midfield combination? Diaby, Arteta, Cazorla? Or Wilshire, Arteta, Cazorla?

OzGooner

Szczesny
Sagna-Mert-Kos-Gibbo
Diaby-Arteta
Cazorla-Wilshire-Poldi
Giroud

^^ that’s our best starting 11 IMO.

Wale

Who???

Gunripper

I personaly dont understand the animosity towards vermaelen. One thing is for sure he’s better in the air than koscienly. Has heart and determination to win almost every aerial ball. He’s a better ball distributor than kos who i’ve seen on many occasion give the ball away with his “long balls”. Plus he’s captain!. Wenger doesn’t make this decision that easy. He knows!

neutral

I actually think Kos had better stats for headed clearances than any other CD last season, surprising

JB

@Gunripper maybe Wenger should tell Kos to pass the ball with his feet, maybe then he’d not give the ball away?

I’ll get my coat..

Rossi88

Walcott doesn’t want to play wing but up front as a striker. Wenger doesn’t want to play him if he doesn’t commit to a new contract, so its a sticky situation. but Ramsey should not be playing wing. To be totally honest Ramsey for me is just not cutting it. Every week he doesnt impress me. No goals. Cant dictate game or influence it, compared to say Diaby and his surging runs, or Rosicky’s ability to twist and turn opposing midfielders. Wilshere, Cazorla and Arteta should by all rights start every time ahead of him. So were left with 6th… Read more »

maddo

Fair enough comment but Ramsay is only 21 years old. Not every player finds his “waterloo” at an early age. There is a lot to come from him playing in the middle.

nishanth

Delighted that Jack is back. The one thing i am worried is that his playing style and his quick feet means that the opposition will kick the shit out of him with the referee doing nothing about it. One good thing is that he is english and might not receive the same treatment from referees certain others players will.

Dial Square

This whole bloody nightmare situation is purely down to Arsene being a stubborn twat, (thumb me down if you want), because Walcott hasn’t signed Arsene won’t play him from the start – and it’s the team that is bloody suffering cause he’s playing Ramsey instead, he should stop being petty and play him from the start, the club is still paying him £50,000 a week for fuck sake !!! I can see it, everyone can bloody see it, but Arsene has to do it his way, well i’ve got news for him, it’s not fucking working, so get Theo in… Read more »

gunnerjoe

I agree about Walcott but he was coming back from an injury and with he’s history maybe it was better to work him in slowly. On another subject boy are we missing Gibbs.

Pete

Not the first time Wenger has shown a stubborn streak, sticking by players when all the evidence points to resting them, moving them on, changing tactics, etc.
The man is a mule.
Eight years without a trophy? Happy to settle for 4th place?
That’s the best we can hope for Arsenal?
You must be fcuking kidding

Nigerian

Jack has a son???? Damn, I’m old! 😀

Anyways, it was really good to see Jack and Bac slotting in as though they were never away and combining well with the rest of the team. It was some much-needed good news.

gunnerjoe

I watched the match and I tought Wilshires ankle got a lot rough treatment with no protection from ref. You would think with Jack being the future of England he would get some fucking protection or he’s never going to play England because he will always injured or god forbid have he’s career wrecked.

Aaron

Would just like to say I was in no way shape or form being racist yesterday. Woke up this morning and read the comments in the other blog post, genuinely didn’t know who the QPR player was, nor his number. Only observation was him being black, not white. Seemed like the obvious thing to say! Anyway…

…gotta love this young, short, white guy. So glad he’s back!

Dog Eat Arse

Welcome back Jack.

Gunripper

Am I the only one who’ll be watching the united game with hope of a boot-to-face to rvshit???? By say Cashley then he ofcourse gets sent off and vanshit reports to hospital immediately for a horse placenta transplant. Yes?

Gooner in Manchester

A great lad. A glad tear.

Aamir

I want us to beat Manure, RVP to have a shit game. And then get a 6 month injury in the 92nd minute.

A Yank

I am a small, petty man, so I want the same.

But the way he is playing for the Puppy Kickers makes me want to punch Gazidis in the junk.

Gunripper

Lol i’d very much like to punch Gazidis right in the face. His face looks like the type to attract my fist. And fuck the dutch skunk btw.

I seriously don’t understand the hostility towards Ramsey. He’s a kid and has shown at times that he can be a real asset. Against City, he was running past supposedly some of the best midfielders in the world. I admit he’s probably not up to being a regular starter, but we have to consider the tangible impact of attitude on the team when in the past we’ve been criticized for lack of cohesion and, dare I say it, “mental strength.” Theo’s got a bad case of the Bendtners and shouldn’t be starting.

TomJ

Ramsay is going to be one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. He’s 21, has the talent, faultless work rate, he tries his heart out for Arsenal and is willing to play anywhere in the middle, drop deep or on the wing. He’s still learning his job. Give him a chance.

Lid

This post is about Jack but I can see that Ramsey is still great-without-reason among young arsenal fans. Not for long. Even now I’m wondering how long Ramsey love will last? Forever? Only if we totally fall to the level of lets say Newcastle, cos otherwise he won’t have his place at us anymore.

Pete

Are you serious?!?
Ramsey loses the ball so often it’s laughable. He looks slow and predictable. He has one good game every three, maybe.
At best a squad player.
At least Gervinho is injured, and thank the lord for that.

TomJ

and are we to take the opinion of somebody that is happy a gooner is injured seriously

prhyu

thanking the lord that our only other striking option is injured=real smart move.

Lapidarij

I hope he is not watching chelsea vs united where I hear rvp scored 2 in the first 10 min. We should extend Wilsheres contract asap.

Newhampshiregunner

Cheers to john terry hopefully breaking rvp’s leg and in the aftermath terry’s brain is detatched from his spine.

shut up n take my money!

does anyone else find it weird that the whole arsenal team wore full sleeves yesterday?.o_O..o_O

TomJ

no

goontang

Generally cold weather = warm clothes…. thats my take on weather though… could be wrong… barely have any long sleeve shirts at home cos i live in Aus… except my new lukas podolski long sleeve away shirt.. cos arsenal.com didnt have any shorts….. and i wanted it for the first away game…

Johnnycakes

I taught clattenberg was only a cunt reffing us,funny tough.

Gunripper

Once again the ref comes to uniteds rescue. Robin van skunk surely deserves that team of cheats. This things never go unpunished,we’ll most like humiliate them next weekend………

Exiledgooner

All teams get the odd lucky decision (eg Micky yesterday), but all the occasions that Manchester United have had and still get these breaks makes me seriously, seriously wonder if there’s something slightly dodgy going on behind the scenes…

bob

Yep, mancs get 2 red cards and a dodgy goal to hand them the victory, juuuust as it looked like they might slip off the pace…… If it happened in Italy, its amazing no-one seems to check here, because with this sort of frequency something certainly isn’t right….

TomJ

had a quick look through the list of premier league refs and where they are from. Did you know 75% of the PL refs are from the north. Now, if we come to the likely conclusion that they liked football as kids, and supported local clubs from the north, we now know why we cant get a penalty. Dean. Dowd, Atkinson, Webb..Arsenal haters and cheats

TomJ

and Cunts too

Eric Irish gunner

Van cunt throwing the tea cloth into the manc scum the ball licking cunt, I’ll get fucking sick if that prick scores next week, I hope vermaelan has one of he’s better games

Niko

I’m alittle bit concerned with the amount of passes we take to build up to the final third. We are simply taking too much time to get a clear goal scoring chance. Also if we make quick passes we could turn out to be more creative without putting tjay much effort. It will just come with the passes we make. Second, we have always had a quick strike force over the years. Talk about berg-henry, ade-walcott. Rvp….walcott and this has really helped us get goals. Right now our strike force is much slower and as a result nothing comes of… Read more »

prhyu

cleverley and scholes and carrick arent that fast either.

Frog

Fucking hell. I thought we got the shaft from the refs. how can they just give united these games? I’m mean, fuck Chelsea and all that. I know they have cashley and terry, but that was ridiculous. It’s one thing to get a few “calls” at old toilet, but fuck man, that was in London and that cunt clattenburg GAVE united three points.

goontang

Its nothing new though mate, look at last years game against QPR. Ashley young is offside by metres, Derry tackles him even though he’s offside and gets a red card and the 3 match ban is upheld.

A. Fucking. Joke.

Frog

I guess I just wish they weren’t so obvious about it. It really is pathetic.

Wengersky

There are far too many fans who trust in Wenger despite his stingy record and attitude,I don’t know if he is a magician or something,we are certainly a less ambitious team, but you can’t say the same about players, all players want to win something and,but the attitude of our manager really shodows the aspiration of players. When we had Cashri and Fabregas and were pushing for title and then came that dreaded BIrmingham game that we ‘ve still not recovered from, simply cos our manager has not recovered form it,we repeat the same mistakes year after year, every season we’ve good games against better… Read more »

Ben

You’re entitled to your opinion on Arsene of course, but there are a few statements in there that have me baffled. “Far too many fans who trust in Wenger”? I am unsure what you mean by this. Arsene has indisputably put himself alongside some of the greatest managers of all time. He revolutionised the English game, and is certainly one of the more intelligent managers in the Premier League, with good footballing philosophy and pedigree. What is not to trust in that? Yes, it has been several years since a trophy, and of course he is not infallible, he does… Read more »

pete

I agree with you about Wenger. I backed him for years but now think he is a liability. There’s something missing in his managerial skills. It could be authority, the ability to command respect from players, to inspire them at critical moments in the season, even giving the players a good blocking every so often when the situation demands it. Another thing is that seven years of relative failure is enough for any man. Who else among Arsenal fans except for AW and the board think that finishing fourth in the league and qualifying for CL is a victory? It’s… Read more »

Jenkinson deserves a mention. He deputised really well. Big player already!!

Johnire

Just seen his post match interview and wow. Jack has matured so much over the year he has been out and you can tell he’s learned alot! I don’t think he will ever take playing for Arsenal for granted.. He always gave it his all but now I think he will give even more because he knows how lucky he is to be playing for a club who everyday gets behind him no matter what even through over a year of injury. He loves arsenal and he loves football I just wish every player who put on an arsenal shirt… Read more »
